The 'Airbnb' of tendering

I have produced a small number of pre-tender cost plans for customers to compare against prices.

Pros:

For me the ability to access a reliable indicator of project cost early in the design process without spending thousands on a QS adds a huge benefit to myself and my clients who look to architects for reassurance that their project will remain in budget. Producing designs that are too expenive waste everyone's time. If I could convince all the builders I work with to use Buildpartner as it is intended the time saved across the board would be phenomenal. Unfortunately, as it stands half of them still use pen and paper to work out their prices, which is probably just a symptom of the scale of work.

Cons:

I would ideally like to link my NBS specification with my Build Partner schedule. To do this manually would be prohibitively time consuming.

Excellent value for money.

Happy with the overall use of BuildPartner. I can price up projects much easier than using excel and having to find costs individually for each item and labour output for each task. Saves a lot of time that would usually be needed to price up projects.

Detailed information prepared on a schedule template ready to use. Ease of finding suitable tasks and labour and material costs within an expected range. The cost of subscription is incredibly cheap for the amount of information available.

Cons:

There is no undo button if you make a mistake.

I don't think there are enough options for bespoke builds. The costs of materials is too time consuming to change to suit your pricing.

As an architect, BuildPartner has completely changed how I approach early-stage cost advice and tendering. The ability to benchmark costs in real time during design discussions is invaluable, helping me guide clients with clarity and confidence and keeping expectations realistic from the outset. The structured scope templates also make tendering far more transparent, ensuring contractors are pricing on a like-for-like basis. It’s intuitive, genuinely time-saving, and bridges the gap between design intent and cost certainty.

Cons:

Occasionally, the interface can feel a bit rigid when you’re working on more bespoke, non-standard details. It’s clearly optimised for more conventional residential projects. I’d love to see more flexibility for custom elements or a faster way to add unique items without breaking the data structure. That said, the BuildPartner team are responsive and keep improving the platform.

Excellent for providing a comprehensive Scope of Work and accurate price estimate

Very user friendly. The platform provides excellent templates for many different types of projects, a comprehensive scope of work, and accurate price estimates.

Cons:

Currently there is nothing I don’t like; it’s an excellent platform.

Reasons for choosing Buildpartner

The template scope of works’ were excellent and the platform needed very little input from my end, with automatic pricing (which is also adjustable to reflect company/supplier-specific rates if required) available for a vast array of products/materials/labour. Other platforms I looked at needed a lot more input from the user in terms of inputting rates for everything, and the templates were no where near as comprehensive as those of BuildPartner.

I use it regularly and find it works well. It's not so easy to start with but once you get the hang of it and understand what it does and how, it's a very useful tool.

Quite flexible and has a lot of good features, especially in the reports/exports. You can use pre-prepared templates and add your own dimensions if you don't want to go into too much depth, or add and remove items if you want more detail.

Cons:

Takes a little getting used to. Can be a bit long-winded to add some things.

Very detailed cost models within a short timeframe - ideal for understanding the feasibility of early stage design work.

Cons:

It’s difficult to criticise, because we love the platform. One area that has confused me is when two or more extension shell types are included in a cost model, whether this leads to duplication of some preliminaries that in reality would be shared - e.g. project manager / scaffold / deliver excavator. That said, sometimes a client will later ask the implication if one of these shells can be deleted from the model (e.g. roof extension / loft conversion if they can’t afford to do everything), so having a way to unlink the shells is also positive.
