    Pros:
Alma is an all-in-one platform for managing private practice. They help you get credentialed with insurance companies, publish your profile and match you with potential clients, provide a portal including assessments, treatment plans, case notes, etc., and even process billing for you. Additionally, they connect you to a robust network of therapists through community conversations, case conferencing, and other events to make private practice a community role. They also offer continuing education courses. For everything there is to gain using Alma, their monthly fee is completely reasonable.
    Cons:
As a clinician, I have no complaints. However, if a client were to search for a counselor through Alma, I would imagine there are so many options they may struggle to find the right fit.

    Pros:
It is simple to onboard a patient and the session note-taking is very easy. The insurance processing is simple and straight to the point compared to other companies.
    Cons:
The payouts are a lot less compared to other similar companies. Additionally, they do not credential with many other insurance companies. Also, there is no way of accepting a Co-pay besides a credit card. They do not allow in-person or other virtual payments.

    Reasons for choosing Alma

I run both platforms due to the lack of insurance selections with Alma

Predatory Billing with promise to get practicioners paid Faster

Non-responsive to predatory billing amounts, or simple inquiries. Yes they have "FAQS" on website for simple inquiries, tested noticed no response regardless of subject line.

    Pros:
Nothing at all, predatory billing sevice for practictioners.
    Cons:
BEWARE: Alma over charges, without filing claims, to make patient aware of "patient responsible amount". The intial insurance verification co-pay seems a little high, but as a vulnerable mental health patient you agree, because you need help. After your appointment you are invoiced without CPT codes or itemization and it's generally almost 50% higher than estimated. Their patient billing practices are not transparent. After digging and reviewing CPT codes that caused the co-pay to increase drastically, charges are not aligning. When challenging or inquiring about billing through provider, you are directed to Alma, with no support phone number, only an email, in which rarely responds, claiming "high volume". Alma, promises leads, higher premiums, and faster payment collections for the Practioners. Which makes sense with the 50% increase of final invoice, and of course, because that blindsided high invoice amount must be paid to continue treatment. With or without a high deductible through a clients insurance, claims are not submitted, so how is this patient portion amount determined one may ask?

    Vendor Response

Alma offers eligibility checks to determine: 1) If a client’s insurance plan is in network with their therapist 2) Their estimated cost of care per session Once a claim processes, the client's health plan determines their final cost of care. At that time, Alma must honor the health plan’s decisions on a client’s benefits. Claims can take 45-60 days to process. We recommend clients are familiar with their benefits by contacting their insurance carrier directly. Our support team is here to help providers and their clients navigate their insurance billing questions. We can be reached by email at support@helloalma.com, where providers and clients can also schedule a call with a member of our team.

Worth it if you have enough Clients

    4

I have had some really positive customer service experiences, but there are also times that can be frustrating when Clients' rates suddenly change or they owe more than told previous. I understand a lot of that is more of a concern involving insurance, but Alma's response is not always helpful or the most fair to all involved.

    Pros:
I really appreciate that they allow for multi-state credentialing and makes taking insurance a lot easier than if I were to try and credential on my own. The continuing education can be great at times too.
    Cons:
The cost of Alma is something I continue to evaluate with Headway now also offering multi-state credentialing. Some of the insurance pay out rates are a little higher, but Headway is able to match the insurance carriers I care about. Other insurance pay out rates are just too low.

    Reasons for choosing Alma

I use both depending on what company provides the referral. I will say though that Alma I am more likely to get referrals though (although this has slowed a lot recently and the calendar/consultation requirement is not my favorite).

    Reasons for switching to Alma

Because of the need for multi-state credentialing, but now they offer that too.

    Pros:
The main feature I like about Alma is being able to have a 3rd party system bill insurance so I can focus on doing what I love best which is serving my clients. I like being paid every week and knowing how much I'm paid.
    Cons:
What I don't like is the low amount of clients that come in. I average about 1 client every 3 months. I didn't receive my tax information even though I did email support about it.

    Reasons for switching to Alma

I wasn't receiving any referrals and my clients were struggling with the insurance.

    Vendor Response

Hi Patricia, thank you for sharing your experience and feedback. If the tax issue hasn't been resolved please reach out to support@helloalma.com; we've made the team aware of your situation and are prepared to help you. Pros:
As a sole practitioner in private practice, I very much appreciate the support Alma provides in front office and in claims submission.
    Cons:
It would be great to have Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a participating insurance Carrier as a number of potential clients in the states I am licensed have this carrier and I think referrals would be more plentiful, and I think that contributes to the low number of referrals I get per month.

    Reasons for switching to Alma

Valant would not assist me with credit card processing and onboarding was a nightmare.

    Vendor Response

Hi Hope, thank you for sharing your experience and feedback! We are always actively looking at expanding our insurance program and BCBS is on our radar. If you feel like your referrals are low please reach out to us by emailing support@helloalma.com so we can set up a 1:1 session and help with that. Thank you for your continued support!
