Great product and even better customer service!

Dealing with Knit has been super easy from the beginning. They do set a high standard when it comes to customer service, that I've always appreciated.

Pros:
Knit has a very open and transparent platform that involves its high user base with changes/features that should be implemented. It's very refreshing to see when we're able to directly impact the software we're using on a regular basis.
Cons:
Knit is constantly working on improving its platform. There are a few features we've wanting to be implemented for the last year (better ROE management, tighter reporting, better dashboard, etc.) so we're excited to see these features up and running soon.

Reasons for choosing Knit

Knit had a better pricing model (unlimited payroll processing versus per processing fee).

Reasons for switching to Knit

I had a lot of colleagues recommending Knit Payroll

Knit is the all-in-one best payroll platform

5

Excellent support and great platform. We have moved many clients over from QuickBooks to Knit for the superior experience, customer support, and the platform itself is much more automated than others on the market.

Pros:
Knit is ahead of the curve with all things payroll. Not only will they issue T4s and ROEs directly to the appropriate authorities (not available with QuickBooks payroll and many other cloud solutions), but they also allow for flexible billing options to pass on the subscription to the client with the firm discounted pricing!
Cons:
It can be difficult to get a new company verified before payroll services can be started using Knit. The verification process involves the client and relies on them knowing how to use digital ID verification through Plaid which is often a long drawn out process to walk them through and for them to complete, since we cannot do so for them. We would also love a time and attendance tracker that integrates directly in Knit. We have some work arounds with other third-party software, but it isn't perfect.

Reasons for switching to Knit

ROE and T4 directly submitted by Knit to relevant authorities - this is not available in QBO Payroll currently! Knit is much more advanced and specialized in the area of payroll compared to QBO.

Meh...you can do a lot better than Knit

2

Frustrating! Also seem to have minimal evolution in their product since I began using it. You would expect new features, improvements to existing ones, etc. Not with Knit.

Pros:
Cloud-based, good security, easy to manage employees, ROEs are easy. It does most of the core things you would expect well enough.
Cons:
Unreliable support staff. Over promise, under deliver. When you get them engaged they are confident but frequently provide timelines and their own self-imposed deadlines to fix things and they go AWOL. Lots of glitchyness generating reports. Hard to confirm that a payroll will balance before uploading to accounting software. Timeoff management is not good. Cannot get notifications to work. No integration with MS Teams.

Vendor Response

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention. Over the past year, we have strengthened our internal processes and service standards to improve responsiveness, accountability, and consistency in how client issues are handled. We also take a careful approach to product updates to avoid disrupting client workflows, while making ongoing improvements to core functionality based on usage insights and client feedback.

Really solid payroll management system!

5

I'm really happy with Knit and I would recommend it to other small business owners who are looking for an affordable payroll system. I think it covered all of the bases, the support was great when I needed help, and it's been great to be able to use it with more employees over time, too.

Pros:
I liked using the system every two weeks to run our payroll, it was more intuitive than other systems I've tried in the past. It was easy to onboard new employees, manage things like reimbursements, and handle automatically sending documents to the CRA. It was easy to track Paid Time Off requests, and my employees could easily get a copy of the documents they needed at the end of the year to do their taxes. It really is a solid solution and it doesn't feel like anything is missing, or like anything is clunky which is really nice if you've ever tried other systems that feel a little more "cobbled" together.
Cons:
There were a few sticky points like setting up vacation pay was not as straightforward as it could have been, and once a mistake was made it was hard to fix. But overall, there weren't a lot of problems or issues.

Reasons for switching to Knit

It felt like Wagepoint was clunky and it was difficult to use, keep track of what payrolls we had already run and which ones were still pending. The interface was outdated.

OK for the limited purpose of making Payroll simpler. But for a SAAS product, surprisingly very limited ability to integrate it into company processes

Pros:
Onboarding a new person is pretty easy. Good to not have to manage individual payments.
Cons:
No API, very limited integrations, booked vacations cannot easily be shared - have to have a second manual system to inform everyone (simple ICS file via email would be great). Have had a frustrating time getting some reports (Vacation IIR) - reports I had in Quickbooks 2008...

Not worth the price. Terrible support.

1

Terrible. Just one issue after another, and often the "support" team were the ones causing issues. They would give wrong information, or just not listen to what the issues were and it would make it worse.

Pros:
Not much to be honest. The onboarding process is confusing and not well supported, the running of payroll and getting reports is clunky.
Cons:
Their customer support is terrible. They told me wrong information, and ended up leading me down the wrong path for submitting payroll, and then they left me hanging and basically said you have to figure it out yourself. The whole point of paying for payroll software is so I don't have to deal with it myself. It's overpriced, terrible support, and very clunky software. I gave them two seasons of trying to make it work. Not worth the money or effort.

Vendor Response

Thank you for your detailed feedback, Nathan it offers valuable insights that help us continually refine our services. As a regulated money services business, Knit must adhere to strict FINTRAC requirements during onboarding to ensure full compliance and security, which can involve additional time and documentation, especially for initial setups; since your experience, we've strengthened our support with additional dedicated resources and expanded team training to provide more accurate, proactive, and responsive guidance.
