About dbForge SQL Tools

dbForge SQL Tools is a complete set of mini-tools integrated with SSMS to enhance its default functionality. As a result, users receive plenty of additional options for database creation, editing, analysis, monitoring, DevOps, reporting, and other purposes. It makes all work on SQL server databases simpler and more efficient.

The set consists of various specialized tools focusing on productivity boost, improving the organization of work, database deployment, DevOps, and more. Users can get the toolset to implement all add-ins at once or choose and apply some tools separately to improve SSMS jobs in some target areas.

The key advantages of SQL tools include:

  • Write, proofread, and beautify SQL code. dbForge SQL Tools is one of the most popular SQL Tools. It is a powerful extension covering code auto-completion, formatting, refactoring, debugging, code snippets, tab coloring, data visualization, and other benefits.

  • Create SQL queries in a visual format to save time and avoid errors. The query builder GUI solution provides all the functionality to design even the most complicated SQL queries using visual blocks. There is no need to write any code manually. This feature also...

allows for adding and editing tables, data analysis, and processing. After composing a query, users can execute it directly from that interface. - Improve the SQL Server performance. Several dedicated tools help the database specialists ensure the SQL Server's appropriate performance. dbForge Monitor tracks the SQL Server performance, providing detailed stats on all processes, and informing about the expensive queries and bottlenecks. Index Manager analyzes SQL indexes, defines the fragmentation issues, and allows the users to rebuild affected indexes visually or with the scripts generated by the manager. Event Profiler captures the SQL Server events and presents detailed information for the admins to investigate the server performance in different conditions, do stress testing and detect problems. - Compare and deploy databases onto supported platforms. SQL Tools include two solutions designed for comparing the databases – Data Compare and Schema Compare. dbForge Data Compare for SQL Server allows businesses to compare the data in database tables and identify the differences. Schema Compare for SQL Server performs the comparison of the database objects in schemas, working with databases, snapshots, and backups. After comparing and detecting all mismatches, these tools update the databases to synchronize them using wizards and scripts generated by the software. The system deploys the database changes effectively. - Migrate the data between databases and populate tables with real or test data. A tool named Data Pump is an important part of dbForge SQL Tools. It lets teams populate tables with data from external sources. It imports and exports the data, supporting various data formats such as XLS, CSV, JSON, XML, TXT, and MS Access. Another tool is Data Generator which produces realistic data for various tests. It includes customizable data generators and allows adding and sharing users' generators. The test data are meaningful, and this tool can produce them in any volume. - Connect SQL Database to the version control systems and implement CI in the organization. SQL Tools include the Source Control for SQL module that links the database to popular version control systems such as Git (with GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket), Azure DevOps, SVN, and TFVC. Then teams can perform all version control routines in SSMS. Also, pay attention to the Unit Test extension allowing the developers to write such tools directly in SSMS, using regular T-SQL.

Pros:
The code completion and query building features save me a ton of time by helping to prevent typos and automatically build code with snippets. The code refactoring is great because I can focus on getting my code out rather than formatting. Then, with a couple key presses, my code is consistent and reads well. The summary info at the bottom of returned datasets lets me sum columns or find min/max values without leaving SSMS to copy into Excel.
Cons:
Of the pieces I've used, I really haven't found anything that annoys me enough to remember.

Easy to use and a great value!

5

The tools work great, they are easy to use, and they integrate smoothly with my SQL management studio. I used a competing software for many years which has a robust feature set and mature tools. The pricing on this software was just too much. I found dbForge SQL Tools and not only is it comparable, it works incredibly well, and it's a fraction of the cost. I really wish I found this platform first and plan to move our other users to this software!

Reasons for choosing dbForge SQL Tools

The tools were easier to deploy and configure

Reasons for switching to dbForge SQL Tools

Primarily due to cost, the Red-Gate tools are quite expensive.

A Must-Have Add-On for Any SSMS User

5

My overall experience has been excellent. Since I started using dbForge SQL Tools, my productivity in SSMS has noticeably increased. It’s a must-have add-on that brings modern coding features to SQL Server development. I now rely on it daily and couldn’t go back to a plain SSMS environment.

Pros:
Features like intelligent auto-completion, smart formatting and indentation, customizable snippets, powerful search, and advanced SQL analysis are top-notch and truly enhance my productivity. Despite the wide range of functionalities, the configuration is intuitive and easy to grasp. It’s clear that a lot of thought went into the user experience.
Cons:
There’s almost nothing I dislike. The only minor inconvenience is that copy shortcuts (Ctrl+C) don’t work in the search window. But aside from that, the tool is remarkably well-designed.

Pros:
I use the tools constantly - particularly SQL Complete, Schema Compare and Data Compare. I could not do my job without them - it's as simple as that. It makes it so simple to compare different databases - both in on-prem SQL Server and using Azure - for changes to table structure, triggers, keys, data, and anything else.
Cons:
It's a shame that Schema Compare and Data Compare don't link together slightly more easily - they are two completely separate tools. If I am comparing the schema of two databases, for example, it would be really useful to have a button to "compare data" which launched data compare with the same servers and databases selected.

One of the most important parts of developing an application is connecting to the application's data source.SQL Complete, Schema Compare and Data Compare are daily needs for developers. And with dbForge SQL Tools, these tasks are conveniently performed without leaving your favorite development environment. If we also add the tools to document the project, dbForge SQL Tools becomes an essential tool
