This may seem odd at first. But it is not, because I already had the experience of testing four other platforms, plus taking a close look at several other platforms along the way. Some of these others were targeted at much larger camps or resident, traditional, "by-the-lake" camps with very different management needs to my academic STEM day program. One was so focused on its own brand that they actually presented it as a benefit to me because parents supposedly already knew and trusted their brand, so the association was being pitched as a good thing! BeAKid struck me as a platform that would deliver on basic key features: -easy registration process -a professional looking registration widget with filters to make finding the right camp session a snap -a focus on my brand -accurate accounting -efficient communication with parents -the ability to have clear options for add-ons like before or after care -reasonable fees I also felt like I could trust on them to be there when I needed help.

Here are the main issues I ran into along the way: 1. One platform was marketing to my existing new and returning customers and then claiming a 15% finder's fee when these families registered. 2. Slow to respond to technical issues and then not always being able to fix them. I understand that fixing certain issues can be challenging. 2. Not putting my brand first. For example, the platform brand was prominently displayed. Or while registering for a camp, a parent was presented with the opportunity to click away from the registration process. Or being associated with other services, like child care or adult care, that use the same platform. 3. Getting calls from parents who were confused about the registration process. 4. A registration widget that is not easy to read or fails to show the Add to Cart button when viewed on certain devices. To appear properly and work, these things need to be tested exhaustively across different devices and operating systems. 5. Having to manually check the numbers at the end of the season because they do not add up as expected.
