TaxDome is a practice management platform that helps tax, accounting and bookkeeping firms, as well as CPAs and EAs, manage both internal processes (workflow, CRM, reporting, secure document storage) and client-facing activities (documents, signatures, invoicing, messages, proposals and engagement letters). Available on desktop or mobile for your firm and your clients.

TaxDome is the most intuitive cloud-based solution for practice management. This best-in-class software is accessible no matter how large or small your business is: use web or desktop software as well as mobile apps to run your practice remotely.

You can utilize built-in templates to handle tax returns, bookkeeping, payroll and other accounting processes. Cons:

Some things in the organizers and pipelines are limited and some of the templates could be better made.

Very happy with Taxdome

Overall, I have been very happy with Taxdome. They have been responsive to suggestions to improve the experience and I expect it will continue to get better.

Pros:

I love that I can see all of my clients information in one place (chats, emails, docs, etc). I also love that there is an app making it easy for clients to submit documents and initiate chats using their phones.

Cons:

I wish Taxdome would integrate with my Lacerte tax software and allow me to print directly into Taxdome rather than having the added step of printing to a folder then uploading to Taxdome.

Once the initial setup is complete, the value becomes very clear—and it extends far beyond cost savings. The true return is the time you regain after implementation. Building a more self-running firm creates the capacity needed to manage ongoing tax law changes and help clients adapt efficiently. That recovered time can then be reinvested into expanding service offerings, deepening client relationships, and developing higher-value services such as advisory and tax planning—ultimately moving the firm forward rather than just keeping up.

Pros:

TaxDome offers strong customer support and significantly improves productivity, making it a leading tax practice management platform. Many tax practices lack formal standard operating procedures (SOPs) unless they perform audits or are required to follow Quality Management standards. TaxDome helps fill that gap by encouraging standardized workflows, which in turn increases efficiency, consistency, and scalability across the firm.

Cons:

There is a significant learning curve and implementation hurdle. Many practices are looking for a simple, quick setup and are discouraged by the upfront time and effort required to implement new systems. Pre-built, in-house packages—such as accounting software with standardized chart-of-accounts templates—would be highly attractive and could significantly reduce onboarding friction. Group-based training offerings would also be a strong value driver, helping firms adopt the software more efficiently while building confidence and consistency across teams.

We ultimately chose TaxDome over Canopy because of its higher level of customization and its clear reinvestment of profits into ongoing product development. That reinvestment translated into greater flexibility, stronger workflow control, and a platform better aligned with how modern firms actually operate.

As it became clear that Thomson Reuters was no longer heavily investing in advancing its legacy platform, we recognized the need to evaluate alternative solutions. We conducted demonstrations across several software packages, and after careful comparison, this platform stood out as head and shoulders above the others in terms of functionality, workflow efficiency, and long-term scalability.

The ability to automate my services. The library and access to different templates and workflows. I like the chat and email option to communicate with my tax clients. I like the option to accept payments for my small business. I like that I can store my tax documents.

Cons:

The pricing is high to add additional users and there are constant issues going on. The fees are constantly increasing. There should be a phone number to speak with customer service. The setup process is very time consuming.

Excellent Software Tool for My Practice

Excellent. I love how TaxDome continues to add features. I barley scratched the surface of all it can do. I feel I don't have the time right now to really dive into certain things (workflow/jobs for example), but I will this summer. It'll will be good to get a better understanding as my practice grows.

Super clean and easy to use. Clients really enjoy it as well. I love having everything I need in one spot. I highly recommend this product to anyone with an accounting/tax practice.

Cons:

I like it all and have no real complaints. One thing I would like to see updated is the invoice piece within the proposal/engagement letter module. When a client accepts the proposal, it automatically invoices them with "today's" due date. I know there is an option to choose a different date, but that's not really helpful either. Here's why- I would like an option to be able to invoice the client after I perform the work (date is unknown at the time of agreement), instead of at the time of agreement. Say you sign a tax client in October, and you want to send the proposal to get the EL signed and price agreed upon, however, you don't want to invoice at that time. The client might not like the idea that they have this open invoice that says it's due now, when you don't need them to pay until months later. My previous agreement/payment software I used, Anchor, had this option- The client had to enter payment information in order to accept the agreement, but the firm (me) had the ability to invoice and charge their card when we wanted (when the work was completed for example)

TaxDome for Sole Prop

Overall TaxDome has been great. I do look forward to the ability to pass thru credit card fees to clients. I also look forward to additional features as they seem to be regularly adding helpful features.

TaxDome does document storage right. They also make tracking projects easy and sending invoices. I enjoy how easy it is to set up a new client too. I also appreciate the KBA signatures ability.

Cons:

TaxDome’s pdf editor doesn’t compare to Adobe. It’s good - but not good enough for basic tax preparation needs. I initially purchased the plan with hopes I could avoid an AdobePDF subscription, but ended up needing Adobe.

That everything is in one place from billing, to engagement letters, client document collection and organizers. It keeps everything streamlined for my staff and my clients.

Cons:

Creating meaningful reports can be a challenge. I'd like to be able to determine if I'm generating a profit after paying my contractors, but given that I bill in a variety of ways it's been difficult to create a report that properly tracks my billing and staff hours.
