Processing Big Data Made Easier

4

We have experienced wonderful customer service with NextPoint, and are constantly in touch with our representative (or she frequently checks in with us to hear how things are going). The service and support is much different from our previous product, where it was very difficult to speak with our representative or receive help as needed. Our team has been glad to grow with NextPoint, even though many other ESI providers often contact us.

Pros:
We like that we have the ability to load, organize, and sort large amounts of data. This is our second ESI software to work with, and it is much more robust in its capabilities with managing data. It has the ability for trial presentation which essentially combines two products into one, and saves our smaller, boutique firm from needing to purchase multiple types of software for various legal tasks.
Cons:
The ability to process some Auto Cad files without customer support. As we mainly handle construction law matters, we work with multiple AutoCad files. We need the ability to process them independently and efficiently.

Reasons for choosing Nextpoint

The pricing was much more in line for us as a smaller firm.

Reasons for switching to Nextpoint

Lexbe did not offer all of the capability that we needed. Furthermore, the customer service was quite lacking.

The Good and the Bad

A love/hate relationship. Easy to use once you get going, but it seems there are a lot of hoops to jump through to get the desired results.

Pros:
The ability to create folders for the different issues. The ability to easily produce a production set through Nextpoint to opposing counsel. Easy to upload and download documents. That it generates exhibit lists.
Cons:
That there is a litigation side and a discovery side and that they do not easily link or segue. That there are so many more steps to do something than most other databases. That you can't tag something and have the next document automatically tag/repeat the same tags, so have to code/tag each subsequent page/document separately. That searches bring back documents without the search terms. That you cannot just mark redactions and export them that way for attorney final review. That you cannot create issues on the fly. That there seems to be a lot of work arounds to get same results with most other databases. Not all columns of data can be sorted. When you adjust your document review columns, they don't stay adjusted. That exported PDFs, while searchable, do not highlight the search term(s) on the page and so you have to review the entire page. That the main dashboard that lists all the Matters is not searchable. That you have to create a project, then a discovery, then a litigation instead of just creating a project and uploading.

Reasons for choosing Nextpoint

The committee didn't include end user paralegals. The features and needs were not assessed with paralegal input.

Reasons for switching to Nextpoint

The firm wanted a different database system so it could bill back to clients.

We are a boutique firm and handle a limited number of matters in litigation. However, when we do there is always a large number of documents. Nextpoint was one of the first programs compatible with Mac so we signed on with them. Over the years the costs become excessive. We have tried to work with them, but their contracts are never quite what they say they are going to charge us.

User Friendly ~ Excellent Customer Service

The representatives at Nextpoint are top notch! They care about your success and the setup of your company. I've spent a decent amount of time in the program, but still consider myself a newbie to the eDiscovery software and all it has to offer. The more you utilize it, the easier it becomes and the more you learn. In addition, the associates learned Nextpoint in no time and all provided positive feedback on the ease of access and tagging documents. Nextpoint is a software that bridges the gap between someone new to eDiscovery, an advanced user or someone in between.

Pros:
First and foremost the format of training and ease of access for "how to" thereafter. The material to train is provided through short mini videos and accompanying articles broken down by category. This allows each person to go at their own pace. On our firm's last eDiscovery program the representative flew to our office and taught it in person. I was lost 2 hours into training. The next 3 days were a blur and I learned nothing. At all times Nextpoint provides access to their video/written guides (I've used this too many times to count!). They are precise and easy to find. Features to date that are beneficial are the analytics page for projects, OCR'd documents upon import, ability to search and create review folders based on that search, adding outside reviewers and reports on exports. Moving to a cloud-based system has been very beneficial for us as a firm. It can take longer for upload/downloading, but that's to be expected. It's more accessible for us and clients.
Cons:
-Documents export on a production in random order. It's a routine issue with opposing counsel (understandably) and one we have no control over. Nextpoint allows documents to be exported chronologically. Chronological is good, but only with the company or category by which it's associated (i.e., bank, medical, email, etc.). -There are no plans for HEIC files to be supported, so a document image is created. -Redactions are done on a page by page basis. Bulk redaction is a paid for service. Redaction features, in its full capacity, should be part of a user's plan.

Reasons for choosing Nextpoint

Price per user instead of price per GB.

Reasons for switching to Nextpoint

We were in need of a cloud-based system, reasonable in price and with more features than what we currently had.

