E2 Shop System Software


 

E2 by Shoptech Corporation is a manufacturing solution that offers scheduling, purchasing, shipping, customer management and accounting. It’s designed specifically for job shops, contract and a variety of make-to-order manufacturers.

E2 estimating allows users to create both "quickie quotes" and complex estimates on labor, overhead, material, etc., that can be faxed or emailed with attached drawings or pictures. These quotes can be automatically turned into orders, with no double entry required.

E2 automatically generates shipping labels and packing slips and then tracks shipments online to multiple shipping addresses. Its materials management module controls all components and parts, aligning the company's purchase needs with the entered orders, as well as tracking delivery and finding the best prices.

The contact management module helps shops ensure that everyone stays on the same page, from the shop floor to the end client. It also pulls in all business financials, so shops can manage payroll, accounts payable and receivable and general ledger from a single location, as well as using one of the 200 built-in reports for comprehensive analysis.

The support after the sale is very poor due to the lack of knowledge of the tech people. You can get a different answer each time when you call in depending on who you talk too.

Pros

At this point there are no pro's due to the fact that we have owned this software for 3 years and it is still not up and live.

Cons

We are not a job shop ( we again were lied to)and we were never told that it could not hold the data for our large assemblies and allow them all to show up on the page.

Have had shop tech for 9 years. For our basic needs it is very easy to use and navigate. Customer Service is very good at taking care of any issues we come across.

Cons

I don't like that when you enter a payable you can't see the address to compare to the Invoice. Companies move and update their remittance. Sometimes this is missed when entering a payable invoice.

This would work well if you are a landscaper or remodeling contractor that does a job once and never again. For the job shop that does repeat work or has to comply with customer changes, save you money.

Cons

They care not that it doesn't work for you. Save yourself a lot of money and aggravation and insist on a "MONEY BACK" guarantee if you are not satisfied.

E2 user for 13 years, sequel version. Most manufacturing companies hardly utilize more than 50% of an MRP/ERP, and don't put the effort to truly comprehend the system to ever fully utilize. In those cases, this would be a good system to use. It does a lot of muscle work for you if you use it right. If you are truly ok with simply letting their scheduling module spit out a generic schedule that is limited in work-ability, this would be a good system. The most updated version has more bells a whistles which is nice but for us was fundamentally lacking in real change and not worthy of the investment to upgrade - plus the fact it is an entirely new system where you would lose all your history was additionally disappointing.

Cons

The system has way too many issues. The purchasing module is as stagnant and rigid as it gets. No room for flexibility. The estimating module is also disconnected on very basic levels from the purchasing side. The scheduling module has not been updated in any sort of substantial way since the beginning and is entirely too slow to be of use if you actually want to actively manage your variables. It crashes a lot (and yes, we had it set up by them so no reason there). The support is BASIC. Within 1 year, I was more knowledgeable than the staff trying to help me with questions I had. Constant system issues where quantities duplicate on their own, or system crashes when running a report (which some of them take a really long time).

I suggest having a consultant on site for 1-2 days to get everything configured correctly. We did it on our own and had a consultant come in later to help us clean up.

Pros

The software itself is easy to use. They have excellent Support. There are lots of features and options.

Cons

Set-up can be difficult if you do not think things through thoroughly. You might have to go back and redo things again. Reports are very basic. They can be customized, but only through Crystal Reports. You will need the full version and some expertise. Otherwise you have to pay ShopTech for customization.

Pros

Simple to install and navigate. The system will allow tracking of many work centers at a variety of labor and overhead rates. With the use of actual cost (average inventory), one can get a reasonably accurate costing system, which is nearly impossible in small job shop environments. The accounting modules are adequate for small to medium size job shops or manufacturing organizations.

Cons

No automated interface to popular CAD software. Accounting GL may be limited to smaller business environments as financial statement consolidations are not possible in the normal sense, especially if inter-company activity exists. No direct integration of Inventory to the General Ledger requires manual posting of batch report results and may introduce additional errors due to these manual controls.

We have used E2 for 8+ years and it definitely is a step above excel sheets etc. However, we are having to move onto a new ERP because our company has outgrown E2.

Pros

I like E2, it is easy to use BUT not for a medium to large size company. It is also more for manufacturing only.

Cons

It is not flexible, cannot add fields, and customize to your business very well. When you do want to customize something, you pay a fee.

I love this software. The moment I was introduced to the software I was hooked. It can be overwhelming when you first try to implement it and get into using it everyday but the support staff are amazing. I have worked with both the E2 shop server based software and the new web based version and the web based is so easy to implement, and the fact that it is self maintained, helps for everyone who doesn't have a full time IT person and feels like they are technically challenged. Also it does not matter what size your shop is, if you want true accurate job costing, this is for you.

Pros

The ease of use and the mobility of the web version is amazing that you can have access any time, any where. Being able to use smart phones and tablets for data collection puts a terminal in every persons hand. No more taking time to go to a terminal to log in and out. Which was our number one complaint from employees when we first started using E2

Pros

The software supports all aspects of my business equally well and is intuitive, and relatively easy to learn.

Cons

Multi-level bills of material with different quantities generate a lot of confusion about parent part pricing. We don't subscribe to the annual support because it is extremely expensive.

This is just a comment and not a negative response...............I am working on the quality side of the business and would like to see some forms/templates available within the system pertaining to quality, i.e.
Control of Documents, Calibration, Internal Audit, Vendor evaluations, Customer satisfaction, Management review, etc....


