About Oracle Data Access Components

ODAC is an Oracle connectivity solution that has been actively developed and supported since 1998. ODAC comes with full documentation, demo projects, and fast technical support by the ODAC development team.
The goal of ODAC is to enable developers to write efficient and flexible database applications. The ODAC library is implemented using optimized code and advanced data access algorithms. Component interfaces undergo comprehensive performance tests and are designed to help you write thin and efficient product data access layers.

Direct access to server data. Does not require the installation of other data provider layers (such as BDE and ODBC)
In Direct mode does not require Oracle client software and works directly through TCP/IP

Very stable, never had a problem with the connection of Delphi with Oracle ! Fast !!! Easy to understand, learn, use it ! Well documented !

Cons:

No problem, i think i would like more automated procedure to install ODAC with Fast Reports

Best way to access Oracle databases

We've been developing our applications with these components for 20 years. They eliminate the need to install the Oracle client.

The components have been working smoothly in our applications for more than twenty years and is very compatible with Oracle database.

Cons:

I can’t say any cons because i not Meet cons. There are too few C++Builder examples in the component help.

It features easy API calls for creating, managing, and querying Oracle database objects from several programming platforms. I used it with PHP and C#.Net but can also be used in Java, C++, and Python.

Cons:

It takes some time to grasp the concepts so the steep learning curve is a bit restrictive for students and beginners.

Reasons for choosing Oracle Data Access Components

Since the main focus is still prototyping Delphi is still preferred but not a must. Compared to other Oracle data access component packages or libraries ODAC is very complete. But depending on the Delphi version installed I still use Allround Automations DOA as a gotten to love relic from the past originally introduced to figure out connection issues with PL/SQL Developer and kept for very much the same reason with SQL Detective and in both cases to investigate loading masses of data into a TDataset descendent plus grids & co. Rewriting existing tools is rather useless but making them work and offering a well educated guess concerning the reason or finding the real cause in advance helped these days, because most tools didn't provide precise environment reports (long long time ago). ODAC is ok and SmartyQuery and such things I still love to a certain degree and the dialog boxes for queries on datasets is good and last but not least the DataSet Manager. In my area Delphi was never an option for developments in industries or similar scenarios and Oracle Java connectors or the .net Connector was required. More relaxed scenarios didn't exist or were already covered by so called standard software.

ODAC Evaluation - Excellent

Very challenging to switch from FireDAC due to lack of full compatibility.

Direct access without the need for OCI and SSH tunnel connection

Cons:

t's not entirely compatible with FireDAC, requiring adaptation and even preventing any migration of existing Delphi software already created using FireDAC. Apparently, it does not provide a means to connect to Oracle Autonomous Database (security/tls) in the form of direct access.

Reasons for choosing Oracle Data Access Components

I chose ODAC because it seems to be more robust and eliminates OCI and the tunnel, which are not available in FireDAC, for small applications, due to ODAC's incompatibility with FireDAC.

Reasons for switching to Oracle Data Access Components

I attempted to migrate from FireDAC, but it was laborious and encountered many errors due to incompatibility.

In the program I developed with Delphi XE, I integrated it as a Component that is very compatible with Oracle database. I've been using more than 2. I am very pleased. Easy setup. Easy integration.

Cons:

As a software developer working in Turkey, the USD price is high. Other than that, I have no problems.
