About Checkvist

Checkvist is a cloud-based outliner and task management tool that can be used to create tasks lists, jot down notes and so on. The free version allows users to create checklists using styles such as numbers, bullets, checkboxes and more. Additional features include grouping similar tasks using tags, building task hierarchies and editing their status.

The paid version comes with more enhanced features such as task delegation, task tracking with automated notifications, file sharing, bulk-operational tools, white-label options for changing the tools’ colors or logo and integration with third-party solutions such as MS Outlook and Google Calendar.

The tool is suitable for small businesses that need a task management solution without any frills. The interface is specifically designed for users of desktops and laptops as most of the functions can be executed using keyboard shortcuts. It is deployed in the cloud so users can log in and use the tool via desktops, laptops or mobile devices.

A simple, straightforward checklisting program

Pros:

I used this program for a large freelance client to keep track of our tasks, and it was super-simple and straightforward. Not hard to learn or for non-technical people to use, but with enough features to help stronger users do more.

Cons:

Very little to dislike. I guess more features would be fine, but it's nice to have it so simple and easy to use.

Perfect if you just need basic outlines and lists

I used to use Checkvist for all my outlining and checklists. The interface is great, and works well on mobile too. The only reason I'm using it less is because I migrated some of my lists to Obsidian, so I can have more advanced features and offline storage. Checkvist made exporting lists in markdown format extremely easy. I still use Checkvist for some simple lists that I don't need to access offline. The Chrome extension is also great for quickly saving all the tabs in a session.

Pros:

This is a perfect web app for simple outlining and checklists. It's easy to use, and if you eventually need more advanced features or offline access, exporting lists is fairly simple.

Cons:

The only real con is that bulk export is limited to PRO users only, but I think that's more than fair. The PRO upgrade is very affordable, and there's a generous free trial as well.

The features and capabilities. I also really appreciate the fact that you can do so much with keyboard shortcuts alone.

Cons:

The web app and chrome extension would be better if they were also fully featured. Other than that you guys are doing a great job.

Outstanding Hierarchical List Software, Task Manager

I manage all my tasks using this app, both for work and at home. I really can't live without it.

The feature set is huge, but you don't need to use many features to see the power of this flexible list manager. The developers are also very responsive.

Cons:

The mobile app is not nearly as easy to use as the keyboard-centric web-based application.

Reasons for switching to Checkvist

I found that CheckVist was good at staying up to date. Being hosted allows access from multiple locations, without fear of not having access to the latest work you have done.

There are so many features there is nothing that it doesn't do that we need. Also, improvements are being released regularly,

Cons:

Because of the number of features it is hard to learn them all. But, nce you find something you need it's fine. Better Android /IOS access would be very useful but I know this is not an aim.

Adaptable. Great for innovators and free thinkers

Cons:

We'd like to see multiple instances per account, and the ability to be able to configure multipurpose structures. In one use case we use checkvist as an outliner and it would be useful to be able to have a purposed configurator to set - say - tasks up as features - create visual differentiation between the various use cases

The best task management tool I've ever used!

Checkvist is fantastic! I've used it for over a decade now. I've recommended it to many people, and even done trainings on effective task management focusing specifically on checkfest as my best recommended tool.

Outlining and More

I use Checkvist for all my personal and professional tasks. I also use it when brainstorming and taking notes. The outlining capability provides flexibility for a variety of uses. I can hold and show details as needed. I can categorize any item or subitem with any label or date. Lot of good filtering options.

Outlining! Overall flexibility and power. Inexpensive. Flexibility in exporting and importing information. I can share information with non-users. Works in a browser, and also on mobile devices.

Cons:

Would like more flexibility with printing. (Although it does support CSS, which I haven't used with Checkvist.) Also would like to see more power logical expressions for filtering. Large lists can be sluggish, especially on mobile.

Not just a task manager - a hub for all my information

It has enabled me to keep multiple projects organized, integrating inputs from my email, web searches, messages, some shared files. I can set easily set due dates, assign collaborators, etc. It has an extremely good cross-referencing method, so tasks that connect to multiple projects can be coordinated.

Pros:

It is very flexible - easy to use at first, and packed with features that become increasingly important as the size and complexity of your data increases. Excellent tools for import and export - easy to bring in links to web pages, email, files. Terrific quality and customer responsiveness: there have been only a few glitches in the years I have used it, and they have been fixed almost instantly.

Cons:

The app version (for cell phones) is much less feature-rich than the full web version. It's fine for basic lists and reminders, but not for more complex reordering and management of tasks.

Reasons for switching to Checkvist

Keep is great for very simple projects; Trello can get a little more complex; but I outgrew both of them. CheckVist has been a lasting solution.

Phenomenal keyboard driven outliner / todo list

It has helped me to improve my organisation. It is also a great app for getting your thoughts down on paper and general brainstorming.

Pros:

As a thoroughly disorganised person working in a demanding field, I depend heavily on my task-management system. There are a huge variety of apps on the market, but none have quite the flexibility of checkvist, or its keyboard driven ethos. For example, if I wish to assign a date to an app, I press 'd' twice, and just type the date using natural language. The task automatically gets imported into my calendar (google). Using the search bar I can rapidly find high-priority tasks, and I can quickly view a list of forthcoming tasks. While many task management apps have these kinds of features I doubt they are so beautifully implemented. An additional feature of checkvist is its outlining capabilities. So, as well as using it to manage task, you can use it plan talks, or writing assignments. Keyboard driven shortcuts are extremely intuitive, and make it an absolute breeze to use. The company is always innovating on the basis of customer feedback, and respond to queries from paid customers within hours. There is literally nothing else out there like it. Check it out.

Cons:

Checkvist has few drawbacks. It would be great if the mobile app was slightly more developed. However, for me this is not a deal breaker, as I use it mainly on a laptop / desktop.