Pros

I personally have only been using shop tech for a short time but I found it very user friendly right from the start. The other users here are very happy with it and also all of our customers and partners that are using the system also speak highly of it as well.

The ability to estimate, quote, and track job orders all the way through shipment. All of the documentation and history of the product/part is contained in a single system.

Pros

The ability to collect tons of data about our operation for metrics and evaluation. E2 Shop is now cloud based which means it can be accessed from anywhere and updates to the software are automatically done. It was easy to integrate a bar code scanner for quick data entry on the shop floor. The help manual is very extensive.

Cons

The flow and process is not always intuitive and takes some getting used to. Although the help manual is very extensive it still requires trial and error to make the software work as desired.

Peace of mind that what is being reported is accurate.

Pros

The ease of use is what I like the most. We were able to install and "run" with this program. We did NOT need a lot of extra reports or functions - the system already had what we needed and wanted built into it.

Cons

Just a couple of the quirks (tab vs enter on some screens). I do not like that the inventory issued to jobs does not deduct the GL balance. That is a manual entry that I do at the end of the month.

We use this system every day to manage our manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution activities.

Pros

Our company has utilized E2 for 18 years and I have been a user for 13+ years. It is a robust system. We have had virtually no downtime due to system related issues. We started with the MDB version and migrated to SQL about 7 years ago. No issues with either. The support team has always been superb - - easy to get a hold of and not in a hurry to hang up. I appreciate that.

Overall just a really good software package and a great company to deal with. If you invest in this software, do yourself a favor and get Crystal Reports and write your own reports for data retrieval. System is open to allow for this functionality and will make the use of the data even better.

Cons

The ability to customize is limited in regards to functionality. The company prefers to keep the backbone "vanilla" and I do understand it. However there are times that we could get a big gain from a tweak and we are just not able to get it done.

It's filling the need for quoting and job tracking, but only because it cost so much to purchase that we are unable to change at this time.

Pros

Allows you to track jobs from quoting to invoicing. You can add pictures and descriptions of the items to be built and track the quality of the item including the employee doing the work.

Cons

Doesn't integrate with all programs as promised; not able to edit wording on some documents that the program produces; not able to add a logo and address with ease; support gives you the run around IF you can reach someone when you call.

This program is very basic so if you learn how to use one part of the system you can learn how to use the other parts of the system because they all look the same

Cons

This software does not allow for any changes to be made, and if you want to make a change you have to pay hundreds of dollars to do so. It is very set in the way it was build and you cannot change anything to make it easier for your company. First the shop floor doesnt account for scraps, they assume you will remake them so if you have any scraps and want to throw them out and move on to the next step of production then it wont count that step as being done. Then the accounting is put into many steps and the system gets easily overcrowded. the general ledger is done in too many steps to be accurate. The system will not work for orders of more than one line because if you want to unprocess an order in a second line after the first one was shipped, you cannot. Youre stuck with this floating error in your system that you cannot get rid of.
I personally do not recommend this to anyone. The system isnt very helpful, i feel like you could organize your data much better even on excel sheets than this program does. Finally their customer support do not know anything, as an experienced user of this i call them and ask for help with some easier things and they cannot provide me with an adequate answer, then through trial and error on my own part I find what i was looking to accomplish. Overll I am very dissatisfied with this system;the way its run, the way its reports are made, and how easy it is to create errors but its nearly impossible and in some cases impossible to correct them.

We had E2 since 1998 it was an excellent software system. Sadly it is not so great anymore.

It works well keeping us up to date with financials, is okay but flawed at time keeping. Our front office has to spend 2 hours every morning adjusting it. You can tell which job an employee is clocked into. Routing and estimation works well if you are very experienced with a lot of machining and programming background. There are other software packages that don't require as much skill to use.

Pros

It is windows based software so it makes using it intuitively. The original modules work really well.

Cons

Tech support not being able to solve bugs in the system. Scheduling and Quality modules don't perform well and aren't intuitive at all. Our customer service representative is only interested in selling products and services not in helping us resolve performance issues with the system.

Bar Code scanning and routing and keeping track of orders.

Pros

Keeping track of orders and due dates. routing is a big plus to see where the next operation is for the part to be machined.

Cons

The time clock feature needs to be more secure for date entry. Anyone can clock in for any person. Finger print scanning is what we do to be more secure.

I like that it integrates with my UPS. That it will sync tracking numbers to my E2 when a customer calls for status it's only a click away.

The system is very versatile, and can be used for a multitude of industries doing different things. The customer support is unlike anything I have ever used. Every question has an answer before your phone call is over.

Pros

I like the customer support the most along with the systems ease of use. All screens are of similar background which makes learning the new modules much less intimidating.

Cons

The accounting module uses batch accounting which I find a hassle .. I like information flowing to the G/L instantly so I can view my bottom line and see how entries affect my companies financial position.

Advice to Others

Excellent software. Versatile. Great customer support.

Our E2 experience has been great since day 1. Shoptech was the only software company that we were looking at that sent a sales rep to our facility. We had looked at several others at the time and they all displayed their system via "Go to Meeting" scenarios. Rep brought the E2 package to our shop. He gave all of us an opportunity to "test drive" it. By far the most user friendly package we had looked at.
Once we purchased the software and had it installed, customer rep came to our shop for 2 days of hands on training. He was also very cooperative days and weeks after the fact to answer any questions we had as we navigated through the system. We have been using E2 for almost 4 years and it has enhanced our operation on many levels.
I would recommend E2 to anyone considering it.
Very functional, versatile and user friendly.

Found that the inventory is hard to keep accurate, and you have to go thru so many layers to fix the problem
