Easy to use

5

I started using Camtasia in the early 20 teens. It was a struggle because I was new to learning tools like this. I have used others, but remained with Camtasia. When updated versions came out they did not interrupt my ability to work or cause problems as updates can sometimes do. The tutorials make learning easy as they are clear and concise. And there are many of them!

Pros:
Ease of use always!!! Even if I don’t use it for awhile when I return to using it there’s no huge learning barrier to become reacquainted. Second would be price. It was not cost prohibitive like some others.
Cons:
I don’t have anything. There are no dislikes from me.

Camtasia Can Be a Better Fit than More Expensive Video Editors

5

Camtasia has always exceeded my expectations. It's way more powerful than people might expect, I know quite a bit about Camtasia but I totally admit there are more some features I haven't learned yet how to use but I know they exist and when I need them I know they will be there. TechSmith is also a really great company to work with, they really care about their products and making them better.

Pros:
1) The hot spot feature, it's something other tools just don't have. 2) Camtasia has pre-built features that other tools don't have, you can just do things much faster in Camtasia than what it takes me to do in Premiere and Final Cut. 3) TechSmith has made a lot of smart decisions by creating a video editor that most people can learn how to use in a short amount of time. Albeit that Camtasia is not the most advanced video editing platform but it doesn't have to be, it's perfect for the average person who needs to do some video editing. This is why I love Camtasia, I can ramp up new video editors quickly. Even my advanced video editor now sings the praises of Camtasia, he complained at first but now even he sees the light.
Cons:
We have pushed Camtasia to where it breaks with too many layers, yes I know the workarounds but this could be improved upon. I'm a little concerned about the EOL of the HTML output, please don't lose that feature because it's super important for the hot spot feature.

Reasons for switching to Camtasia

Several reasons, 1) I know longer have the powerful desktop machine I used to have. 2) I needed something that others could easily learn, tools like Adobe Premiere and Apple Final Cut are high-end video editing tools and their learning curve and system requirements are too high for the average person. I love those tools too but Camtasia makes more sense for how it's being used in my company.

Simple, easy to learn, trustworthy

5

It's been very useful and easy to learn, I've used it a lot and also recommended it. It is not overly expensive but there are less expensive (and even free) apps around with the same capabilities, so a free version with fewer options and pay-per-addons would be a great alternative.

Pros:
It is easy to learn, produces high-quality videos and has lots of effects already included that make the job faster. It has all the basic functions and some advanced ones and it has a great interface.
Cons:
Even though it has lots of effects already included, if you do the same type of video again and again the selection becomes limited. The recorder only produces a huge file that needs to be opened in Camtasia and then exported, which makes long recordings very hard to manage. And, if the videos are too big, the software becomes jumpy, which doesn't happen with the same set of videos on a different editor.

Reasons for switching to Camtasia

Because it is super hard to work with and learn and Adobe has become absurdly expensive for a freelancer.

Pros:
It creates excellent screen recordings and is user-friendly. In addition, audio editing and accurate captions are a plus.

Camtesia is very expensive, plus the company charges for the updated version. It also lacks the advanced editing capabilities you find in other software similar to it.

The Non-Corporate Enthusiast

5

I understand that further development has "corporate appeal" as its main aim. As a single user, a retired non-corporate user, I am not your principal focus. I am getting left behind as recent upgrades reflect corporate rates ($$$$) The program is of great value but upgrade costs for features that I don't use are quickly separating me as a future user. And that would be a shame.

Pros:
Camtasia is used frequenty, every week, but often daily. More than a hobbiest, it is a principal tool in my video editing toolbox.
Cons:
I am not a fan of the available navigation tools for timeline editing, but with frequent use, I have my workarounds. I would not want to be without the program.

Reasons for switching to Camtasia

Final Cut complexity and cost was outreaching my needs. Camtasia had just the right capabilities and was in a modest pricing window that offered exceptional value for the money

Pros:
I love how easy it is to use. People who knows zero about video edition or Camtasia can use it within minutes of tutorials. It's a powerfull tool that I use about 10 years already and can see how improved it is.
Cons:
The cost, but it's a local problem, because for us in Brazil is a high cost. But overall, it worth the pay.

Reasons for choosing Camtasia

Cost and easiness to use it. And my previous knowledge about it.

Easiest Video Editor - some features need work.

4

I have switched to other video editors. They're either overly complicated (too feature-rich) or too expensive. Some are too simplistic. Camtasia continues to be the easiest to learn, use, and deploy videos. Regardless of whatever tools I try, I keep coming back to Camtasia.

Ratings Breakdown

Pros:
Camtasia is intuitive. It's pretty easy to understand how to get samples into the editor, how to cut scenes, how to stack videos and audio. There are a lot of audio and video effects that are obvious as to how to use them and what they do. The barriers to entry are very low. And it's a decent price for the capabilities.
Cons:
The new "Background Removal" is not great (moving around causes flickering). A long-time complaint is a lack of Video Titling. No easy way to time-reverse a snippet. Chromakey (remove color) doesn't work well.

Reasons for switching to Camtasia

Camtasia is less expensive and easier to use.

If You're Serious About Video You Need To Get Camtasia

Pros:
The best thing I like about Camtasia is that it always stays up to date with video creation trends, so that you can always create relevant videos.
Cons:
If there's a failing, it's simply the learning curve. But really, that's not a failing. It's only because there are so many cool features that it can take a while before you get into the swing of video creation. Once learnt though, it becomes a breeze.

Reasons for choosing Camtasia

I chose Camtasia because it was a true video creation system and I knew it would be around for a long time.

Pros:
It's optimized for creating videos in which screen recordings of software usage predominate.
Cons:
Little things, like the inability to reverse a clip (i.e. play it backwards on the timeline). The ability to export the audio to an external program, edit it there, then bring it back in, would be amazing too.

Reasons for switching to Camtasia

A colleague at an old employer heard me say I wanted to use Premiere Pro for a project and he told me I'd work a lot less hard and get it done in a lot less time if I tried Camtasia. I did, and I was sold on it in minutes.
