About SpotOn

SpotOn Restaurant is a cloud-based point-of-sale solution that enables businesses to streamline processes related to food ordering, tableside payments, customer retention and more. The online ordering functionality enables businesses to create custom menus, accept online requests and redirect the order to the kitchen on a centralized platform.

SpotOn Restaurant provides a mobile order and payment functionality, which lets customers access menu, send table orders to the kitchen and pay using an EMV, Apple Pay and Android Pay-enabled card reader. It comes with a labor-management module, which allows businesses to administer human resources operations related to shifts, employee hours and gratuities. Additionally, managers and leaders can gain insights into processes across transactions, POS, hourly sales, special events and loyalty campaigns.

SpotOn Restaurant facilitates integration with several third-party solutions such as HotSchedules, Ctuit, Intuit Quickbooks and more. It is available on monthly subscriptions and support is extended via phone and email.

It's been great. I recently had an issue that Client Success Partner [sensitive content hidden] helped me out with and exceeded my expectations! She helped me resolve a transition issue from my old POS and allowed us to close the book on it completely. Very much appreciated!

Pros:
The user interface is ahead of the game when it comes to other POS's. Also, the tech and application support is top notch. It took a bit of getting used to, but once we did, it was a huge improvement over our old system. That and the online ordering capabilities as well as the Doordash Direct functionality make it a win win for us.
Cons:
It took a bit of getting used to once we implemented. I'm not sure if it's the fact that we were with our old system for many years prior and we were used to it, but relearning was the hardest part.

Reasons for switching to SpotOn

Updating the system was required. We had multiple systems in place that were disconnected from each other. From Loyalty to multiple third parties are now integrated under one house that make it so much easier to use on a daily basis.

Pros:
My favorite thing about SpotOn is getting to work with our Restaurant Success Manager, Jonathan Smith. He is so knowledgeable, always makes time for me and my team, and completes all our projects with a smile and a joke which gets me through my day in a more stress free way. Not sure what I would do without him.
Cons:
All the different sites for all the different platforms and changes to the way reports look.

Bad Communication and complicated services

The Online Orders and the opportunity to make delivery without pay a lot to Doordash. Good marketing tools
Cons:
Bad communication and over sale product. The installation is complicated and take too long to get the menu. Need better explanation about the percent and cost of services. Too many departments to resolve issues.

Big liable problem with taxes and sales tax

Horrible . for accountting. Need to go to 10 different widow for report. Sales tax is not properly counted. Found myself liable with big sales tax amount. They didn't have an answer for that. they they said next month it will be adjusted which it didn't .Also if a ticket still open at closing .it automatically close the ticket but as Item sold. So you pay tax on it even if you didn't received the money . They told me that I have to adjust it in my general ledger. but the 1099E will be showing a big difference since it's not corrected on their end.

Not much . beside I regret to change. They told me that it's exactly the same than toast but the Credit card fee a lot cheaper
Cons:
Credit card Refund processed is not friendly . And Can not make a cash refund next day . Need to make a paid out to refund the customer. So it's not really accouting friendly since paid out is not made for that.So you pay tax on the sale, and Sales tax is not properly deducted.

Do not buy this POS

This is the absolute worst POS system I have used in my 20+ years in the industry. I have been working with this system for almost five years now and it is absolutely terrible. You create a tab for a customer and it just completely disappears sometimes! I've had $300 bar tabs completely disappear and then have to try and remember everything the guest ordered to re-ring it. We have lost so much money using this system. Our equipment finally got replaced after our old terminals were crashing daily. We built a new restaurant and made the mistake of sticking with Spoton. Their Website team takes months to make the simplest changes. I bought my system from a third party so I can't even go through Spoton's customer service. The whole deal is sketchy and a huge inconvenience. The handhelds can't even reach my patio tables even though we are well within the required sq footage.

Nothing. It is terrible. There is not one good thing about this system. Customer service is clueless and rude.
Cons:
The constant computer crashes, lost tickets, not for high volume restaurants. System doesn't allow even the most basic functions of a POS. Ten steps to do anything. It took me months to get my menu properly imported into their system and I am still having to call them daily because something changed in the settings and now everything's ringing in wrong. Servers hate it. Bar hates it.

My experience with SpotOn

Honestly there has been several highs and lows. I think they are working hard to improve the product and I believe they will have a bright future. I don't know if there needs to be more internal training before products are launched to the customer, but I feel like I get many different answers to a question and many are not accurate.

The express POS is very simple to program and is easy to train new employees how to use it. [sensitive content hidden] has been very helpful getting my questions to the correct people to get the answers I need. Once they went to the correct people, they were handled promptly and efficiently.
Cons:
The staff are very helpful but there needs to be a better internal system to let staff know who is helping which customers and the particular issue that is being resolved. I have had multiple calling, and emailing to solve and issue that has already been resolved.

Bad overall system & product

Overall we would never suggest it to anyone. It is not the right system for bars/restaurants. Constant handheld issues caused our staff years of grief during busy times. Cards not going through, we had like 6 hot spots added all of which didn't help. We were told no contracts and that we could stop at any time but then we had to get new equipment which meant we had to sign a contract. Just bad business practices all around with constant changes and always causing problems. Our GM spends nearly 12 hours a week figuring out issues, calling CS and dealing with the constant problems.

One CS rep who helped with all our issues [sensitive content hidden]. She was always trying to help resolve our constant issues.
Cons:
The set up, the handhelds never worked properly, the payment errors that we feared were losing us sales. I also didn't like that we didn't see deposits for 48 hours later. The cut off time is 6pm and every bar/restaurant is open past that which means we won't see funds for 2 days. In this industry cash flow is everything and this caused a lot of problems financially.

This started off as no contract (which we liked) but then you moved to a contract when we were forced to get new equipment. You were slightly less expensive

Run, don't walk away from this company

They are unethical, sadly they misrepresent their product. The sales team was bad, the white glove install was done by a third party that doesn't know the software or hardware. Miserable experience.

To be honest, nothing. Everything we were told the system will do, it didn't (doesn't). We get no answers when we are promised callbacks, on hold for literally hours. I guess those would be the good points, and they aren't good.
Cons:
Sales Rep was new and not trained fully on the product he represented, made promises of what the system will do, it doesn't in nearly all cases, The system crashes, it always shows us as being closed when we aren't, customer service knows very little about the product and can't solve problems, tell you 48 hours, how can you wait 48 hours to solve a problem with your point of sale? It has taken 2 months to address our issues and they still aren't resolved. This has been a nightmare, a complete and udder nightmare.

Promises from sales rep that were found to be not true. We will go back to Square.

24/7 Customer Service Good working reports Fast "fixes" for most things KDS is interactive and so easy to read compared to others
Cons:
POS main screen slow and not touch sensitive as it should be Menu build not handled as well as I would have liked and as I was assured it would be End of Day functionality is troublesome every day
