About UserTesting

UserTesting is a customer experience platform that helps businesses create tests to collect feedback about launched products and marketing operations. It enables professionals to build custom tests using a drag-and-drop interface, add multiple questions/tasks and streamline follow-up processes through one-on-one video interviews.

With UserTesting's dashboard, enterprises can measure audiences' experience using multiple-choice questions (MCQs) or rating scales and export performance reports in Excel format. It allows managers to schedule live interviews with customers, record videos and share screens during ongoing discussions. Additionally, users can capture test results in video and utilize the built-in chat functionality to communicate with clients.

UserTesting provides pre-formatted tests, which can be used by businesses to collect feedback about sales campaigns from marketing teams. Pricing is available on request and support is extended via phone, email and other online measures.

    Pros:
First and foremost their customer service and feedback is beyond anything I have seen. If I run a user test and there is an error not only will they get back to me in real time, they will walk you through what caused the error so you can avoid it in the future. As for the product itself it took me about a day to feel like a power user, its very intuitive and is such a welcoming UI.
    Cons:
Every once and a while prototypes using adobe XD will cause about 5% of testers to load a prototype that does not work.

    Reasons for choosing UserTesting

They had the best customer feedback and responses. They were always available to chat and walk us through anything we did not understand.

    Pros:
Being able to playback videos that include a view of the user's screen as well as a webcam view of their face makes watching the videos engaging. But the best thing is the ease at which you can set up tests and set quotas and screening criteria.
    Cons:
The dashboard playing back the data is a bit clunky and the data requires a bit of tidying up once exported into excel (data is presented across multiple worksheets and requires combining).

    Reasons for choosing UserTesting

These platforms only offered pay per test/tester models which wouldn't have suited our finance team. Usertesting allows a good volume of testing to be done for one annual charge.

    Reasons for switching to UserTesting

We trial other providers at the end of each contract and found that the features and usability of UserTesting were superior to Userzoom for what we needed.

    Pros:
The best thing about usertesting is that it pays much better than other testing sites like utest or testlio. It pays 10$ for some simple tests which require just 10-15 minutes. There are some tests in which we need to attend live discussions and those tests pay 30-90$ which is excellent. Another thing I like about usertesting is that step by step instructions are given for every tests due to which it is easier for persons who are new to testing. Also, the payment gets processed within a week or 10 days. Apart from that, the User Interface of the desktop website and the app is pretty good.
    Cons:
The thing I dislike about usertesting is that the notification system is not good. In order to get new tests, one must keep the browser or the app open, else we miss the test opportunities. I find this thing quite annoying.

    Pros:
I guess the tool overall is very easy to use, you'll find your test have participants assigned in less than 20/30 min or around 2 hours for live conversation moderated tasks. The team at Usertesting is also amazing and always willing to help out.
    Cons:
there are a few things that need improvement, but these are very small things and mostly on new functionalities that are being worked on.

    Reasons for choosing UserTesting

The team at Usertesting is just amazing, that in itself was a factor we considered, but also I'd say the pricing was more appealing.

A Consistent and Valuable Platform for Detail-Oriented Testers

    5

I've been a freelance usability tester on UserTesting for over three years. It's a legitimate site, well organized and provides genuine opportunities to earn money by providing actionable feedback to companies looking to improve their digital products. The work is engaging and perfect for those with an analytical mind and strong attention to detail.

    Pros:
Engaging Work: There are always varying tasks that are interesting. This allows you to test anything from websites, to apps, of all sorts of sectors, keeping the work from becoming monotonous. Skill Development: It sharpens your ability to analyze usability design significantly. And hones your skills in pattern recognition and providing structured, data-driven feedback. User-Friendly Interface: The platform itself is very intuitive. The entire process is very straightforward, from recording tests to submitting reports. Reliable Payments: Payments are processed automatically and reliably every week via paypal. You always know when to expect your earnings. Impactful Feedback: It's rewarding to know that your detailed insights are directly used by developers and designers to create better user experiences.
    Cons:
Inconsistent Test Availability: Inconsistency of available tests. You can qualify for a bunch of tests one week then the next week not qualify for even one, making it unreliable as a sole source of income. High Disqualification Rate: You often spend more time on screening questionnaires only to be disqualified, rather than actually taking tests. In a whole hour you might qualify for one or two on a good day, which can be frustrating. A more intelligent matching system would be beneficial. Payment Can Feel Low for Effort: While the payment is fair, when you factor in the time spent on screeners and the detailed feedback required for a 15-20 minute test, the effective hourly rate can be lower than it initially appears. Limited Direct Communication: There is little to no direct collaboration with the clients. You provide your feedback into a void and rarely see the outcome or get to discuss your insights further.

It’s not cheap, and some of the responses can feel hurried or low-effort, unless you vet participants well.

    Pros:
I love the fact that that there are so many variety of test one can take in order to earn money. It's usually $10 a test, but the more you take the more it adds up. There are times when more compensation is offered, but again it's usually $10 per test; the rule of multiplication comes in when you use more than one device. With the opportunity to also use your own devices from home or remotely (as long as it's quiet in the background), you can use your desktop, laptop, tablet (if allowed), iPad, and/or iPhone. I believe drones can be used now, though I'm not exactly sure.
    Cons:
Two main disadvantages are that you're not going to qualify for every test. Some tests are based on region, age, gender, if you have certain devices, if you have a certain version software on the device, etc. That's given so it's best to keep your devices and software updated. When you're updating your devices and would like to get back to the test in order to complete it, that's where the problem lies. They should have it where you're able to return to the test in order to complete it.

Overall, I like Usertesting's communication with testers who are using their app and website. They are able to get back to you as soon as they can. The app may crash at times which can be annoying, but they give out frequent tests and is the most used website. I would continue to use their app and website. I just wish some of the crashes were fixed.

    Pros:
I like the app a lot. The design of the app is very sleek. The functionality works good where I do not have many problems with it when it comes to tapping on the menu or when I receive tests. I am able to communicate with Customer Support fairly fast and they are able to compensate when it comes to finding bugs at times. They also have an option where you can check to see other tests on the laptop / desktop which they can allow you to test multiple devices. You do get paid to take their tests and they are very good about giving payment. Though, it may take a little longer to receive at times.
    Cons:
There are times when the app takes a long time to open after receiving a test. There are other times while you are taking one of the tests which you received that there will be lag time for a minute when clicking on the plus sign. Once tapping on the plus sign on the app, it may freeze, and take awhile to get to another page they may request for you to use. Sometimes after you do that, the app crashes.

My favorite thing about user testing as a platform is its ability to generate insights in a short amount of time. The User testing team has built out an extensive network of testers all over the world to make sure that we can get access to those that are under our target audience and in a timely manner.
    Cons:
Occasionally we'll get a few participants who try to speed through and game the system by giving false responses to earn the incentive. This kind of thing is hard to control and is expected. The User testing team has always been good about swapping these sessions out to not impact our usage.
