    Pros:
The ease and efficiency of performing a grading takeoff. It is faster and easier than other platforms. Everything is very straightforward. It has increased my bidding and estimating efficiency ten fold.
    Cons:
I have no complaints with Insite, it is my favorite takeoff program hands down. It takes a fraction of the time to perform a grading takeoff accurately when compared to Trimble Business Center.

Reasons for choosing InSite Elevation Pro

Ease of Use, Customer Support, training resources.

Reasons for switching to InSite Elevation Pro

Price and ease of use. Trimble Business Center can be very complex and hard to learn. InSite Elevation Pro can be mastered in much less time. They have really thought this product through and worked hard to make it as easy and efficient as possible.

My Choice for Civil Take-Off Software

    5

I have been utilizing InSite Elevation Pro since its release. Prior to that I utilized the previous InSite program for take offs. The ease of use, constant improvements and the ability to accurately take off 3-4 Civil jobs per week make it my choice for a take off program.

    Pros:
InSite Elevation Pro provides immediate and constant support when needed. It is budget-friendly, but yet provides all of the necessary information and quality, easy to read reports. This allows me to be confident on my bids and has sped up my estimating process.
    Cons:
There is not much to dislike about this program. I do use the program for 25-40 hours per week. I would like the program to make it easier to generate a TP3 Surface for my machines. It is possible, but it is currently quite a process. I also would eventually like to see a "dark" option for viewing and perhaps the ability to select more muted colors. Overall, the product leaves little to complain about.

Reasons for choosing InSite Elevation Pro

Some of my team utilize Agtek Gradework. However, I prefer the ease of use and speed of Elevation Pro. I can usually complete a full take-off in half the time. I do think that Agtek has a easier process to convert take-offs to a .tp3 for machine surfaces.

    Vendor Response

Eric, thank you for the positive review. We will follow up on best practices in regards to tp3 file creation.

    Pros:
What I like most about Elevation Pro is the customer support. Whenever I have a question or run into a problem, the support team is there to help me sort it out.
    Cons:
I wish there was a better way to keep track of overridden trenches when using a location type centerline. Most of the time, I use a location type centerline when backfill material changes as the pipe passes between hardscaped/landscaped sections. It would be nice to have a visual difference between the two so I can better keep track of what backfill type I modeled. Also, assigning colors to specific pipe layers would be awesome so I don't have to find the right color each time I create a new centerline. For example, blue is assigned to the waterline layer, green to sewer, orange to storm drain, etc.

Reasons for choosing InSite Elevation Pro

I'm new to estimating, so I was not aware of the size and reputation of companies like AGTEK and Trimble. Your sales team was just lightyears better. I felt confident InSite was a better place to put our money compared to others.

    Vendor Response

Thank you for such a detailed and thoughtful review! Providing responsive, knowledgeable support is something we take a lot of pride in. We also appreciate your suggestions regarding visual indicators for overridden trenches and the ability to assign default colors to specific pipe layers. Feedback like this is incredibly valuable and helps guide future improvements to make workflows even clearer and more efficient. We're honored that you chose InSite over other well-known options and that our team helped earn your confidence. Vendor Response

Thank you for the thoughtful review! We're glad to hear that you find InSite easy to use and intuitive. We put a lot of effort into that, so it’s great to know the interface and 3D view are helping your team. You also make a great point about CAD files. Depending on how they’re created, they can definitely add some complexity when getting a project set up. Our team is continually working on ways to streamline file setup and make it faster to get from import to estimating. Make sure you are running the latest versions of our software as it is constantly improved to streamline takeoff. We're grateful for your comments about our support team and ongoing updates. Hearing that you plan to continue using Elevation Pro means a lot to us. Pros:
It is user friendly, the software is robust, however the ease of use makes it less daunting to take off larger more complex sites with ease. Even with concept plans it makes it easy to generate a report and allows me to estimate earlier in the project which in turn makes bidding easier. It also allows me to redesign a site to allow for some value engineering where possible.
    Cons:
I haven't had any negatives yet. There was a learning curve for me, as I use it from a development standpoint and not as much for hard bids, but it is an invaluable tool in our toolbox for seeing if a site is viable for development.

    Cons:
The only improvement I’d suggest is having the drawings and files fully embedded within the software.

Reasons for switching to InSite Elevation Pro

Needed something web based and could handle CAD files.

    Vendor Response

Thank you for the great feedback! We're glad to hear that the speed and precision are helping you work efficiently. As for the suggestion about having drawings and files fully embedded within the software......that would have some merit, but often a takeoff might go through many revisions and have multiple PDF pages, CAD files, Drone topos, surveys, etc. aligned, making for some potential huge and inefficient files. You will be happy to know the next version will make it much easier to reopen aligned files, speeding the workflow. Being able to work from anywhere is something we know is important for our users. (For those reading this review, E-Pro is a locally installed application with cloud based licensing with the option to check out the software so you can work without an internet connection. Many of our customers are in jobsite trailers with at best a phone hotspot connection.) Thanks again for sharing your experience with InSite!

