About IconCMO

IconCMO is a cloud-based church management solution that allows administrators to manage membership data, communications with member and volunteers, member contributions, accounting and payroll.

Membership management feature helps users to organize and record member information, schedule pastoral visits and archive records in order to maintain historical data. Users can manage groups by communicating through email and text messages in order to send reminders and last minute updates.

Fund accounting module helps to manage multiple funds and track credit card expenses using checkbook management function. With the help of this module, users can create a budget in order to manage revenues and expenses. It also helps in recording payments, generation of invoices and printing deposit slips.

Payroll feature allows users to customize paid time off adjustments, set multiple pay options on the basis of duration and generate reports for the purpose of filing forms on government websites. Support is available via phone and email.

Good for my church

The membership component interfaces easily with the contributions component. I hoped to use the groups component but that has not come to pass.

Pros:

It is very easy to get started with this software. And support is relatively easy. As admin, I could easily establish users for the system.

Cons:

Support is iffy. It depends on users to answer the questions for MANY questions. I would prefer to learn from those who set up the program.

Works very well for our needs

I moved our church database from the PC-based software to the cloud-based system shortly after becoming the office manager. It solved nearly every problem that we were encountering and allowed remote data entry as well as allowing users real-time access to information rather than waiting on me to have time to compile it. I have found the technical service team to be very responsive to questions and suggestions.

Pros:

The membership database is useful to church leadership in several ways. I like the ability to customize accessibility levels for different users and the ability to design our own reports.

Cons:

I wish there were a way to change the color scheme.

My overall experience with Icon has been very pleasant, so much so I'm still using their product! The support team has been extremely patient and kind to me as I struggled to learn their program and/or made stupid mistakes. The training is also done well and the program itself (online) hasn't experienced any issues to note.

Pros:

For the price it functions well to process contributions, A/P, and PR for our church needs.

Cons:

Some of the A/P processes are not easily amended, as I'd like (journal entries, memo info) but they have improved since I began using Icon. Nor does is the info lines allow for enough characters.

Reasons for choosing IconCMO

The main reason was price and that it accomplished what we needed. But also that another person in our church, who is also a church secretary and covers for me when I'm gone, knows Icon, so it made it an easy transition.

User Satisfaction

IconCMO is the primary accounting system for the Church. Spirit of Joy is a small congregation church, but IconCMO gives the church the benefit of a large church accounting at an affordable price. IconCMO has a large repertoire of reports.

Pros:

Ease of use and comprehensive features. As a secure cloud based system, Spirit of Joy does not have to worry about back up's or loss of data from failed local hardware. System access is available 24/7. Training and support has been great.

Cons:

I understand this is a fund based system. However, not being an accountant, I do not understand that when purchasing property or paying a liability such as a mortgage why the value of the property or mortgage liability remains in the fund, even though the Fixed Assets Property and Long Term Liabilities are adjusted. This makes the Statement of Financial Position and Budget Comparison w/Variance misleading without additional notes.

Efficient and effective

Very responsive and helpful even with accounting rules and guidelines that really isn't their job. Any question receives timely and patient responses with effective accounting standards built into the software.

Our buisness has enjoyed our experience. Having one central location for all types of administrative/client information is helpful and that each person on staff can access that information is key.

Pros:

I like that this software is a hub for all of the things our business needs. It is easy to use because of the way each area is categorized. It is also easy to update information. Multiple log-ins allow each staff person access and I can take this software on the go, too, which is important in today's fast-paced world.

Cons:

It took some time to be come familiar with the layout and how to access the information you are looking for.

Nothing should be this difficult!

Nothing should be this difficult is what church volunteers have told me about ICON. If you have a dedicated employee who can manage the system and provide reports to all, then maybe this system would work for you. We have an all volunteer group and expect each person to be able to access data. The learning curve is just too steep and the number of steps each task takes is not worth the end result. There are much easier to use ChMSs available. We've used ICON for 3 years and are in the process of changing to a more modern ChMS.

Customer support is first rate Data Export feature is useful because doing things in Excel is much easier that ICON

Cons:

Very cludgy, outdated system. Menus are all visible even if the user doesn't have access. They get errors when they try to access. Each and every user has to set up and re-run reports, there's no way to save a set up.

Pros:

Icon has a lot of features available that many larger congregations would use. Smaller churches, less than 300 members, may want something a bit more user friendly. Good value if you need reports on a regular basis tracking membership and demographics.

Cons:

Not user friendly. Certain features require multiple screens to be updated or reports will be skewed.

We use ICON CMO at our church, and it works pretty well for a small church like ours.
