About DiskStation

DiskStation Manager is a web-based operating system designed for Synology network attached storage (NAS) appliances, which helps users manage digital assets across multiple locations. Features include full-text search, metadata management, data backup and virtualization.

The system enables administrators to share files with team members across multiple platforms such as Windows, Linux or macOS via links and create role-based permissions and passwords to ensure secured access to files. Employees can synchronize file updates in real-time between multiple servers, computer systems and public clouds. It also allows businesses to create data recovery strategies for protection against hardware failure, natural disasters and accidental removal of data.

DiskStation Manager offers integration with Let's Encrypt, helping administrators manage and apply for SSL certificates. It comes with mobile applications for iOS and Android. Support for the system is provided via phone, live chat and documentation.

    Pros:
Synology offers with their very very complete base functionality a complete server replacement for home and small business.
    Cons:
For big scale companies this isn't the right choice. But the main reason it isnt is the lack of acceptance by IT :)

    Pros:
I use Synology for hosting files at home. It is relatively easy to set up and get going, even for someone completely new at using it. The software comes with numerous utilities for managing files, processes, resources, and user permissions. There are also many more apps out there that you can install. Hosting my videos and pictures has never been easier, and with my redundant harddrives, my data is safe in case a drive is lost. The interface is very clean, and the functions are easy to use and simple to understand.
    Cons:
This is not a problem with the software itself but a limitation with the hardware. I have a bare model with a weak cpu, and so every now and then I experience latency issues, or slow ramp up times.
