About Explorer Eclipse

Eclipse by Explorer is a cloud-based construction accounting and project management solution designed for contractor businesses. It caters to medium to large construction companies belonging to different construction businesses, such as heavy construction, GCs, architects and specialty contractors. The product offers service management, procurement, human resources, materials handling and reporting within a suite.

Eclipse allows users to create custom reports on business data. The system also offers document management system, which allows users to upload documents, tag them using a custom label and attach them to a project.

Eclipse features audit trail, which allows users to track multiple stages of the document during internal and external audits. Eclipse also features service management, which allows project managers to keep track of status, sales and commissions of the field staff. The product offers online, phone and on-site support for maintenance, training, implementation and troubleshooting.

Pros:

Full integrated system that can share real-time information throughout the organization. The reporting and filtering and drill down to what you are looking for is smooth and easy to use for everyone.

Cons:

Even though the support group is knowledgeable and easy to deal with. All requests or errors need to be logged on their portal prior to getting immediate assistance. Sometimes it would be nice to just call someone directly.

Reasons for switching to Explorer Eclipse

We were looking for a full ERP system to intergrade throughout the organization. This provides all users with information much faster.

I would not recommend

There was a big red flag at the beginning when we were setting up and I wanted to speak with other users to see how they chose to do some options. So I could get an idea of what would work for us. They wouldn't give us any or even have some contact us to talk with. Numerous times the autopost goes down and it takes them a week to get back to me to fix things. Charging for training when I believe it is items that aren't. Anything that needs to be coded is something that I don't believe is training. And lack of training and overcharge if you do need it. Most of the time it's back end settings which I don't have access to.

At first it seemed like it would be a great program with lots of options to solve everyone's issues

Cons:

None of the modules speak to each other. If you put your logo in one you still have to do that for each module. Nothing is live and always has to be submitted. I find it very redundant in the enter/tab/use mouse. Nothing is streamlined. If you want to print reports, there are no headers on the paper to let you know what report you printed. Everything needs to be set up and unless you are a computer IT programmer which they expect you to be, they want to charge you training time for what I believe should have been set up in the initial set up phase.

Hi Rhonda. We appreciate your feedback. There is often confusion over what our Onboarding/Training hours can be used for, which includes configuration, setup, and how-do-I training. We have a listing in our help library that describes items that would fall under the category of billable services vs. non-billable services to assist in clarifying those concerns. We also see that you utilize word reports quite often. Eclipse has many new features available from the legacy product (Pivot) you were previously on, including Business Analytics, which allows for greater flexibility, customization, and inquiries that can be easily exported to Excel. A pitfall of this high customization capability is that each word report can have its own custom header, footer, formatting, and font, which can be cumbersome for some. We’re truly sorry to hear about the frustrations you’ve encountered, and our team will reach out to assist you further with this matter.

Effortless Data Handling with Explorer Eclipse

I use Explorer Eclipse for payroll because the reporting features are easy to use, and data is easily exportable. I appreciate the extensive data availability. However, live paystub review and batch deletion of earnings deductions need improvement. The setup was smooth, and I'd recommend it, rating it a 9 out of 10.

I like how reporting is easy to use and how data is easy to export and import with Explorer Eclipse. I appreciate the amount of data you can pull from Explorer Eclipse. The Record of Employment functionality also works especially well.

Cons:

I think the ease of reviewing data entry items on the paystubs could be better. It would be nice to be able to review the paystubs as data is being entered so we can see the changes live. Also, it would be nice to be able to delete all the Standard Earnings and Deductions at one time, rather than one by one.

A good program with room to improve. It could do with some updates and streamlining, but it's a good, basic program.

The layout is straightforward; it's very similar to Excel in its formatting. The customization is also useful.

Cons:

Could be more streamlined. Tickets currently have to be entered one at a time, which means repeatedly entering the same job information, rather than just the information that changes per job.

Payroll with Eclipse

Starting Eclipse was rough. It has a large learning curve with lots of errors and set up issues along the way but now that all the bugs are ironed out and it is set up in the way we need it it's a breeze (most days)

Payroll processing through WTE is great, love using that. Like how every hour can be coded to jobs, project and using cost codes we know what everyone is doing with their time as well

Cons:

Customer support - you never know how long it will take for someone to respond. The error screen - when errors occur it doesn't tell you what you did wrong, you just know there's an error and you have to guess and check until it works again.

Payroll Module in Explorer

Experience is great, system is accurate and reliable. No issues with calculation and deductions of source deductions, union benefits, pensions and so on

Slow payroll processing when you have larger number of employees to process, may take hours to process over 1000 employees

ease of use, support staff are extremely helpful and training with [sensitive content hidden] was always helpful and solved our issues.

Cons:

They removed the nice reporting feature that our management was used to looking at and replaced it with a different look.

Powerful Data Platform

Not as Intuitive as I'd Like

My overall experience with Eclipse has been mediocre. Once I learned to use the system in all of the areas needed for my workplace, it became much easier to navigate and understand. Learning the system was somewhat of a challenge for me, as I was new to the construction field and I had to use step by step instructions repeatedly until it became second nature. So, the issue is not with the software itself, it is a combination of my lack of knowledge of the field and being a new employee with the company. Once I learned all the steps and used it regularly, it became much easier to use as expected.

I like the amount of information you can view; how you can add and remove columns to include the data that you need and remove the data you do not need.

Cons:

I dislike that the software does not seem to be very intuitive. In order for me to learn to use the software, I had to use step by step instructions, as many of the features and fields were not obvious as to what they are used for and what they can do. I also dislike that there are many visible fields in data entry areas that were to be left blank and I would have liked to see those fields completely removed to eliminate confusion when first learning to use the system.
