Cloudinary is cloud-based digital asset management (DAM) solution that allows businesses to manage the entire lifecycle of digital assets. Users can manipulate, organize, upload and track digital assets across multiple channels with image and video management. Cloudinary offers customizable APIs and integrations with popular third-party software for a customizable content management experience.

With a centralized hub, Cloudinary enables businesses to eliminate the content silos and configure their content management system from one single source of truth. Role-based access privileges and an embedded feedback tool allows users to streamline collaboration and securely manage assets that are only assigned to the team or to themselves. Utilizing machine learning and AI, Cloudinary is able to automate the simple tasks from metadata tagging to dynamic asset manipulation.

Great Cloud Storage Provider

I primarily use Cloudinary for cloud storage for web applications I build and deploy on Heroku. Since initially using it, I’ve begun storing many types of files within it.

Pros:

Cloudinary’s powerful API allows any developer to easily implement file storage for any kind of internet-connected app quickly. It’s API takes it a step further and allows for transformations when retrieving photo type files.

Cons:

The onboarding process could be improved. At first, it wasn’t easy to find the information needed to connect to the API. Once you know where to find it, things are much easier.

Reasons for switching to Cloudinary

Pricing tiers-some projects don’t use much space and doesn’t make sense to pay for it.

Cloudinary or No?

While using the Free version, I was able to see plenty of options that I could utilize for our companies advertising. The only concern would be training others how to use it for our marketing.

I wasn't able to figure out how to upload my own media and photos, as well as my logo.

Pros:

Very easy and quick to implement. Great technical solutions which covers all kind of image delivery aspects. Simple but effective user interface. A lot of online resources and best practice cases.

Cons:

I am using their service with two different projects for a couple of years now. To be fair I have to fully differentiate between the use cases and the expectations one might have as a user. - We have implemented Cloudinary in an application with millions of images and I must say the value for money is not great compared to some of their competitors, especially if you do not use all their features. Though that is something one knows in advance and can very well factor in. But what is not acceptable to us is the fact that e-mails go unanswered for a couple of days and the support on the business side is very weak. Be prepared paying thousands of dollars without any support. - For one project we are still on the free plan and their is actually nothing to complain about as it technically works perfect and it is superbe value for money. To my point Cloudinary is great for very small and small projects but if your intention is to integrate Cloudinary in a business solution which might need support once a year think again.

I like that I could use this in my cloud based environment and not have any issues. The software is easy to implement and plenty of assistance.

I don’t really have many cons, it’s a great software for financial management.

Loaded features, but complicated and unorganized documentation

Been using it in production for about 1-2 years now, but have since moved on to another image service for ease of use (Imagekit.io).

Pros:

Easily able to transform images and generate various versions of it for content creation. A decent form is available for support questions, but turnaround time can be long.

Cons:

Cloudinary's documentation is loaded with content, but not well organized and can be difficult to find what you are looking for. It's similar to the disorganization like AWS documentation. The search tool is not easy to use and does not find the relevant information you are searching for. There is no discord server available where one could get instant feedback or help with issues. Not easy to use with modern SSR platforms like Nuxt/NextJS.

Reasons for choosing Cloudinary

I ended up going with Imagekit.io because the imagekit docs were much cleaner and better to use, as well as the user interface. The product features and performance are about the same with Imagekit.io and cheaper, too!

Great cloud storage for a great price

Excellent. We've had great uptime and the costs are very reasonable. The system is useful to us to store large amounts of images that are uploaded and saved to Cloudinary via API, which is a HUGE benefit for the software service that employs me. If I could give 10 stars I would

Cloudinary is really easy to use to manage large amounts of images, from PDFs to photos to video, and it's also simple to manage folders of these images so that it feels as simple as using folders on your PC. Uploading, resizing, and adjusting the sizes of images is also straightforward.

Cons:

The steps to follow for configuring a new installation can be a little confusing, and some newer navigation options seem more opaque than the Cloudinary of a few years ago. However, this is often a reflection of a growing company's increasing software offerings.

It is a powerful tool for media management

All in all, though, Cloudinary’s a great solution for anyone managing lots of media assets; it’s saved me a ton of time on manual edits, but I would suggest budgeting carefully as your usage scales.

I love how easy Cloudinary makes it to upload and display images and videos on a website with a few API calls — the optimization features alone blew my website’s load times in half, with lightning-fast delivery over a CDN.

Cons:

But it starts getting pricey as you scale beyond the free tier, and I’ve found the documentation to be a little daunting trying to work out advanced transforms myself.

It's most remarkable features is its ability to help you keep collaborations, edits, and adjustments in mind.

My favorite thing is Image and Video Optimization. For example, I used it to resize and compress images for my site that resulted in a 30% improvement in page load times. The AI-assisted features (automatic cropping, background removal, etc.) are very helpful.

Cons:

Pricing may catch up businesses with big media libraries, and there is a steep learning curve for advanced features such as transformations and API integrations.

Easy to register my account and start using it as my secondary cloud repository to store promotion campaign, legal document and least agreement.

Cons:

Small storage limit for basic account. I need to upgrade the storage size as my needs grow and it is not cheap.
