About Class for Web

Blackboard Collaborate is an online collaborative learning solution designed primarily for elementary and high schools, higher education and government facilities.

Blackboard Collaborate offers a browser-based web conferencing tool to facilitate interaction between instructors and students. It has a classroom chatter feature that offers a chatting platform for students to share text, audio and video content.

The interactive whiteboard feature displays PowerPoint slides for engaging multiple participants with a single presentation. Whiteboard content can be added or edited directly from Blackboard Collaborate without opening PowerPoint.

Users can personalize their profiles with pictures, videos and other content to facilitate communication. Blackboard Collaborate allows users to share PowerPoint and PDF files with classes without any additional software required.

The solution can be integrated with Blackboard Learn to provide a complete learning management system (LMS).

    Pros:
I like the record feature and all the basic video conferencing extras like screen/app share and chat.
    Cons:
It takes a long time to render the MP4 file if you record. Also, I really don’t like that its only meant to work on Google Chrome. This confuses students and users when they don’t see the options they need and it’s always due to the browser. The cost is way to expensive when you can get more stable products like Zoom or Google Hangouts.

    Pros:
The integration of Blackboard Collaborate with the Blackboard LMS makes it very easy to conduct video chat sessions with course participants for the sake of online lecturing, tutorial sessions, or office hours. Collaborate has more or less all the features available in dedicated video conferencing tools such as Zoom or MS Teams with the ease and flexibility of using it from within the Blackboard LMS.
    Cons:
Some performance lagging in voice has been experienced on slow network connections. The number of participants is not the cause of this but probably the media tuning algorithms to smooth the lags cause by intermittent Internet connections.

    Pros:
Blackboard Collaborate is super easy to use in teaching students. Students are apprehensive at first but the tools are simple to use and they are comfortable after a short time. Fun to use as a teaching tool. Used for meetings as well, interactive.
    Cons:
Had some concerns with recording sessions and hsd to use main room to record. Figured out how to record in breakout room so all is well.

    Pros:
The software is suited for online classes. The software has what is described as two factors authentication prior to sharing sound and video
    Cons:
The bandwidth needed to participate on this platform is high therefore a strong network connection is needed to actively participate.

    Pros:
Great for large groups, has enough features to keep up with the competition including: breakout rooms which work great, screen sharing, whiteboard for demonstrations, moderating for a smooth meeting flow. It's somewhat easy to use, so that's always a plus.
    Cons:
My biggest problem is reliability and stability. The software has crashed on me quite often, even with a robust and very capable laptop. For a software that's supposed to make collaboration easy, these issues are big drawbacks for me, and it's why we switched back to our original software.

Reasons for switching to Class for Web

Just for a test run and see what it was like, but we switched back to Zoom!

    Pros:
It has the aspect of blackboard ultra, so if you paid blackboard ultra 7000 euros per year, then you can benefit paying 3000 euros more for the collaborate and have it all in one.
    Cons:
There are not good features in it, other newer platforms have more features, configurations, options and the price is a lot less.

Reasons for choosing Class for Web

I did not choose Blackboard Collaborate because of the low features and high price.

Reasons for switching to Class for Web

Because we need high quality software and lower price, that is why we stop paying blackboard collaborate and ultra.

    Cons:
I don't like the interface of Blackboard because it looks old and and very Web 1.0. To complete a function, you need to go through many clicks. It is also not intuitive to figure out how to build content.

Reasons for switching to Class for Web

This is what the university adopted. It was not my choice.

I really like the virtual classroom and the various tools it has to manage the sessions and interact with the participants, and know the internet connection that each participant has.
    Cons:
It is not a very easy platform to use, you have to understand it first or practice to master it. There are some tools that can be improved, such as screen sharing, permissions to record and manage the session (which others can't easily do), and fast connection to sessions.
