About Fieldbook

Inspectors, project engineers, and office employees use Fieldbook to create, edit, manipulate, and search project data from any location. The data-first approach allows users to generate reports automatically with visuals and observations. They can also find photo evidence to resolve or prevent disputes and search by labels, data type, location, date range, and other custom fields, including contractor names or materials.

Current clients include departments of transportation, engineering firms, contractors, and industry-related materials companies.

At its core, Fieldbook is a data collection and project collaboration tool. It allows project staff to convey information and issues from the job site immediately, save time and money, and prevent reporting mistakes. Remote colleagues and other project stakeholders can see what is happening on the site from any location, improving transparency and mitigating risks. The solution helps teams keep projects on budget and helps them deliver according to specifications. Users can also report on pay estimates, deliveries, and fulfilled tasks.

Field User review

It has been very successful for the documentation of our project and provides an archivable format that some of our clients require for documentation of their projects. it is a good product and as I become more of a power user of the software I am encouraged that it will continue to provide a reliable database of the work that has been performed.

Pros:

It provides a reliable and efficient database of our inspection observations for the project. It allows real-time observations to be shared with many people that are not available to be on-site and provides for a secure record of the observations that can be shared outside of the headlight platform as well.(PDF)

Cons:

I am not fond of using Apple products which unfortunately is the platform that we use the software on.

Montlake sr520 project

The ease of the program made it very easy for inspectors to use and submit field reports in a timely manner with minimal revising needed.

Pros:

This product is very user friendly, especially after training was implemented. A basic knowledge of basic IOS functions was beneficial but most users find it very easy to use. I like the mobility and tracking that this offers. It made the inspection process very easy in terms of reporting.

Cons:

When i used it i found the granting of permissions and the ability of any user to change or edit certain aspects of the feild software was too easy and should be limited to administrators. Addition of tags without control makes this search and drop doen boxes a little muddy when searching for tags.

Headlight Fieldbook - Complete Failure and Waste of Time

Very slow to respond, does not sync media files, sometimes it attempts to sync everyones data as your own. Great idea, but very slow and glitchy app. Works ok on the laptop.

Illinois Tollway Field Inspection

Overall, I greatly enjoy Fieldbook and would recommend to others. It is easy to use and a great way to keep accurate record of what occurs in the field.

I like the ease of use of this software. It is very user friendly and rather self explanatory. When new inspectors arrived at our job, it is rather easy to get them on board and using the program.

Cons:

The biggest issue we have encountered is integrating fieldbook with Tollway's software of e-builder. Programmers are currently working on fixing integration issues.

Headlight Is Critical to Our Operations

We utilize Headlight for all day-to-day progress tracking. Additionally, I use it for cost and quantity tracking and reporting for a client that is heavily unit-priced based. While there are areas for improvement and advancement, it is an excellent system that has proven critical to our mission.

I think this is an excellent software platform for field use and tracking. The staff is top-notch and always helpful.

Cons:

There are some features that seem to be challenged. I review the dashboard regularly, but it still has not caught up to baseline status.

Ability to produce reports on-site. I hated having to remember what I did the previous day when producing reports.

Cons:

Customer service is awful. I am unable to receive responses to emails and phone calls when I run into an issue.

The HeadLight Fieldbook manual called "Academy" is built into the App. Academy courses are broken into micro tutorials; each tutorial is designed to take a few minutes to complete and typically includes text, images, and animations.
