Good tool for DB conversion

Overall good tool. Most of the conversion was seamless except for a few stored procedures.

Best and most intelligent tool in the category

Ispirer is the best tool we found in the Database migration category. It does not just blindly do the pattern based migrations and rather applies good intelligence in doing so. With the awesome support from Ispirer team, we were able to customize some rules to our liking and it delivered perfect results. Using the flexibility offered by the tool, we were able to migrate databases with thousands of objects, with good speed through CLI options. The best part is that once the configurations are tried in test environments, we could simply breeze through our Production migrations without any extra efforts. The proactiveness of the Ispirer sales team and responsiveness of technical team made it a perfect DB migration experience. One thing which can be improved is speed of data migration, when BLOBs are present with high data volume. In general, for migration of couple of hundreds GBs of data (without strict downtime requirements) tool can be of help.

Ispirer tool review on converting Oracle pl/sql to Teradata USP

1. Tool is very user friendly to operate and installation is quick and easy2. Customization is easy to meet the project requirements without affect the other functionalities 3. Good for simple code conversions

Cons:

1. Complex functionalities (Ex. handling multiple cursors, variable data types, batch processing and dynamic SQLs and updates) are not addressed in code conversion which lead to more manual efforts2. Support team was expecting equivalent solution in Teradata for Oracle functions which were not converted properly in the beginning

migrating from sql server to postgresql

mainly the technical assistance provided by Inspirer staff, then the easy use of the tool to migrate both the structure, the database objects and the data

Cons:

The price, we are not a software development company and we only use the tool once, if you can consider an amount to be able to use this tool for two weeks.

Db2 to Postgres conversion for procedure, functions and triggers

Overall it was good experience using this tool and all our procedures, functions and triggers got converted successfully.

Pros:

Ispirer has pre-assessment tool which really helps to get the exact idea about the conversion and the costing. The conversion tool is very easy to install and use. We had to do some customization and some changes in the tool as some of the procedures were not getting converted properly. Ispirer team was very helpful and providing fixes time to time.

Cons:

It was all good and i don't have anything to add here.

PostgreSQL migration success

Pros:

Our migration from MSSQL server to PostgreSQL was facilitated by ISpirer. We are very happy and content with the support we got from ISpirer. We had some SQL Server specific constructions in our database, like the use of HiearchyIDs for instance, that simply do not exist in the PostgreSQL world. But ISpirer helped us work around this, by writing a customization that, in this case, leverages the use of the PostgreSQL function ltree. Another thing we encountered is that the migration was initially quite slow. It turned out we were not using the native mssql drivers in our DSN. After specific instructions from ISpirer the duration of a migration was reduced from 8 hours to 20-30 minutes. Because we have hundreds of databases that need to be migrated, automating the whole process was key for us. ISpirer helped us achieve just that, through their excellent tooling, customizations, and support.

Cons:

The migration was quite slow when using the wrong ODBC driver. It could have been more clear that that would be the effect when choosing a DSN.

The conversion software simplified our Oracle to SQL project and reduced the amount of work we had to do. The company provided exceptional customer service and felt like an extension of our team.

Cons:

The software was easy to install and Ispirer provide customizations where the tool was initially unable to convert some of our stored procedures.

Pros:

Simply to use UI. No configuration required. UI has live updates on progress, you're not concerned it's stuck somewhere and actually has already crashed.

Cons:

Pricing not available upfront. I understand that their business model is quota based so they need estimate of how you will use it, but they could provide a chart of rough costs so you can know what you might need to expect

Reasons for switching to Ispirer

I tried using a bunch of other tools, most of them were open-source CLI tools, the few tools that were available for purchase had terrible demos or just didn't convert things correctly
