About GeoGebra

GeoGebra is a cloud-based mobile learning solution, which helps K-12 educators utilize online calculators and a virtual classroom to facilitate learning for students. Teachers can track learners' performance on bar graphs and receive updates about tasks' progress in real-time.

GeoGebra enables students to join virtual classrooms and participate in activities using shared URLs. Educators can invite other teachers to the classroom, assign tasks to learners and select multiple learning activities according to requirements. Additionally, its calculator suite lets students use online mathematical tools to save, export, share and download calculations.

GeoGebra provides mobile applications for Android and iOS devices, enabling students to access online calculators remotely. The product is available for free and support is extended via documentation.

GeoGebra Classic, my opinion

I’ve been using GeoGebra Classic to create graphics from functions, do some calculations, etc. It’s been using pretty well

GeoGebra: The Ultimate Power Tool for Teaching and Exploring Mathematics

I'm a GeoGebra power user. I used from the beginning about 20 years ago. My journey with GeoGebra has been transformative—first as a teacher, then as a teacher trainer, and now I recommend it in my role as a mathematics inspector. I also make many GIF animations and applets with it for teachers. The platform not only enhances lesson delivery but also empowers educators and students to explore mathematical ideas creatively. While GeoGebra offers unparalleled versatility, the sheer breadth of tools and options can be initially overwhelming for new users. However, with time and exploration, this becomes a strength rather than a limitation.

Reasons for switching to GeoGebra

First I used Geoplan, Geospace and Cabri. When GeoGebra arrived in the early 2000s it was immediately a game changer. Because of its versatility that has kept growing. I could put some GeoGebra files in my Moodle classes thanks to a plugin. Then I quit Moodle.

GeoGebra - Your math hero

GeoGebra is a free and powerful program that makes it possible for students to visualize mathematics. Personally I've used GeoGebra for many years during my school journey, because GeoGebra is one of the only programs that make me understand equations and mathematical constructions. Still to this day many teachers in my school use GeoGebra during their lessons to teach the students all about functions etc. Overall I am satisfied with this packed software that can be used on any mobile device as an application or simply online on any browser.

GeoGebra is an excellent tool especially for students, because it makes it possible to draw mathematics and experience it from another point of view. With GeoGebra laws of math like calculating the area of a two dimensional or three dimensional geometrical shape can be taught easier. This can be reached by freely adding forms, points, lines and circles with custom length and of course colored. This ability to make the user experience math by himself without limitations strengthens the user's mathematical thinking. Another great aspect of GeoGebra is the amount of free pre-installed course materials that deviate from the conventional calculator. This makes students able to explore many areas of math. My school uses GeoGebra very often.

Cons:

Especially for teachers it took a long time to get used to how the program actually works. The wide variety of tools that are cramped together in hidden places make it hard for the beginners to get an overview of the calculator. The course materials can be created and published by anyone, so there is the possibility of having low-quality or even misleading materials.

Usando Geogebra en clases.

He utilizado la herramienta clásica y su versión 3D, dónde ambas han sido muy útiles durante las clases debido a que facilita la comprensión sobre los ángulos y vectores. Sus herramientas de cálculos de áreas permiten comprobar los cálculos realizados a mano.

Cons:

Para poder contar con todas sus funciones, los alumnos deben registrarse, durante un espacio de la clase se debe realizar dicho registro en dónde se puede requerir mucho tiempo.

Free and easily used

I really appreciate being able to demonstrate geometry concepts rather than just trying to draw them and have students simply accept the rules. I am a bit frustrated with how to employ the activities. I recently looked into some of the Algebra ideas as well...and again, I played with one regarding word problems but I couldn't find where there was an area to show if my solutions were correct or not. This may have to do with how the designer made the experience.

This is impactful as it allows students to not only see a demonstration of a concept (parallel lines and transversals, natures of angles, etc.) but it allows the student to explore by manipulating interactive demonstrations. The software is free and easily accessible. You don't necessarily require an account. There is an accompanying app which makes the experience "portable" and easily accessible when on the go.

Cons:

I find instructions can be confusing. I enjoy playing with the created activities but cannot always understand what is to be done with them. Some seem to be just for demonstration of concepts and some ask questions but I haven't yet figured out how to use this in a class. I think I could use a webinar or I should search perhaps for a Youtube (if there is one) that shows how to use these things efficiently. I also would prefer to have printed handouts so students can interact and actually write their observations on paper which can be collected, shared to classmates, posted on bulletin boards...that sort of thing.I also just played with an Algebra activity and was frustrated because I didn't see where a student would be able to confirm if they were correct or not.

GeoGebra

I use GeoGebra for elementary students when we talk about Intuitive Elements of Plane Geometry. We can't even use all the functions that are more complicated for students. The most attractive tasks are the Tangram Square games (puzzle). The children in my class also discovered GeoGebra during the pandemic, when I offered them the most interactive working methods.

GeoGebra is the virtual platformwith the help of which I present students with interactive and attractive tasks. Children can work in teams, they can directly view the progress for the proposed tasks.I think it is the best platform that can be used for young school children!

User friendly interface with useful tools for geometrical visual figures, graphing and calculations. Useful for both educators and students. Easy to create classes and assign tasks for students. Most importantly it is free of cost and application works in offline mode too, which is a lot useful for many poor kids.

Till now, I'm comfortable with Geogebra service, no cons till date.

Me encanta explicar gráficas con Geogebra

Me gusta mucho Geogebra, es genial para graficar y enseñar esos temas. Lo uso frecuentemente para las gráficas de la pendiente y las diferentes transformaciones de la parábola. Se me hace muy didáctico, y la mayoría de estudiantes sienten a geogebra como un programa amigable para entender las gráficas.
