About IIS Inspector

IIS Inspector is a log management solution that helps businesses analyze websites hosted or proxied using Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). The application lets administrators view the percentage of requests received from various sources including web servers, operating systems, browsers, referring domains and more.

IT professionals can use the application to analyze event tracing for Windows (ETW) events, conduct audits and identify the geolocation of web requests. Additionally, it allows IT teams to filter web requests captured from Microsoft IIS web servers and generate distribution and time series reports.

IIS Inspector offers integration with MaxMind GeoIP, a third-party geolocation service. The application is available on a perpetual license basis and support is extended via video tutorials and online measures.

A great tool to measure high latency events

Once installed, it gives great visibility on systems that otherwise may not be obvious.

Pros:

When you have a web app, knowing more than just errors, and the volume of requests, but knowing the times and types of events that lead to high latency requests, that often have cascading effects on the rest of the system is very important.

Cons:

It was difficult to install, it could have been easier.

Reasons for choosing IIS Inspector

We also considered developing a similar tool in-house, but it would have taken too long.
