The Silk Cloud Platform is a cloud data and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution that helps businesses get their large, complex databases onto the cloud and running at speeds on-par or better than on-prem environments.

The Silk Cloud Platform is designed for mission-critical databases like Oracle and Exadata, SQL Server, and Epic that demand fast performance in the cloud. Silk has proven performance of over 1 million IOPS, 20 GB/S throughput, with consistent sub-millisecond latency.

In addition to ultra-fast performance, Silk ensures high resiliency and availability for your data in the cloud, so your databases are always on and working for you. Silk's enterprise data services, including data compression, deduplication, thin provisioning, and zero-footprint clones, keep your data footprint and cloud bill in check.

Silk enables your team to use machine-learning-based analytics to monitor features, data, and performance usage. It allows supervisors to ensure security via data encryption, replication, zero-footprint cloning and compression. Additionally, it enables team members to handle cloud migration and data mobility across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

Dramatically increased performance at a lower cost

We were an early adopter of this technology, and have continued to be impressed by the solution. When we first purchased, we were primarily looking for a cost-effective, high-performance SAN for our private cloud. But, Silk continually added capability, and has anticipated our need to move to a hybrid public/private cloud architecture. The new features should help enable a more seamless transition, while keeping our public cloud storage costs in check.

Pros:

Our application had a voracious appetite for IOPs, and Silk provided a cost-effective solution to satisfy those needs. Now that we are moving towards a hybrid cloud infrastructure, Silk is providing a path forward that should minimize changes to our storage environment, and allow the team to manage data through a common interface that they are already familiar with.

Cons:

The only con is not really for Silk, but more related to the fact that our technology stack was fairly unique and outdated -- this created challenges generally as we went through a hybrid cloud transformation.

Reasons for choosing Silk Cloud Data Platform

We performed a side-by-side comparison with actual data loads. The Silk solution performed at the top of our evaluations, and when combined with the lower cost, it was a fairly easy decision. What we did not know at the time, is how good the Silk customer service is -- that turned out to be an unexpected bonus. The services team really partnered with us whenever we ran into any issues.

Reasons for switching to Silk Cloud Data Platform

Our former solution had became far too expensive as our performance and storage needs continued to grow.

The overall performance of the Silk Cloud Platform was very good. Neglecting the cons part, everyone should use it for a minimum of one time.

Pros:

The best thing about it is that it provide a very easy way to store data efficiently and provides a good level of security to the user data so it cannot be attacked or accessed by the intruders.

Cons:

The worst part about it was the feature of data replication. Sometimes, the data replication feature has failed to perform which led to the mix up of data on a large scale.

Reasons for choosing Silk Cloud Data Platform

As i have heard about it from a friend and they have recommended it so I have used this product over others because of this reason.

The ease of use, ease of integration, versatility of the end-user, it does what it is supposed to do - very well, less time spent on spending money for more time in the cloud.

Cons:

It does not make coffee or deliver my paper in the morning.

Silk Platform really makes our day to day with our SAN so much easier!

Pros:

The ease of seeing all of our devices in one, easy dashboard. In the past, I had to login to the GUI on each of our SAN devices which became quite cumbersome. The capacity planning and visibility into our throughput are the items I really like

Cons:

It may be a little busy. I believe I can customize the default views, but I have not done that as yet.
