Zmanda , look nowhere else for your backup solution

Overall, very satisfied. Whenever i have run into any issue the Zmanda support staff was always timely and competent is assisting.

I have been using Zmanda for many years. Does a great job of performing backups. The ease of use and comfort knowing that the backup and restore capability is there is comforting.

Cons:

There are a alot of little hooks that you will come across. It will help you better understand the product

Great team!

We have been using Zmanda Enterprise for backups. We are still in the process of figuring out how to customize the setup for our (very) specific needs. Along the way the team has been great to work with and has spent time helping with any bugs, explaining errors, and adding necessary features so we can continue to transition from our old backup software to Zmanda Enterprise. Their effort has helped to keep our backups rolling!

The team and customer support has been great. They have been available to help every step of the way.

Cons:

Because we are likely not the "normal" customer, there were some features that were not available in the original release. BUT, we have been working to tailor this product to our needs and the team has been a huge help to incorporate our needs into future releases and to help us with (sometimes difficult and advanced) customizations.

Reasons for switching to Zmanda

We wanted a better interface and to achieve full automation and monitoring.

7 Months using Zmanda

So far it has felt like I bought into a product that was not fully developed at first but is getting better every few months. It has met our organizational backup needs at a great price point.

Pros:

Zmanda Pro Backup is extremely cost effective especially considering the customization options provided. So far, the backup has worked well and consistently done what it is supposed to without the need for daily inputs from IT.

Cons:

Download sizes on backup runs. Poor product design to have so much data downloaded for even a minimal backup size. Also, the online interface can be buggy and tends to randomly quit from time to time.

Support from [sensitive content hidden], is always great. No issues, gets to the bottom of my fault quickly.

Cons:

My support came about because I wanted to upgrade to AE 3.3.9 to 3.6. It was available on your site to download for Solaris, but it failed to work. I was informed that 3.6 is now NOT supported on Solaris.

The server ran on Solaris X64, and supported clients of the same OE.

Pros:

Zmanda is extremely versatile, but also simple to use. Beyond normal backups, there was an instance when I needed to spin up a staging server. Instead of spending hours reconfiguring a server from scratch and trying to match it to my production environment, I used Zmanda's Linux Disk Image backup feature to create an exact copy. (This doubled as a DR drill... so it was great to see how easy it was to use) The coolest thing for me was that my prod server is a cloud instance, but I restored the image directly to a locally hosted Hyper-V environment. There are also options to restore directly to VMware and to physical hardware.

Cons:

I said it was simple before, but there is a little bit of a learning curve before I felt that way. Zmanda uses some concepts like "backup users" that aren't present in other backup software that took some time to get used to.

Get off with a better sleep knowing Amanda Pro is doing a steady reliable job!

The Zmanda Team went the stony path showing me with great patience how to setup and use Zmanda Pro. The migration was done quickly, no sweat. I would not wanna miss this important service in our IT environment!

The performance it does backup/recovers is amazing. Also the deduplication/compress algorithm is amazing. I save about 80% of space which allows me to increase the retention time big time!

Cons:

It's hard to find the restore area. Normally you would look for this area in moments of stress and pain, having the breath of grim looking blokes behind you who are waiting for their files to be restored ....

It allowed us to compress the backup data to reduce the storage space required for backup.

Cons:

It only supports MySQL database, for others we have to look for another Backup Manager.
