Cons:

ADAudit Plus: A Powerhouse for AD Visibility

ManageEngine ADAudit Plus is essentially the "missing link" for any IT department that relies on Active Directory. While Microsoft provides the data through native logs, ADAudit Plus provides the intelligence. It transforms a chaotic stream of raw events into a structured, searchable, and visual security narrative.

Pros:

As a SysAdmin overseeing a hybrid environment, keeping track of what actually happens inside Active Directory (AD) has always been a challenge. Native logs are notoriously difficult to parse and even harder to turn into actionable data. After implementing ManageEngine ADAudit Plus, the difference in visibility was immediate.

Cons:

While the tool is powerful, there are a few aspects that could be refined to improve the user experience: ADAudit Plus can be quite a "memory hog." Because it processes a massive amount of real-time data, it requires a well-provisioned server. If you try to run it on a VM with the bare minimum specifications, the web console can become sluggish, especially during peak hours or when generating large historical reports. Out of the box, the system is very sensitive. If you don't spend significant time during the first week fine-tuning the alert thresholds, your inbox will be flooded with notifications for routine, non-threatening actions. A more intuitive "auto-tuning" feature based on baseline behavior would be a great addition. The UI is packed with features, which is a double-edged sword. Some menus are buried three or four layers deep, making it occasionally difficult to find specific niche settings. A more modern, streamlined "Search" function for the settings menu would save a lot of time.

Could be better...

It was something that I inherited when I started with my current company. It's decent, but I'm probably going to move to something that's a little more robust and easier to upgrade.

Pros:

I like the amount of data that ADAudit Plus can gather. It can pull your file server auditing, your domain controller auditing, and a whole host of other things. You can also setup alerting on specific events that makes it easy to see what's happening with your servers.

Cons:

The upgrade process is the worst thing I've ever seen in a software product. You have to put your build number into the support website, download a major upgrade, install that, and then download a service pack, and install that. It doesn't sound so bad, but the upgrade process itself is dependent on this antiquated process that uses a batch file and a Java utility. It fails more often than not and the upgrade instructions listed on ManageEngine's website has inaccurate data (lists the wrong batch files to use, etc).

A Reliable Tool for Active Directory Auditing and Security

On the whole, I would say that ManageEngine ADAudit Plus was a very enjoyable software to work with. The tool not only allowed me to have much clearer visibility of changes in our Active Directory environment but was also instrumental in securing our security posture. When I first started using it, I used up quite a considerable amount of time with the learning curve, but after that, I was able to use it daily feeling it was very dependable, it had great precision, and working with it was also easy. The integration of real-time alerts, in-depth reports, and a user-friendly interface made it an excellent tool for both overseeing and meeting regulation requirements.

Pros:

The aspect of ManageEngine ADAudit Plus that I enjoyed the most is that it is simple to use and at the same time delivers thorough insights. The interface is very intuitive that I can tackle even very complicated audit requests without much effort. I particularly liked the variety of predefined reports; having those available saved me time and gave me a quick snapshot of user actions and changes to Active Directory. The alerts in real-time were also a big benefit, as they enabled me to detect and respond to situations before they became bigger issues.

Cons:

One thing I liked least about ManageEngine ADAudit Plus is that some advanced configuration options give you a feeling of being overwhelmed when you first try them. Getting acquainted with all the features and customizing the reports to your liking indeed takes a small amount of time. Additionally, the system can be somewhat sluggish at the start if the environment is large. It is not something that hinders the success of the product, but it does make you have to wait a bit in the beginning.

Pros:

The ease to manage all your estate and deploy patches without physical being there. Be by able to monitor your devices health and producing report for higher manager, in different things like user login, security group changes and creating custom reports.

Cons:

I like the aspect of being able track changes to Active directory objects. Ability identity potential threats.

Ease of use, once all the configuration parameters are entered, after that there are several of ready-made reports, which is always good for saving time

Cons:

it is always slightly difficult to integrate some pieces, in every ManageEngine product, so many things are very simple, however sometimes with GPOs and other things you have to be careful

Pros:

IADAudit Plus was very helpful at tracking user logon activity across our network as well as file access. By monitoring these events, we have already been tracking down some unusual patterns which may mean security threat, so we can act accordingly before it does any harm.

Cons:

One of the limitations was that native support for auditing non Windows file servers was not available. To have such intelligent coverage level of monitoring we had to implement extra tools which also lead further complexity.

Pros:

With ADAudit Plus I can audit Active Directory changes deeply and get real-time alerts about the changes made to the user accounts or group membership, or any GPOs. Having this immediate visibility into these important changes has been a key factor in helping ensure we maintain a chronic level of security in our organization.

Cons:

The integration was rather easy except that it required additional configuration for some third party SIEM solutions. This created more complexity during the first setup phase and we needed to further collaborate with our security team to let data flow without a hitch.
