Key points about using the Optibus platform

The platform is easy to use, with a quick learning curve. However, the added value of using the platform depends more on the flexibility and creativity in changing how it operates than on the platform itself. The more flexible it is, the more profitable the platform can be.

Pros:

In public transportation, each operator has different and specific characteristics. The Optibus support team is always available to clarify and support the creation and modification of preferences, adapting the scenarios created to the customer's needs.

Cons:

Regarding small operational changes, the algorithm used is limited. Scenarios with large changes always yield good results, but small changes do not.

Zeitgemäße, intuitive und ganzheitliche Verkehrsplanung mit Optibus

Mit wenig Vorerfahrung in standardisierter ÖPNV-Planungssoftware hat uns der begleitende Prozess bei der Einführung und Konfiguration der Optibus Systeme auf unserer Unternehmen sehr begeistert. Bis heute hat der Kundennahe Support nicht nachgelassen und es kommen ständig neue Funktionen dazu, der große Vorteil bei einer nativen cloudbasierten SaaS Software. Das macht das Produkt fortlaufend besser ohne große Patches oder Integrations-Projekte. Im Bereich Funktionalität, Usability und Oberflächendesign begeistern uns die Anwendung nach wie vor jeden Tag aufs neue.

Wir haben 2023 damit begonnen unseren wasserseitigen ÖPNV-Verkehr im hvv mit Optibus zu organisieren und die veraltete und unflexible Excel-Planung abzulösen. Uns ist es mit wenig Vorwissen in der Belegschaft und tatkräftiger Unterstützung durch die Optibus Mitarbeiter gelungen, unsere Vor- und Einsatzplanung auf einer zeitgemäßen und moderne Plattform aufzubauen. Die nativ cloudbasierte Anwendung stellt unsere Basis für zukünftige Weiterentwicklung im Bereich der Mitarbeiter-Koordination und Fahrgastinformation. Mittlerweile bietet Optibus eine ganzheitliche Lösung von der Fahrplanung bis zur Generierung der Echtzeitdaten für Auskunftssysteme, was uns gut in die Zukunft blicken lässt.

Cons:

Nach langer Marktrecherche zwischen 2021 bis 2022 sind uns wenig Nachteile aufgefallen. Einzig die vollumfängliche Anpassung an den Deutschen Markt (VDV-Schnittstellen) war eine Voraussetzung für uns, die Optibus als damals neuer Player am Markt angehen musste. Zum Projektstart in 2023 konnten wir uns aber davon überzeugen, dass Optibus seine Hausaufgaben gemacht hat und die vollständige Integration in die Datendrehscheiben des hvv (Hamburger Verkehrsverbund) ist gelungen.

Reasons for switching to Optibus

Wir benötigten eine Software um angeschlossene Systeme über APIs mit Daten versorgen zu können. Excel ist auch so an seine Grenzen gestoßen.

great platform to optimize already made scheduling scenarios, but the part of creating schedules from scratch could be more practical.

Platform complexity. We would like something more practical. The creation of schedules becomes more time-consuming in Optibus.

A plataforma Optibus possibilita que o planejamento e organização do serviço sejam realizados de uma forma muito mais prática e visual, diminuindo significativamente as chances de ocorrerem erros operacionais e otimizando o tempo da equipe.

Cons:

Por mais que a plataforma seja excelente em otimizar as tabelas dos motoristas e a frota operacional, separadamente, ainda não há uma forma de trabalharmos com as duas otimizações em conjunto, elencando uma definição de uma parte, que influencie a otimizadão da outra.

A Optibus está evoluindo

A experiência com a Optibus melhora a cada dia, principalmente devido ao suporte ofertado. Outros aspectos que poderia melhorar: no módulo programação na visualização das viagens, seria legal podermos mover as viagens pra ver como poderia se comportar. No módulo planejamento, poderia ter um template com o custo com base no cálculo tarifário do Brasil.

O que mais gosto na Optibus é o módulo de programação, pois é mais fácil de pré visualizar o que acontecerá com a frota e é possível também ver se tem erros no cadastro.

Cons:

Mesmo utilizando algum tempo a plataforma, ainda sinto a necessidade de contatar a Optibus para cadastrar novas preferências para testes internos, isso não chega a ser um problema, pois o suporte é muito prestativo, principalmente com o [conteúdo sensível escondido], mas creio que a plataforma poderia melhorar as traduções para deixar os planejadores menos dependentes.

Very slow gantt and timeplan

Cons:

Very slow speed all the time. Always crashes halfway. Takes very long to load. System cannot handle even 20 routes. Timeplan takes very long to adjust

Pros:

What used to take days or even weeks to optimize schedule, can now be completed in a few seconds to 1 minute. This enables to prepare different bus schedules as many times as needed - and play with the system - until you get the best route schedule. The algorithms and calculations take into consideration the local regulations for buses and drivers, and provides the best optimal solution - at the lowest cost/resource use. The ROI is almost immediate - sometimes as long as one month! So, bus operators can see savings right from the beginning.

Cons:

Looking forward to real-time solution, that is said to be out by the end of 2017. With real-time solution, traffic jams or schedule changes can be taken care of immediately. The "optibus onschedule" only provides a solution for planning bus schedules inn advance.

Scheduling made fast and easy

I've been using Optibus OnSchedule for the last year to create our quarterly operational schedule. The ease of use and speed is nothing like i've seen before, which allows me to test many different alternative during the scheduling process as well as modify the plan due to annual changes.
