About Blue Iris

Blue Iris is a video security and webcam solution that helps businesses automate security operations through live cameras and remote access functionality. It enables organizations to view action lists, capture screenshots and store audio and video recordings in a centralized repository.

Business owners can use the application to receive security alerts via email, text messages or phone calls in real-time. The platform allows administrators to update the current date or time of live recordings, change logos and provide role-based access to specific users. Additionally, stakeholders can utilize mobile applications to view live camera feeds using Android and iOS devices.

Blue Iris comes with an API, which facilitates integration with various third-party applications such as AMCap, Etrovision, Eyeview and more. The application is available on a perpetual license basis and support is extended via phone, email, documentation and other online measures.

Powerful and flexible but difficult to configure

    3

The software is extremely powerful and configurable, which I generally like. I have gotten six cameras working pretty well. However, if you need reliable object detection and alerts, it takes a lot of work to get it set up right, and this is where things fall down. Not because the software can't do it but because the documentation is not sufficiently clear and detailed. Despite paying for a full license - which is supposed to include priority support - it takes days to get a response to an email and it's rarely complete. And if you have a follow up question it takes a few more days. Given the lack of clarity in responses it can be weeks to get a problem fixed - if at all. Basically you're dependent on various user forums. I would not bother paying extra for premium support. If you like tinkering and playing it's a good and inexpensive choice. If you want reliable and seamless, look for something else.

    Pros:
Very powerful software with a lot of configuration options
    Cons:
The software is not well-documented and the tutorial videos are not much better. There's a lot of information but it's confusing. THis is not plug and play software. It takes a lot of work to get it working well.
