About Carta

Carta is a cloud-based solution that helps organizations in the finance industry streamline and manage portfolios, valuations, holdings and more. It provides enterprises with a fund administrative module, which enables venture capitalists to review evolving Internal Rate of Returns (IRR) on a centralized dashboard.

Carta allows supervisors to view important information based on raised cash or last preferred valuation and request access to investors' capitalization table. It lets businesses store paper certificates in a secured vault, eliminating the risk of theft or loss. Additionally, investors can utilize mobile applications on Android and iOS devices to track investment ownership and assets’ performance in real-time.

Carta comes with an application programming interface (API), which lets professionals integrate the system with several third-party platforms such as Namely, Xero, QuickBooks and more. Pricing is available on request and support is extended via phone and email.

Super easy to keep track of my stock options

Overall it is simple and easy to use and makes it easy for a company with a large number of employees to keep track of which people have which vested stock options.

Pros:

Love how Carta automatically updates me as to when I have more vested options and shows a progress bar as to how far I still have to go for all of my stock options to vest.

Cons:

No complaints but I probably haven't used this software at a deep enough level to truly find anything difficult or something to dislike about this software.

Carta - all-in-one Equity management for privately held companies

5-star. I have a been a Corporate Securities Attorney for 20+ years (15+ years in house) and Carta is my favorite application for privately held entities. It has saved countless hours in spreadsheets, providing a turnkey solution that is accurate and easy to administer for the Board, Investors, and Employees.

Pros:

Equity management is turnkey. Ability to share with our Attorneys and Accountants. Ability to quickly pull data and reports for outside Funds and Auditors. Self-serve option portal for Employees.

Cons:

Some of the nuances are complex, but the Software works. It takes some training, but the effort is worth the time to keep all your Equities in a single ledger.

Really thorough tool, but sometimes get lost in the weeds

Carta has been the only equity administration tool we've used as a startup for nearly 10 years, and our finance team and employees have been extremely satisfied.

Pros:

The employee experience in Carta is really straightforward (and offers educational resources we love), and the reporting functionality for administrators is very thorough.

Cons:

Equity administration can be very confusing, and I sometimes find myself getting lost in the admin portal. Additionally, the Rippling integration is helpful but not quite as flushed out as I think it could be.

Great, but it can scale up more

Pros:

As start up COO, Carta has been saving lots of time to grant stocks or stock options. Before using Carta, we always had to go through the attorney and it was hard to track.

Cons:

It would be great if Carta has option to sell or exercise stock options directly. Then, it automatically sends the emails to existing shareholders and among them, if there are who are interested, they have options to purchase

Eshares to Carta

We started with Carta when it was Eshares. Prior to using this software we were tracking everything in an excel spreadsheet which was a complete cluster. Now we can easily pull reports for information on the shareholders. The only difficulty I have encountered is the lack of a report that my auditors will accept without manipulation from myself. Still way better than manual tracking.
