It takes too long to chart. I am pretty computer savvy, and it takes me about 20 minutes to chart one patient visit. Each drop down section takes a long time to load, and it often takes 5-30 seconds to save.
Functions are redundant; many things should be able to be charted in one place and carried over to other areas, such as visit counts being automatically logged from visit notes' start and end times. I can't chart on site due to the program loading and saving too slow.
Many functions still don't work. I cannot use the scheduling function, have been unable to use visit counts until yesterday, and cannot chart under the on-call log.
So far nothing that has been reported has been fixed as far as I can tell. We have been dealing with these issues for approximately 6 weeks. Even after they've been reported as fixed, they still haven't been, like the visit counts tabs which they said was fixed at the end of October, but we were only able to start using yesterday.
The look of the program is professional and has an easy to follow format for most functions
It takes a long time to open each section in the Nurse's Visit Notes. It makes charting in real time impossible. Many functions seem redundant. It seems if there were start and end times on the notes, that could easily be attached to the visit counts and this would be logged simultaneously without the user doing an extra step. This could also be applied to recertification periods as you have to physically change the date each period even though you do it already under the recert section. It would be nice to be able to make addendums to notes that have already been finalized and to delete notes that have not been finalized.
One of the most frustrating things is that one cannot chart if someone else has an open note in the chart. I like the idea of it flagging each individual user to finish their own notes, but more than one person should be able to chart on a patient at a time. We also need more ICD-9 codes to choose from, we have several patients whose diagnoses are not listed. And patients listed under failure to thrive require a co-morbidity from the list or you can not complete all their admission forms. Under Nurse's Notes, anything with a round option, once you click it, you cannot unclick it. Also, the green tabs on the Nurse's Notes in each section should be listed as not required instead of having to check "not required" each time you chart. I would also like to see a supplemental note as an option under the Nurse's Visit Notes tab to document care coordination, phone calls, medication refills, etc.
I feel I've really given this program the benefit of the doubt. It's hard to change to something new, but after 6 weeks, there are many things that are frustrating and not one thing that I think "wow that's awesome!"

Hospice Management Suite has been a great benefit to us. As a small hospice we shopped around for a software that would meet our needs and we found just that in HMS.
We really wanted find a software that worked for us and would help us to become more in compliance with the ever changing COP's, yet we were unable to invest huge amounts of time or money to the process. When I came across HMS we knew right away that it could be just what we were looking for to get us away from the old fashioned paper chart, and it was!
We have found Hospice Management Suite to offer user friendly and precise charting capabilities for our IDG team. We also love the fact that we are able to use various methods within the software to generate pt/staff measures which assist us with our QAPI program.
We feel that one of the best features available from HMS is the customer service. They have always been just a phone call or email away to help us out or listen to a suggestion. The people at HMS feel like an extended arm of our hospice team rather than a business located half a country away!
Did I mention that it is web based!!! Awesome!!!

We are a relatively small hospice that has 4 clinicians. We are known for giving our patients a very personal experience during this rough time. Our average census is anywhere from 35-40, expecting to grow this year by 20 percent.
We looked for software because charting on paper created more and more problems everyday. This company is extremely easy to work with. They provided a very comprehensive implementation and training period (they even worked with us on the price). After using this software for the past several months we would never want to go back to paper charting.
Hospice Management Suite also has something called a document center which has been amazing; we can scan and upload and document into our patient record. IDG has been drastically shortened, and we love the time it has saved us. Overall the best part of this software is the people. The Hospice Suite team has exceptional customer support, and actually listen to our feedback on the software. This is a very happy customer.
