It was easy to install and setup in WordPress. Settings were easy to understand and I was up and running in a few hours.

Cons:

I had to install extra plugins like "math capture" which I would expected to be in with the plugin.

Pros:

Without doubt RCP is the backbone of my membership business. The main feature I love is the ability to have both individual memberships and organisational or group memberships. Setting up the payments etc was really easy as is managing the site and the business.

Cons:

Not much. It does what it says on the tin.

Buggy, terrible support - looking at alternatives

When we initially were looking for a membership plugin for a client, we bought Restrict Content Pro. It had a solid reputation, was featured packed and met our needs. The product itself was excellent, and the support we received from the previous developers, Pippin’s Plugins, was very good. Over time, since switching hands to iThemes (now SolidWP), the support level has noticably decreased, and now we've got a current serious issue that hasn't been resolved for months. While we understand that resolving technical issues can sometimes be a complex process, the lack of communication on their part is becoming really concerning. We have been patiently awaiting a resolution for months, but it's not reflecting well on my company, or the users of my clients website, who can't access their membership area as their membership expires randomly every now and again. We're looking at alternatives.

Great App, but Not for Everyone

Over the years I have been very satisfied working with Restrict. They are quick to answer your questions and have great customer service. But this is not the solution at this time if you have to collect sales tax or want to do business overseas where you are supposed to collect VAT tax. Their tax program doesn't even allow you to take overseas orders, let alone do VAT tax. The local tax wasn't even calulated correctly, and after 8 months of back and forth communication, it still isn't fixed.

Restrict has great customer service and just about everything you need to set up a membership site. I have been using it for many years.

Cons:

I had to start collecting taxes in Washington for digital downloads and subscriptions. Restrict said they had a solution, but the solution does not work properly. Their connector to Avatax does not allow you to take orders outside of Canada and the US, and the taxes are not calculated properly. The company they are connected to, Avalara, is the worse company I have ever worked with. Their customer service is the worst. They have a whole lot of people working in customer service who have no idea what they are talking about and you get the run around constantly. After many years I have had to give up on this app and am switching all my memberships to Easy Digital Downloads with an All Access Pass and recurring payments. EDD has a great tax solution connected to Quaderno that works amazingly. After working with Restrict for 8 months trying to get their tax connector to work, I have had to make the decision to change platforms. Avalara makes you sign a contract for a complete year, which you cannot get out of even if their tax program is calculating the proper tax because they blame it on Restrict. After many hours of wasted time and frustration, I have decided to find a better solution. I would not recommend this product until they have fixed their tax issues. They say that they have a tax solution, but it doesn't work.

Restrict Content- The SOLUTION!

We use Restrict Content Pro- in conjunction with Stripe- to manage our memberships to our subscription based website... we offer Monthly, Annual and Lifetime memberships- and discount codes to encourage enrollment- it works well- and we are very satistied!

We run a subscription based Website- that offers Premium video features for on line Education, Inspiration and Creativity- Restrict Content pro- provided the solutions we needed to engage our customers- and offer continued support and ongoing content delivery. There are options that allow for different levels of membership -and discount codes that have been extremely valuable to our audience. Restrict Content Pro offered the Solutions we needed- they are easy to work with and the result is very profitable!

Cons:

I haven't found any challenges so far that we could not overcome. Our website is challenging and has had many transformations and updates... since we have used Restrict Content Pro- we have less challenges, problems and can spend our time creating content- rather than maintenance of the website site memberships!

It was suggested by my Team- and they are the Best... RCP was suggested as the best solution... I don't waste time with inferior products or second best...I went with the #1 Recommendation!

Good features - Decent Support

So i know there’s some generalized feedback here but that’s mostly just because I have done massive edits to the plugin to customize it to my needs, which is really smooth, since it’s so well-built. And since I’ve done so many tweaks and such, it’s hard to really review fairly based on all my edits. But that said, if you need a plugin that lets you control who see what on your site, you found it. Definitely recommend.

Importing from excel works really good (granted I made a lot of custom changes to the plugin) - The customer dashboard page is nice and everything runs smoothly. - I lovvvve the multisite, I think it’s so underestimated how powerful this plugin can be.

Cons:

I don’t really have Alot of bad things to say about this plugin, it’s really a powerful plugin that’s quite capable for what’s its designed for. I guess if I had a complaint, it’d be the checkout process always takes forever to process (although I’m uncertain If it’s a stripe issue). - another complaint I’d have is the fact I couldn’t find a way to control what menu items are visible to logged in users vs public users, I’ve actually had to download a separate plugin just for that, which is sad.

Reasons for switching to Restrict Content Pro

UserMeta was a good start to this project, but it just couldn’t handle what I needed, after a short while, I quickly noticed it’s limits and it wasn’t made for what I was trying to do. - I’m glad I found RCP :)

Webhooks with Stripe do not work

Really bad, just terrible customer service, no accountability from their team, and very little in the way of constructive communication.

It integrates with Wordpress pretty easily and has some out-of-the-box features that would be costly to develop ourselves.

Cons:

When subscribers cancel on our website, the information isn't sent to Stripe, so the subscribers get charged repeatedly by Stripe even though they've already canceled. Then they dispute their payments and force chargebacks, which are super costly. When I brought this up to RCP, they said it was my fault for not installing the webhooks correctly. And they wouldn't cover the cost of the chargebacks. When I integrated the Stripe webhook, the issue kept happening. Then RCP (now iThemes) told me that we needed to upgrade the RCP plug-in to fix the issue. Again, no offer to credit our account or pay for the chargebacks from angry subscribers. Just a terrible overall experience and product. Also, there is no phone support at all. So you have to wait on emails even when it's an urgent matter with their product. So incredibly annoying. I'm looking to find an alternative now.

Solid and simple solution for membership websites

I like the simple set up and the reliability of the software.

Cons:

Some functions are not that easy to implement, and it lacks some control over elements that should be customisable. For example, we should be able to add/customise fields for invoices. There are other things I wish I could do with it, but I'm not going to list them all here.

Reasons for choosing Restrict Content Pro

It started of course with some research online for the best solutions available. Our final choice was based on several key points: some solutions were offering too many options for what we were looking for, which would have probably translated into a heavy plugin. We tried some a few solutions and decided to go with Restrict Content Pro at the end. The price was also a deciding factor, we use it for a non-profit website and didn't want to be trapped into a yearly subscription. The fact that we could buy the ultimate solution was a good solution for us, we don't have to think about yearly payments and will have an updated and robust plugin as long as the site is alive.

Great Solution for Membership Sites on WordPress

Overall, I'm happy with the product and I'm pretty sure it's the best option at the moment out there.

Pros:

Very easy to set up recurring subscriptions with Stripe and different membership levels. You can restrict access to posts, categories & pages, etc.

Cons:

I still haven't figured it out yet but sometimes certain posts or pages won't be available to members even though the category and the page both say they should be available. Worked a workaround, but should just work. Also, there it's difficult to give a discount off a total price if you are breaking it up into a 2 pay or a 3 pay. Example: You have a $1500 product, and want to do a special of $500 off and split the payments in two. No way of doing that with a discount code. You have to make a special page for just the $1000 2 pay deal.
