About Mailgun

Mailgun is a cloud-based transactional email API service designed to help developers send, track and receive emails from websites or applications. Features include inbound email routing, A/B testing, batch sending, email personalization and scheduling.

The solution enables users to verify email domain names using SPF and DKIM records and maintain an authenticate mailing list in order to avoid fake/invalid addresses and ensure correct email deliverability. Team members can utilize the send time optimization feature to determine the suitable time for launching campaigns.

Mailgun offers integration with a variety of third-party applications such as OneSignal, 250ok, Bitrise, Smooch by Zendesk, Omnisend, Customer.io and more. It is available on both monthly subscriptions and pay-as-you-go basis. Support for the solution is provided via chat, phone, documentation and other online measures.

Pros:
Clean UXI for navigating the system, simple set up, clear dashboard to find issues quickly and navigate around the site. Ability to clean database lists to minimize bounce. However, the BEST part is they are free up to 10,000 emails a month, which is a ton! So to give the full custom power of connecting your domain and sending out, that's a huge value. I will get over that limit and upgrade soon, but that is an incredible way to start a relationship. Almost a year of free service to use their system versus my server.
Cons:
I actually have not found anything that I do not like. Many will complain about high bounce rates or going into spam. I find that issue arrises on multiple factors outside of mailgun control, such as the receiving server, and the mail habits of the person opening it, do they get a bunch of spammy mail already? And was the mail piece written in a poor nature, this increases spam folder direction, however, they do have dedicated IP service for those wanting to mitigate one area of cause for spam direction. Again, never been my experience.

Reasons for choosing Mailgun

Again, the main required integration for our CRM, and that is perfectly fine with us because it is smooth operating on the free account, I'm sure will be great on dedicated IP account.

Reasons for switching to Mailgun

Utilizing a new software CRM integration, they favored MailGun so I gave it a shot and migrated over, happy I did, everything is incredibly smooth.

Mailgun just does what I claims to do

5

Mailgun is a powerful email delivery service that excels in reliability and ease of integration, particularly with platforms like WordPress. It’s straightforward to set up and handles email delivery with minimal maintenance. I’ve been impressed by how much functionality is included in the basic plan, offering features like tracking and analytics that are often premium in other services.

Pros:
Mailgun is one of those tools that simply works. As someone who uses it regularly, I appreciate its reliability and ease of integration, especially with WordPress. Setting it up is straightforward, and once configured, it takes care of email delivery without needing constant attention or troubleshooting. One of the standout aspects is how much you get with the basic plan. Features like email tracking, analytics, and solid deliverability are included, which is often more than enough for smaller projects or businesses. It’s refreshing to see such a feature-rich offering without having to upgrade right away. I also love how well Mailgun handles what it promises—emails are delivered quickly and consistently, which is crucial for ensuring important communication doesn’t end up in spam folders. You also have a pretty good overall statistic. For anyone looking for a no-fuss email solution with great value in its entry-level plan, Mailgun is a fantastic option.
Cons:
Some settings are difficult to find, making configuration a bit frustrating at times. Additionally, the service region selection defaults back to the US, which I always forget to change. These minor inconveniences don’t overshadow its overall performance, but they’re worth noting for users who value a seamless experience. A more intuitive settings layout and a persistent region selection would make Mailgun even better.

Reasons for choosing Mailgun

When deciding between Mailgun and Postmark, the key factor for me was pricing. Mailgun’s basic plan offered more value for money, with features like email tracking, analytics, and solid email deliverability included right from the start. While Postmark focuses heavily on transactional emails, its pricing felt less competitive for the range of features Mailgun provided. Mailgun seemed to be the better option. In the end, the combination of affordability and functionality made Mailgun the obvious choice for my needs.

Don't use mailgun. You'll lose all you emails, customers and they don't confirm to EU compliance law

1

We're a paying mailgun customer for over 10 years. Until mails stopped going out. After logging in, there was an error that says 'account disabled' with no further information. It took 24 hours for customer support to respond and tell us there was a security problem with our account, but we were left on our own to figure out what was going on and how to solve it. All in all it took over a week to get our accounts back. By that time, we had migrated away to better, cheaper and more reliable alternatives.

The best thing about mailgun is that you move away from it very easily. Just close your account and don't look back
Cons:
I didn't like how mailgun disable our account (with over 25 active applications/domains and hundreds of users) and didn't tell use why for over 3 days.

Cons:
Prices are really good, as long as you "stay in your tier" It have happened a couple of times, we go way beyond our limit but also way below the next tier of pricing and the charges are easily 10X

It’s not free, and costs can add up as volume grows. Some advanced features sit behind higher-priced tiers, and pricing for dedicated IPs or email validation can be confusing. I’ve also seen occasional minor UI slowdowns.
