Impulse is a software used to calculate pressure surge transients in liquid piping systems caused by water hammer. It is designed for a range of industries, including water, petroleum, chemicals, and cryogenics. The software helps engineers understand and address the effects of water hammer and surge pressure in their piping systems.

The software features a transient solver based on the Method of Characteristics, which allows for accurate calculation of pressure surges. It also includes a built-in steady-state solver that automatically initializes the water hammer transient analysis. Impulse's pump inertial modeling capabilities, including four-quadrant methods, enable engineers to simulate pump trips and start-ups, a common cause of water hammer. Additionally, the software models liquid column separation caused by transient cavitation and includes extensive cavitation modeling features.
