Pros:

Can't talk this up enough, its the complete solution for anyone in the Building or Construction Industry. The benefits of having one Software Application to do literally ALL the tasks needed to run our company can not be over stated.

Cons:

Like any all-encompassing software it takes some effort to get your head around all the many and varied functionalities within the package, but with time, patience and persistence it has become our hub for everything within the business.

Linked Building Beams Review

Now that we have learned the program we find Beams to be a real asset to our business and we are constantly discovering clever functions which are really useful, time saving and reduce risk of duplication.

Pros:

Having all the functions in one software is great & Beams estimating is very powerful allowing for fast, efficient and consistent take off's

Cons:

I didn't find the program easy to learn and it is not always intuitive. The CRM is not up to speed with a lot of other CRM programs out there and has limited search and reporting functions. In general allowing better flexibility of content & presentation for reports in Beams would be a real improvement.

Reasons for switching to BEAMS

The previous software was great for manual estimating, purchase orders and accounting but was clunky in some areas and needed external software to communicate with site.

Beams potential

Pros:

100% Australian owned and operated. The potential to fully integrate home building process for both project homes & custom home builders. The potential to be improved on modern software platforms. The potential for Beams administration to have home building templates for build process & production estimation in NSW. The potential for the set up of the basic Categories/Coast Centres for builders in NSW The potential to integrate with supply chain providers. E.g. Bunnings, Hume doors, Gainsborough, PGH, etc...

Cons:

Australian created software originating from W.A. it is disjointed from the East Coast of Australia by way of building process, methodologies & glossary of terms. Time difference for technical support. The lack of information aligned to NSW builders. Too complex and areas for errors.

Overall i am happy with the software and it has made administering the jobs easier and more professional. It definitely saves time in estimating jobs.

I like the fact that the software incorporates all aspects of a construction business not just estimating, it takes care of payroll, tax, scheduling, variations, purchase orders the lot. This was one of the reasons for choosing this software, the main reason for purchasing this software was because it is a desktop version not just on the cloud as most other packages are.

Cons:

The least thing i like about this software is the support subscription costs per year are too expensive they are around 14% of the initial purchase price. One thing that beams does not offer and we are looking to other software for is a client communication portal where clients can see the progress of their build and communicate selections variations etc. directly with us.

Pros:

I mainly use the Accounts section and find it easy to use and navigate around. The reports you can generate are great. Completing the BAS using the Taxation Processing has made it easier for our Accountant. The Payroll Processing is simple and easy to use and STP reports generate with ease.

Cons:

Something simple but I find it frustrating I have to minimize every tab to get back to the main menu, it would be nice to be able have that as a tab too.

One of the reasons was so we could incorporate an estimating program with an accounts program.

I don’t like how you can’t amend an invoice once entered as you have to delete all entries to amend the date or amount if entered in error

Beams - a real builders choice!

Pros:

Beams is a easy to use estimating software. We didn't have the accounts add on at first but now since we got it its brilliant. The customer support is always helpful and you don't wait to get through to the right person to help you through any issue you may be having.

Cons:

I think the Beams Mobile is a helpful tool but could be updated and used more in tune with the back office program. It doesn't really work that well for day to day use calling up tasks onsite. I think they should look for it to be more cloud based and have bank feeds to the accounts software to reconcile accounts.

Beams Change my Business

Solve my problems, Yep. Just pumped out an urgent quote in under an hour, pushed the button and there was a full specification with pictures, quote and I look Proffesional.

Beams will structure your business in the way a Proffesional building business should be

Cons:

I thought I would pick Beams up and just use it, They told me I would need six lessons, well they were right plus a heap of short phone calls. But it has paid off and I am finally getting on top of it. I must comment that it was never to much trouble for Beams support, All the stupid questions constant phone calls they were always fantastic to deal with and it was never a problem.

Reasons for choosing BEAMS

Beams was the only fully integrated system that actually worked. found the others could have strong estimating but accounting was terrible or visa versa. Most were simply glorified spreed sheets. Beams has formulas and it simply asked questions about what you want to include.

Constructor, simply is not user friendly and only works in the office, if your in the field just forget it. very clunky

I have used beams for many years and as a sole trader I could't run my business without it. Gives me a good handle on where I'm at financially at a glance . The management team at Beams are second to none. Any answers to questions are only a phone call away.

Estimating, Accounting and Contract management Its a breeze to enter and complete a quote, especially when the prescriptions are set up well. Accounting and reporting is great. Date entry is simple and the reporting is a touch of a button. Importing bank statements and bank reconciliation is brilliant. Makes BAS reporting very easy. Producing progress claims and variation orders and purchase orders

Cons:

The quote letter A little bit impersonal for my liking and perhaps too much info on the letter. I usually write my own.

Pros:

I like that you are always working live, graphic take off second to none, products interchangeable at any point no need for a thousand formulas/recipes/string to change 1 item

Cons:

They are in WA so 2 hour time delay to east coast for customer support, but apart from that it's great
