Buildsmart - Review

Great experience, if they fix some bugs like and add some more features (one click voucher should open from report) to save the time.

Pros:

Very good budget control management, Project accounting is so easily monitored, ease in monthly closing, depreciation posting & WIPcalculations, Nice tool for cost allocation if you have manyr departments, activity wise project procurement control etc. uploading a huge journal data through excel sheet template

Cons:

Payroll module is a long hectic and not user friendly, unable to go directly to the voucher from a particular report, you have to type voucher num manually as the buildsmart does not have a feature to take you in one click, If an asset is added into fixed assets then again need to update/edit in master list.

Your valued feedback is very important to us, please see feedback regarding your comments: We would recommend a training session on the payroll in order to increase your ease of use. The process is very simple from the capture of hours against contracts, cost codes & activities, capture any advised payments or deductions, capture leave & sick days, calculate, check, print payslips & create the WPS file with the final process of posting to the GL being an integrated system. Updating the asset master is a control process as the asset master requires so much more detail with all the depreciation options available in the system as well as other asset information. The Voucher numbering was developed purely for India & the Gulf, it complies to the requirement of sequential numbering for filing systems and document retrieval. This was never designed to be a focus of the system & not designed to drill down to a voucher number.

Financial and procurement reports which are readily available. Procurement system enables easy project procurement planning Candy integration with Build smart ensures for cashflow and resource management Ability to access it from anywhere and anytime and easy with which you can work on the system. Approval system promotes accountability in managing projects. Project related invoicing eases cashflow management

Cons:

PDF default on report printing Inability to raise quotations on build smart and linking them to an invoice.

Reasons for switching to RIB BuildSmart

We were looking for a system more suited to Construction Activities, where procurement can be controlled through the approval system and procurement Schedules are updated as the requisition Transend from a requisition to Purchase Order to Goods Received note and finally to a recorded cost on the contract.

RIB Candy and Buildsmart review

I come from a consulting QS back ground, where i used similar softwares, the software was more aimed at QS's, but was easier to manage and use than Candy. Candy is the leader in most construction based companies, and is widely used, but this can be improved. One major factor that could influence the South African market, would be the implementation of CostX, but due to the agreement made 25+ years ago, I do not think CostX will have a foothold in South Africa, with other software's claiming the limelight I am not sure how this influences 'RIB BuildSmart', but would affect RIB overall i would think

Pros:

• Customer support is available to assist, where needed. • Tutorials on the different functionalities, but this is also over complicated and some webinars/training sessions are 'pay-to-learn' (The pay-to-learn may of only been the 'RIB Candy' webinars I have seen)

Cons:

• Lengthy processes for tasks and menial tasks that do not provide value to a client. (Trying to over complicate the wheel) • Difficulty to extract the information you need • QTO!!!! it is a good program, with a lot of functionality, but it is very much under-utilized, the measuring component of the program needs a lot of improvement before I would consider using this in my private life or in a company one day (From a QS perspective).

The pleasure of using RIB Buildsmart

Excellent in all respects, from the marketing and presentations, installation and maintenance of the system, as well as ongoing user backup. In other words, great service from the initial contact and onwards from there, including after sales service

the way it integrates with CCS Candy, as well as the fact that it perfectly suits the requirements of the construction industry, no matter how big or small the company or it's contracts are

Cons:

The cost is relatively high, but that must be weighed against the benefits that the system provides.

Pastel was not suited to the construction environment, as it made no provision for subcontractors

Great software for construction

It’s a great program to understand your contract costing. On the finance side the capturing of information is user friendly.

The costing reports that are available give detailed information about where you are making or losing money on the contracts.

Cons:

Sometimes it logs you out and you don’t know so you carry on working only to realise later none of those items have been captured

It did not do a good job costing contracts and the reports were inadequate

RIB Candy - One of the best software to use for Construction cost tracking

My overall experience has been good. I think it is very compatible with windows, allowas for easy importation and exportation of excel bill of quantities documents. Once measures have been linked to an item it updates automatically as you add or subtract. Allows for comprehensive comparisons of original vs. actual quantities. Payment certificates are easy to create and share. Very good integration with BuildSmart

Pros:

Fairly easy to understand and use, even if you are used to software such as DimensionX. Easy importation/exportation of Excel BOQ.

Cons:

Sometimes while using a tool the curser seems to jump to other areas of the screen not being used. No shortcut key to quickly select the same tool being used.

The link between Buildsmart and Candy which allows for project cost monitoring and offer the opportunity to see when a project is running at a lot is real time.

Cons:

My inability to be able to fully utilised all the functionalities
