About DaVinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve is an on-premise video editing software designed to help professionals and new users streamline image processing, audio editing, 3D audio workflows, and more. Key features include non-linear editing, smart editing, advanced color corrector, cinematic visual effects, audio post production, and smart metadata management.

Teams using DaVinci Resolve's edit page can manage editing for larger projects such as television shows, feature films, commercials, streaming, documentaries, and more using context-sensitive automatic trimming tools, customizable keyboard shortcuts, drag and drop editing, and a library of titles, effects, and transitions that can be added and animated according to individual requirements. Additionally, the cut page enables professionals to edit multicam programs and create synchronized cut aways.

The color page of DaVinci Resolve allows users to adjust temperature, midtone detail, contrast, saturation, and more using a wide range of primary and secondary color grading features, such as qualifiers, PowerWindows, advanced HDR grading tools, and others.

high powered professional video editing software... for free!

5

I enjoyed using DaVinci Resolve, although at this point I have decided to move back to Final Cut Pro as I am more familiar with the software and interface. DaVinci resolved has allowed me to create high quality videos for free which was a necessity as my budget did not allow for the purchase of Final Cut Pro for some time. I use the software to make YouTube videos, Instagram reels and other forms of social media video content as well as filming eCourses.

Pros:
The best thing about DaVinci Resolve is that it is a free software. It is extremely rare to find such a powerful professional grade software available for free. It is worth noting that not all features are available in the free version, although essentially every necessity is available. This is not iMove or Windows Movie Maker. This is actual world class editing software available for you to download today. There is a significant learning curve though, so if you are already used to another software, the time investment to learn a new software may not be worth your while. i.e, if you will easily use up over $299 of your time to learn this software in a basic way, so if you're already a master at Final Cut Pro, it would make more sense to pay the $299 to purchase it.
Cons:
In general, there are not many cons to this software. It has everything I could ever think of needing to make high quality video edits and much more than I'd ever use. The learning curve is probably the most difficult thing about using this software. It isn't as user friendly as Final Cut Pro, for example, but if one takes the time to do the necessary tutorials or takes a course, they will overcome that difficulty in due time.

Reasons for choosing DaVinci Resolve

Ultimately the free price tag was what prompted me to choose Resolve. It's a great option for newbies or people who need a cheap solution for their business.

Reasons for switching to DaVinci Resolve

I learned FCP in college. I did not have the budget to purchase it as a business expense, so I utilized the free version of DaVinci Resolve. FCP is still my personal preference, but Resolve is an excellent option overall that I'm sure I'd have no issue with using had I learned and practiced with it as much as I have with FCP

Complicated, Powerful Editing Software

4

DaVinci Resolve is a fantastic editing tool for anyone looking for a free solution. You won't have all of the features, but you'll have enough. The color correction tools are fantastic as well. However, it's a pretty complicated software and takes a while to get used to if you're used to Premiere.

Pros:
It's free, has great editing capabilities, and the color correction is way better than Adobe's.
Cons:
It's pretty complicated in some parts and requires a steep learning curve. I've also ran into glitches.

Reasons for choosing DaVinci Resolve

I still use Premiere, but DaVinci is way better at color correction, so I typically use it for that.

Davinci's a powerful program that can edit in 8k, but do you need all that?

3

It's a tough sell for me being a "weekend warrior" with a lot of other "non editing" stuff to do as it takes time to learn as well as the actual editing.

Pros:
I like that even in the free version you can edit in a resolution that most people don't even have in their living room. The 30k or whatever the paid version has was overkill for me but the color correction alone practically pays for itself because it will fix any kind of lighting mistake and i mean any. Next best thing are the graphics and sound effects which are far superior to anything else on the market.
Cons:
I found it has a steep learning curve if you haven't been around for the previous 16 to 17 versions. Even the tutorials need tutorials, its ridiculous!

Reasons for choosing DaVinci Resolve

I wanted the power of creating a flashy promo in high def.

Reasons for switching to DaVinci Resolve

I wanted more action in my promos, the graphics are what sold me and are also what frustrate me to know end when my computer bogs down.

Pros:
Very fully featured, powerful and really great value for money. The full studio version is a one off cost without an ongoing subscription.
Cons:
Nothing to say against Resolve. It's just as good, if not better, than software costing many times as much.

Reasons for choosing DaVinci Resolve

The price and performance really sold it for me.

Reasons for switching to DaVinci Resolve

Performance and cost far exceed Adobe Premiere.

Pros:
A lot of advanced and essential tools available on the free version. Supports most video and audio codecs. Heaps of export options.
Cons:
Some basic things are harder to find or are more time consuming to do, compared to Vegas Pro. Some videos and audio will fail to import without explanation.

Reasons for switching to DaVinci Resolve

VEGAS Pro's performance is poor, and the software isn't advanced enough for the cost.

DaVinci Resolve giving you Hollywood style Results.

5

Its one of the leaders in video creations and the results speak for themselves. This is why the experienced video creators use this tool. The free version can give you the experience to learn through the many tutorials available before purchasing the paid version. There is a excellent training video on utube that is a must see for anyone interested in starting out.

Pros:
DaVinci Resolve is one of the best video creation tools around, however you need to have previous experience in video creation to use it. This is a advance video creation system, from colour grading, project creation, and a wide selection of features that gives Hollywood style results. The customer support gives a large tutorial library that does require a lengthy learning period, while the value for money is also excellent, there is a free version that is easily uploaded, or the Davinci Studio which gives you more fancy features at a one time payment of around $500 all upgrades after are free. Like a lot of systems you can add a security password to protect all your work.
Cons:
Has a lengthy learning curve, but the results are Hollywood style quality. The advance version being Davinci Studio with a much large selection of features available is a reasonably cost but at a one time payment with a life time upgrades for free the initial cost out weights the amount you are receiving.

Cons:
There was a steep learning curve at first, particularly with color grading tools, so it took some time to unleash its power.