Pros:
Working in an industry with a high volume of data, I needed a tool to both manage costs and the user experience. Nextpoint gave me both with flat monthly fee for unlimited data and unlimited cases. The system is very easy to use from importing to processing to reviewing. I've trained attorneys remotely to access cases I manage in about fifteen minutes.
Cons:
I definitely love this system, but there are some things that can be improved. My main wish list item is a means of monitoring processing. For example, when a batch is Bates-labeling, I'd like to be able to know it is "75% complete". As I understand, improvements on this feature are in the works.

Reasons for switching to Nextpoint

AccessData Summation was at end-of-life cycle and I was forced to find a means of continuing to manage document production in high volume litigation (cases of 500GB or more regularly). I tested several systems (Relativity, IPro and Exterro among them), looking at cost versus capabilities. Nextpoint just made sense with all the functionality offered at a flat monthly rate.

Pros:
Nextpoint's most attractive quality is not its numerous industry-leading features; it's the first-class, personalized support provided by its competent and kind team. For small firms like ours, feeling valued by your software partner is just as important as the software fulfilling its purpose. The Nextpoint team consistently offers creative solutions for all the extreme edge cases we've encountered. We have never been left without a path forward on complex issues that fall outside the scope of standard eDiscovery software. If you value a white-glove, humanized experience, Nextpoint is undoubtedly the best option in the market.
Cons:
Pricing for near duplication searches can be vastly improved.

Reasons for choosing Nextpoint

We didn't feel comfortable with the way other products would handle our firm.

Cons:
Price per license, although the price is comparable to other database services Lag time for large uploads

Reasons for choosing Nextpoint

Unlimited storage and unlimited training were perks that our team felt were worth the cost to transition. We also received support in transitioning our databases from Eclipse iPro to Nextpoint.

Reasons for switching to Nextpoint

We were looking for an application that was less expensive and provided unlimited storage.

Pros:
It's very easy to use - has better features than leading products such as Everlaw and Relativity.
Cons:
Sometimes the bugs cause inconvenience - usually the sorting and filtering areas, but they are short lived. I can't stand the redaction tool, and our reps are always aware of how much I hate it. But I also know it's a work in progress. And, while I prefer Nextpoint to Everlaw a million times over, I very much like Everlaw's redaction tool and versioning process (to a certain extent, however, as there are some parts of both that I dislike). Quite frankly, there aren't many things I dislike about Nextpoint.

Reasons for choosing Nextpoint

I picked IDK for the switch because it did not let me choose Summation. Summation was in-house based (ie. servers and in-house storage). Nextpoint was cloud based. We were just building our e-discovery at the firm and did not want to undertake the in-house costs for housing/operating Summation. Then, we were so impressed by how Nextpoint helped us with a random emergency project about 12-15 years ago, that we stuck with them. As they grew and e-discovery became a larger thing, Nextpoint was willing to work with our firm while we grew our ediscovery (it has been a long and slow start). They have always been attentive and helpful, and patient with us, which I greatly respect and appreciate. I also appreciate the simplicity of the two platforms, which is very important when trying to teach older attorneys to use it. I fight to stay with NP every time our IT asks if I want to look at other products.

Essential tool for any Law Firm

My cases average in excess of 50,000 documents with some reaching 1 million (with over 1 TB held by Nextpoint for the past 4 years and all we pay is a per user fee each month.) Nextpoint has allowed us to review productions fast and efficiently creating production logs and privilege logs directly within the system as part of the export. This alone has saved us from requesting extensions of time and keeping our cases within the original trial deadlines helping our clients reach resolutions much faster. I cannot imagine not using nextpoint.

Pros:
In the paperless office environment we all live in it is essential that discovery not be priced per storage needs. Nextpoint's per user fee billing saves our clients money and helps us budget our discovery costs regardless of the size of the case.
Cons:
Exchanging documents with other lawfirms under an ESI agreement can be cumbersome as each platform determines the standard production an this has been a problem in some of our cases. The industry needs to agree on a single standard to avoid this or build in export templates for the largest services. With that said the Support staff is always there to help.

A Trial Paralegal's Perspective

Pros:
One of Nextpoint's standout features is its robust organizational tools, which let users sort information by facts, people, and issues in alignment with the trial process. Additionally, its remote access capability is invaluable in the courtroom, allowing legal professionals to manage case files, evidence, and documents in real-time, including finding and marking exhibits or deposition call outs on the fly as issues arise.
Cons:
The system does have limitations in the ability to map all metadata fields during import. This can result in complicating data representation, requiring manual corrections to ensure consistency.
