Generally good experience

Generally good experience, easy to use and flexible. I am missing a UI for the online Service-generation, an end-user friendly data explorer.

Pros:

I liked the high versatility, the possibility to connect many different protocols and the flexible coding for Services. I really appreciate the VS-Code plugin and the good support.

Cons:

I would love to have a dashboard for the Data Explorer. I would like to generate Services via a UI and online templates, and I am missing a better integration of the Workbench and Sandbox with the actually used Service-Files.

Mit der Connectware sind wir nun in der Lage unsere Produktionsmaschinen rund um die Uhr zu überwachen und in Echtzeit Aktionen zu generieren und Erkenntnisse zu gewinnen. Die Vielzahl an unterstützen Protokolle erlaubt es uns auch in Zukunft neuen Maschinen mit unterschiedlichsten Schnittstellen zu integrieren und die Anbindung an modernste Datenverarbeitung und Speicher-Lösungen.

Pros:

Die Anzahl an Protokollen zu Maschinenanbindung und die einfache Konfigurierung. Wir benutzten hauptsächlich Beckhoff ADS Verbindungen um Maschinendaten abzufragen und Postgres SQL um die Daten in unsere Datenbank zu schreiben. Der integrierte Daten-Explorer lässt eine einfache Kontrolle der ein- und ausgehenden Daten zu. Die Integrierung von Connectware und dessen Konfigurierung in unseren Deployment-Prozess mittels Docker und Ansible.

Cons:

Connectware bietet die Möglichkeit an, die Daten intern mittel JSONATA zu transformieren und gewisse Regeln zu implementieren. JSONATA ist eine sehr mächtige Query und Transformations-Sprache, dementsprechend braucht es gerade am Anfang, wenn man noch nie mit JSONATA gearbeitet hat, auch einige Zeit simple Transformationen zu implementieren. Manche JSONATA Transformationen fühlen sich auch unnötig kompliziert. Hier wäre es wünschenswert, wenn man die Option hätte, zum Beispiel die Daten mit Javascript zu manipulieren.

Vielfältiges Tool für jeden Shopfloor

Im Bereich der Forschung können wir mit unterschiedlichsten Maschinen, von unterschiedlichen Herstellern und mit unterschiedlichen Schnittstellen dank der Connectware neue Konzepte erproben, Demonstratoren zuverlässig umsetzen und müssen uns nicht einschränken lassen von starrer Software.

Pros:

Die Connectware ist sehr flexibel und kann komplexe Abläufe zuverlässig abbilden. Das Self-hosted Modell garantiert die eigene Datenhoheit. Der Support ist immer sehr freundlich und kompetent. Neue Features können angefragt werden.

Cons:

Der hohe Grad an Flexibilität kommt zu dem Preis, dass man sich gut einarbeiten muss, bis man fehlerfrei neue Konfigurationen (Commissioning Files) scripten kann. Auch Vorwissen in Programmierung und Software-Architektur sind notwendig. Die Dokumentation ist ausbaufähig, wird jedoch durch sehr schnelle Support-Reaktionszeit ausgeglichen.
