About Ghostscript

Ghostscript is file conversion and interpreter software that helps businesses manage documents and print operations. It offers a host of features including PDF, PostScript, PCL, and XPS conversion, a proprietary color management system, native rendering to raster and conversion to vector formats, custom screening technologies, and delivers high-quality color reproduction.

Ghostscript can be called as a standalone command line application or can be integrated with your application directly as an SDK.

Ghostscript integrations range from host-based, embedded, SaaS, and cloud solutions. The Ghostscript engine has been used in printers, MFPs, RIPs, document management systems, PDF generation tools, and cloud-based printing.

Ghostscript's PDF interpreter was completely rewritten in C. The new implementation delivers a standalone PDF interpreter that is faster and more secure than its predecessor.

Bindings for Python, C#, and Java have been added for the Ghostscript API interface, and we’ve added OCR device support to Ghostscript.

Pros:

We have noticed Ghostscript as a very handy and flexible tool for handling PDF challenges today and we have been impressed by Ghostscripts feature set and flexibility. As a de-facto standard, Ghostscript provides help in handling PDF based documents which shortens the development cycle, and which also ensures a high compatibility of the output documents. The dual license model allows the use of Ghostscript in many scenarios.