A Powerful Takeoff Tool Backed by Unmatched Support

    5

My overall experience has been excellent. The software handles a wide range of construction site takeoffs while remaining reasonably priced, and I truly hope their pricing and support model never changes because both are major strengths. The InSite team consistently releases updates and adds new features, showing ongoing commitment to customer needs and long‑term product improvement. It’s a reliable, efficient, and cost‑effective solution that continues to deliver value on every project.

    Pros:
There are several things I genuinely love about InSite Elevation Pro. My number one favorite is the technical support team—I work evenings and weekends, and I always receive a response within hours, seven days a week, which is extremely rare in this industry. The next best thing is the ability to quickly paste EG/FG surfaces without having to take off each individual grade line, which saves a massive amount of time and eliminates repetitive work. Beyond those top two, InSite delivers excellent value for the money, especially considering how capable and consistent the software is compared to other takeoff platforms. I also appreciate the emphasis on data security, giving me confidence that project files and sensitive information are handled responsibly. The report generation tools are another major advantage—being able to print clean, organized takeoffs and provide clients with accurate totals adds a lot of professionalism to our deliverables. From an estimating perspective, InSite Elevation Pro significantly speeds up takeoff time and provides all the data needed to assemble a complete, accurate, and competitive bid. Features like trench takeoff with reliable spoils/backfill quantities round out the package and make it a dependable tool for real‑world construction workflows.
    Cons:
There really isn’t much to dislike about the software itself. Most issues you run into come from poorly created CAD files from engineers, not from InSite. If I could request one improvement, it would be the addition of AI that can read textures and help automate concrete, asphalt, and landscape takeoffs. That enhancement would elevate an already strong platform even further.

User Experience with Insite Elevation Pro

    5

Anytime there is an issue or I don't know how to do something, Insite's customer support is readily available and knowledgeable to answer questions. If needed, they can quickly remote into the program to look at it directly, not only telling me what to do but also showing me. Insite also periodically makes updates to take care of any gliches that may come up, and also add new features to improve program features and functions. for example, they recently added a feature to adjust the size of the numbers and letters that are printed on the printout maps, to match the size of the map and make them more readable when printed. Just like any estimating program, you have to learn how to input the information so it's useable when it comes out, but overall I've found this process relatively easy, and the reports very informative and useful. It creates accurate and useful data and maps very quickly and efficiently, and is a good value for the money.

    Pros:
I have been estimating for decades, going back to digitizer boards and early desktop computers. I've watched the evolution from them to takeoffs on multiple large monitors and lightning fast computers. Elevation Pro has proven to be very fast and efficient at inputting information. On multi-page projects, I can set plan scale and tie plans together in minutes. Being able to pull up multiple plan sheets simultaneously, I can cross reference and input data from multiple sources without having to get out of one to get into the others. While tracing contours, sloping lines, subgrades, etc., vector points pop up ahead of where I've traced, making imputing the data faster and more accurate.
    Cons:
The vector points are very useful, but they tend to be very jittery, popping in and out. Sometimes when multiple lines are close together, it can be like a wack-a-mole trying to click on them before they disappear again. It can be a little intense, but you get used to it. I would also like to be able to cut out sections of a subgrade, such as islands in a parking lot, without having to keyhole them, or rely on using higher numbered areas to accomplish this. Relying solely on numbered areas requires you to perfectly plan ahead for every contingency before you begin. If something changes or unknowns become apparent, you may have to redo some or all of the data. Fortunately, entering subgrade data is very fast, so it minimizes the hassle.

    Vendor Response

Gary, thank you for the thoughtful and detailed review — we truly appreciate the feedback. Multi-document alignment is currently exclusive to Elevation Pro, and we’re working toward AI-assisted multi-page stitching (with user confirmation). Our goal is to keep raising the bar on speed, accuracy, and validation. Regarding the “jittery” behavior: this is caused by data preselection in single-layer PDFs where elements can’t be separated. The video under Help > Videos > Pro Tips > Magnetic Endpoint Selection shows how to harness this feature and improve efficiency. On CAD or layered files, isolating layers eliminates the issue. We also have a major release after ConExpo that addresses many of your other suggestions. We’re excited about what’s coming and appreciate you helping us continue to improve.

The Best Program for Estimation at this Point + Some Suggested Features

    5

The InSite team has been incredibly helpful and determined to see us successful using their program. As the sole estimator at my company, it is imperative to have a good estimating software and that I have the resources to use it. InSite has accomplished that. They also seem to be constantly hard at work ensuring further development and new features. I am excited to see an in-program material catalog, but am looking forward with greater eagerness to layered/phased proposed grades and phased subgrades, as well as an intersect tool for subgrades. These would be the biggest help in my personal process.

I like it's accuracy, ease of use, and wide range of features. But most of all, I'd have to say I appreciate the ability to quickly view (and review) the site you have created using 3D live views, and even to overlay your takeoff to real world views using export to KMZ.
    Cons:
The price tag might be a little disheartening, but it is worth it for the speed, accuracy and consistency offered by this program. I don't think we could create as many accurate takeoffs or submit as many bids without it. Not really a "con" but I also discuss features in my "overall experience" which I think would help me the most in my takeoff process.
