About Requirements Portal

Requirements Portal by Altium is a requirements management and verification tool integrated directly into Altium’s solutions, including Altium Develop, Altium Agile Teams and Altium Agile Enterprise.

It enables engineering teams developing hardware products and embedded systems to create, store, and manage formalized requirements and link them to designs and verification data.

Each requirement is traceable and connected to upstream system definitions and downstream design and verification artifacts, such as schematics, PCB layouts, BOMs, and test cases, providing visibility from system design through implementation, verification, handoff, and certification.

This helps teams reduce rework, avoid misalignment across disciplines, and simplify compliance activities.

Why choose Requirements Portal?

Unlike traditional requirements management systems that are rigid, expensive and maintained by dedicated admins, Requirements Portal offers an easy-to-use and easy-to-learn alternative that delivers a fast return on investment for engineering teams.

Compared to document-based approaches that are near-impossible to scale beyond a few hundred requirements, Requirements Portal helps you...

scale across complex products and multiple projects with thousands of requirements. — Requirements Portal is the successor to Valispace, created after Altium acquired the company and integrated its technology into the Altium ecosystem. Requirements Portal is included in Altium Develop, and the starting price includes unlimited collaborators. Key Benefits: - Bring Requirements Where Design Decisions Happen: Work with requirements in your electronics development platform. Import, view, break down, and verify requirements so your team can make design decisions from up-to-date specifications. Connect requirements to designs to keep everyone aligned. - Trace Requirements from Designs to Verified Hardware: Link requirements to schematics, PCB layouts and BOM items for enhanced traceability. Connect requirements to verification and test cases to ensure coverage. Give all collaborators full visibility to reduce risk of missed requirements and faster, more agile iterations. - Track Project Progress & Ensure Quality: Track requirement implementation and verification in real time. Generate audit-ready documentation from live data in minutes. Full change history turns compliance into a shared responsibility across the team, enabling you to compete in regulated markets.

One big step forward for requirements and verification management

Provides a single source of truth for all sorts of requirements and related processes for our line of satellites. This is key for a small team that wants to iterate quickly on new designs and move through production and verification quickly.

Pros:
Really great concept that improves greatly on the classic model for requirements and verification management (usually DOORS in the aerospace world).
Cons:
The software is still new and under development. This means that some features aren't totally implemented and we also found a few bugs. That said, they are very responsive, fix things fast, and are even willing to work with us on their development roadmap.

Reasons for switching to Requirements Portal

So instead of going the classic aerospace route (DOORS, Excel and Project), we decided to try the new upstart and combine all those functions in one place. It hasn't been painless doing things in a new way, but we think the effort has been worth it – we're more agile and we still generate good documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
