Pros:

This solved a major issue with using Microsoft Identity. The native Identity migrations don't matchup with the MySQL data types. dotConnect for MySQL made it painless to setup and get working. I had previously tried to use the native MySQL connectors for .NET and wasted countless hours trying to get things to match up. This solved my problem in short order.

Cons:

The documentation could be a little better and updated for modern .NET Frameworks. Outside of that, everything worked as I expected.

Cons:

It is genuinely is hard to find cons.. it does what it says on the tin, sometimes the licencing when upgrading caused an issue but they supply a tool to easily fix

Excellent product and fast model generation

Great product, good customer support and a lifesaver if you have a legacy Entity Framework project and you are using .NET legacy connectors.

Some minor nuisances if you are moving from Oracle .NET connector (you should since it s barely mantained).

Support has been outstanding. The tool itself is reliable and without bugs. This company provides a range of complimentary tools to streamline database development. Its integration into the Visual Studio IDE is a must for us and it's seamless.

Cons:

We often get a warning that its not licensed correctly when installing on a customers site. We have a quick and nasty work around which is installing our DotConnect installation on the site and that fixes it right up. I completely understand the need for licensing selling software ourselves, but I find this product a little finicky at times. Mostly, it goes off without a hitch.

Reasons for choosing dotConnect for MySQL

The price is set just right. Freeware that provides the basic functionality of this product is definitely a case of , "You get what you pay for." This software, for the very little you pay, for goes way beyond basic functionality. The thing I love the most about this software, above all else, is it is NOT software as a service. Should you decide not to purchase upgrades, your software continues to work.

Allows HTTP Tunneling to MySQL using C# Winforms application

Works Great! One of a kind ODBC connectivity. Unbelievable performance using HTTP tunnel.php. Desktop application using MySQL via http tunnel work flawlessly - zero issues in over 3 years.

you have to hit tunnel.php at least once, prior to connecting via odbc otherwise you receive a connection failure message.
