About Grasshopper

Grasshopper is a cloud-based virtual phone service that helps small to midsize enterprises establish communication with customers through local and toll-free numbers. It provides several modules, including call forwarding, multiple extensions and official messaging, which enables users to run businesses through mobile and desktop apps.

The software allows firms to automate transcriptions and email delivery across sites. The cloud phone module of the product enables enterprises to manage messages without additional costs of hardware. Further, the software provides incoming call control and customizable greetings to welcome clients when they call in.

Grasshopper comes with additional services such as vanity numbers, portability, on-hold music and voicemails via emails. It is available on a monthly subscription basis and extends customer support via documentation, email and phone.

Costly, But Lots of Features

Overall, I was highly pleased with the quick onboarding process. It took less than 30 minutes to have the app fully set up and my number activated. My business chose to go with Grasshopper primarily because it's a trusted and well-known name in VOIP. Grasshopper has enabled us to have a separate phone number for our business and adds a ton of convenience in that we are able to use it with their app on our smartphones.

Pros:

I like that, compared to its competitors, Grasshopper offers a wider variety of useful features. Some of my favorite features are visual voicemail, conference calling, Wi-Fi calling, virtual fax, and business texting. All of those features and more are included in all of their plans at no additional cost.

Cons:

There are only two things that I dislike about Grasshopper. The plan pricing is the first on my list. They offer three different plans; I have the cheapest one which costs $29 per month which includes the phone number plus three lines. Second, I dislike that in order to use the Wi-Fi calling feature, you must first disable the Wi-Fi calling feature if you already use it with your cellular plan.

Pros:

Grasshopper has been a great fit for our construction and home improvement business. It gives EmberBuild a professional image with a dedicated business number and call routing that makes sure client calls never get missed, even when we’re on job sites. The voicemail-to-email feature is especially helpful for tracking project inquiries and scheduling follow-ups quickly.

Cons:

The only drawback is a small learning curve when setting up custom greetings and voicemail flows. Once configured, it’s smooth, but a more visual setup tool would make it even easier.

I’ve been using Grasshopper for 2 years now and it’s been amazing! The app is super easy to navigate and unlike others it actually works!!

Cons:

It is a bit more expensive than others but being able to pay annually helps. Otherwise, I haven’t had any issues with it.

Grasshopper for Business, It's a YES

For the money this is a great product. I just wish a few things can get changed. But the fact I can send text messages from my work line is a huge plus.

Pros:

I love that I can use this on my cell phone. (Who wants to carry around two cell phones?) I can send text messages from my computer. Take screen grabs and move over to my client files for the COA.

Cons:

The web interface is very poor. I wish it were a cleaner look and feel. When I get calls and answer them, it takes 20-30 seconds for my phone to hijack the call.

GRASSHOPPER had FCC Anti Spam requirements that cost too much time!

It cost us so much to comply with the new requirements that the FCC had and the unclear instructions that it basically had more costs to it than benefits in terms of the time that it cost our small business.

That I was able to text and that I was able to get extensions dialed for different employees along with visual voicemail

Cons:

That I was not able to text due to Federal Communications Commission who had a ton of red tape for anti-spam requirements for 7 digit phone numbers, it took us months to modify our website and regain texting capabilities.

Pros:

I really like how easy Grasshopper makes it to manage business calls and messages from anywhere. The setup was simple, and I appreciate that I can use a dedicated business number without needing extra equipment. It keeps communication organized and professional, whether I’m in the office or on the go. The call quality has also been reliable so far.

Cons:

The only downside I’ve noticed so far is mostly related to small interface preferences. For example, the app icon and overall design feel a bit dated and could be more modern. It doesn’t affect functionality, but visually it could look cleaner. Other than that, I haven’t had any real performance issues to complain about.

Pros:

It was a fine until a couple of months ago. I had no issue before.

Cons:

They made the app much much worse and also increased the price. I have to login by email to the program every time I want to see who called me, which I didn’t need to do before. Extremely inconvenient. Now I need to look for a different provider. Also, the texting function has never worked
