Visual Success

I've been excited to work in the software and to grow and learn. I keep thinking about the many ways I could see this being beneficial to my job, my company and industry.

Pros:

The pros include the ability to learn from the many examples, the YouTube support, and the support team. The software is always surprising me with the levels of detail and I see more potential for how it can be used to help my company and clients.

Cons:

There are a lot of decisions to make and options to click, but in the end, it is art but the time to build and render is amazingly fast compared to tools of the past. I'll never look back on past attempts with other software, Beyond Typicals is here to stay.

First Impressions Beyond Typicals

It's been really good. Beyond Typicals hits the sweet spot between 2d illustration software and 3d visualization software. You can't do everything, but that's a strength because it keeps the software easy to use and learn.

Really easy to use, nice library of 3d objects. The photo compositing works well.

Cons:

I'd like more font choices for the labels. It would be nice if I could have the section hold at the centerline as lanes etc. are added. If I'm not adding equally to both sides I need to keep adjusting the alignment offset - for example to hold an existing curb. It's pricy, if you buy it , use it a lot.

Overall, I really like the software but, it's very glitchy at times and even a restart doesn't work.

It provides good visualization for public engagement. It's pretty straight forward.

Cons:

It gets a little glitchy at times. For example, I was just using it today and it would not let me physically select the sections so I had to use arrows to select the typical section. Additionally, the label text do not update immediately and sometimes exits out the left popup window with all the formating.

Beyond Typicals has been a very useful tool for our company and a great addition to our deliverables.

Cons:

Unfortunately the software does use a lot of my computer life/battery, even though I use a powerful machine. With the latest version I've been experience some crashes while performing some commands. That's the only down side.

Quick visualisations for presentations

I am still learning but i can quickly make renders for our clients eventhough I have not yet fully grasped beyond typicals possibilities/functionnalities.

Pros:

Produce high quality renders in a short amount of time. Beyond typical helps to sell ideas of design to our clients because it really helps them to understand the final design.

Cons:

Labeling is somewhat not as intuitive as it could be. A language selection would be awesome (french). It would be great if the cut and fill would change name according to your unit choice (metric vs imperial) since the name of the cut represents a value in feets.

Reasons for choosing Beyond Typicals

In fact I use Beyond typicals for helping clients decide between design options. I use infraworks for final project rendering because it is longer to do compared to beyond typicals

Beyond Typicals is an efficient means to create beautiful, informative, detailed visuals

We have used beyond typicals in several open house settings during planning or preliminary design phases of roadway transportation projects where we are comparing several cross sections. It's great that we can compare impacts, different components all from the same realistic view.

3D Views, the vast library of components and items. The ease to place items. We appreciate all ongoing developments that have improved the product month-to-month. The development calendar looks great to see what all is intended for the future.

Cons:

I've been asked a couple times if we could show an intersection or roundabout in Beyond Typicals. My response is no, and it makes sense because that wouldn't really be a "typical section", more a full visual. But thought I'd provide that feedback in case there is that possibility to incorporate

I like the speed at which I can create a high-quality visualization for a proposed roadway section.

Cons:

I sometimes wish that I could dock tool bars to the bottom or top of the screen so that they don't disappear if I accidentally click off of them.

The ease of creating a typical section in a few minutes is amazing, and being able to tap into [sensitive content hidden] knowledge and excellent customer service has been great!

Cons:

I find that using the software really slows down my computer, even after getting a new, higher powered computer with the proper specs. There are also a few things that are difficult (or impossible) to do with Beyond Typicals that would be really helpful - such as drawing a bridge over a roadway, or generating an interseciton.
