About Cogent

Cogent is an on-premise debt collection and case management solution designed for companies of all sizes. It features document management, a rules engine, on-boarding and calendar management functionalities within a suite.

Cogent features document management, which allows users to integrate with scanners and store documents. Users can also create templates for different documents and print them from the system.

Cogent’s rules engine provides users a set of predefined rules and conditions, which can be used to perform data assessment and evaluation. These rules can be applied on a specific set of customers based on their attributes such as location and industry.

The case management functionality of the solution includes a "court calendar," which allows users to manage case records and dates and evaluate the Statutes of Limitations for different states in the United States. The on-premise deployment is compatible with Windows operating systems.

    Incredibly powerful tool

We are a collections law firm that handles approximately 150,000 open cases at any given time with a total of 100 employees while maintaining very tight timelines for completion of tasks and thorough control of the suit and collection process on all claims. The software is the primary reason we are able to do that. In addition, AgreeYa's support is very responsive and they are constantly working to add additional capabilities based on user input.

    Pros:
Cogent is a very powerful software that provides the ability to customize the product to your specific needs in a wide variety of areas including accounting, document production, scheduling, account history, workflow based on data and conditions that occur and reporting. This allows for a maximum level of automation and control of your processes.
    Cons:
The original architect of Cogent used to say the good thing about Cogent is it is flexible and the bad thing about Cogent is it is flexible. So just be aware that getting the software to work exactly as you intend takes some real effort in planning and design.

    Reasons for choosing Cogent

For all the reasons stated above.

    Reasons for switching to Cogent

We needed software with better accounting capabilities and a greater ability to automate processes.

Our firm's overall experience with Cogent has been positive. I cannot say enough great things about the support they provide.

    Pros:
Cogent support staff hands down beat any software company I have worked with. Support is one item most companies fail to even address, this is not the case with Cogent. This product is easy to use. We went from a proprietary system which made it extremely difficult to find a product on the market that offered technological growth without losing some of the unique key processes built on our proprietary system specifically for our firm's processes.
    Cons:
Cogent does not have its own accounting package. You must use a different software application which can be challenging. There are other features that are not 100% however, through collaborating with their users these features are corrected.

    Reasons for choosing Cogent

Cogent right out of the box offered more than the other companies. The other companies we looked at dismissed us because we weren't as large as the other firms.

Our people did not do their due diligence on this system when we where in the testing and shopping phase so it was our fault in the end.

Excellent for legal operations as it has all the bells and whistles a legal collector or Paralegal would want.
    Cons:
Its not made for non legal collections. I was a manager that managed over 100 full time collectors on this system and it was very difficult to get them trained from Ontario.

We were in need of a new way to perform our e-signing duties. AgreeYa worked with our firm and an outside vendor on a six-month project to a create web interface that will allow our documents to be merged and sent to an e-file site without manual intervention. This has significantly increased our attorney's productivity and reduced our staff time to create, manage and e-file those documents.

Cogent is a very user-friendly application for the legal collection industry. A robust platform that is far advanced from others in the industry.

Overall, my experience has been good. Everyone is very nice and tries very hard to accommodate our needs. The development level is also very high. I do wish however, that staff would be on hand during our business hours.
