Pros:

I have used this service in my projects, it is very complete and very precise, it allows you to search for places by writing in different languages and still returns the correct information.

Cons:

The names of places, although very complete, in some cases do not contain data with which they are commonly known, for example; airports have acronyms that identify them, if you search for them with these acronyms the results are not found.

Reasons for choosing LocationIQ

I like the simplicity that LocationIQ offers, I can test the APIs and see the result in the LocationIQ platform, plus the documentation is useful and dynamic.

Reasons for switching to LocationIQ

Google Maps does not offer free API access for personal projects, and I can't pay for a service for a project that I don't know will be successful.

It is free to use! API is comparable easy to googles comercial geocoding solution.

Cons:

The data quality is not the same as I expierenced on Google Geocoding. Typeerrors in addresses or completly missing addresses in Germany.

Super easy to implement (10 minutes for devs to change APIs and push up to servers), increadibly affordable (we are saving 90% compared to Google maps), beautiful maps.

Cons:

Compared to other mapping solutions we have tried is it very hard to find anything bad about locationIQ. One item would be that we would like to be able to customize our maps more (change colors, color gradients and such)

The API is relatively straightforward and it's nice to not be locked into Google's mapping ecosystem. LocationIQ is saving us quite a bit of money right now.

Cons:

The interface for devs could be a little nicer but honestly that's a super minor concern.
