About TIA Portal

I like working on the TIA as I can work on PLC and HMI from a single platform.

Pros:

Online troubleshooting is pretty easy in TIA, as we can directly download the changes to PLC.

Cons:

I think the software is bit slow and not smooth to opearte.

TIA Portal is the gateway to Controls and Automation

I have found no matter how complex the situation or challenge that TIA Portal has a way of being able to create a controls solution. It is the Control Engineers Swiss Army Knife.

Pros:

Every version continues to amaze me as it builds on the greatness from the previous one. It holds true compatibility through the versions and can easily update to the latest version. It integrates visualisation easily. The safety coding is straightforward and offers great options of commissioning including a safety override commissioning mode from version 17. The software is like a Swiss army knife, if you want the function it is there and powerful yet easy to use.

Cons:

The only downside of TIA Portal is that it would be great if it were easier to convert projects from S7 classic easier, but hey I guess you can't expect it to do everything for me.

Powerful, but painful

OK when it's working. Can be a little complicated until you get to know it. The UI reminds me of software from 25 years ago. Not so user friendly.

It is a comprehensive integrated platform with a lot of power. It's a bit complicated and kind of an antiquated UI look and feel.

Cons:

Lots of issues installing it and upgrading licenses. Have to jump through a lot of hoops, and run into errors along the way. Took 20+ hours to sort out. Completely unacceptable.

User friendly and good investment

Countless plants automated using TIA Portal, worked remotely on machines just as if I were present at site, Energy Suite integration enabled energy management and savings at various times.

Pros:

As the name specifies "Totally integrated Automation", TIA portal throughout the journey to V15 and beyond has actually realized the concept envisioned for its creation and even if you are a beginner or a seasoned professional, TIA Portal is all you need to open in your computer whole day, many workdays . While some might say is not as user friendly as some other software, people using TIA portal will differ, because of substantial improvement in every version. There's announcement from Siemens for Cause and effect matrix 's direct input option, which will be a game changer and will reduce the programming time significantly.

Cons:

Bulkiness, toll it takes on the hardware, but then of course for running a industry grade software suite you need good hardware.

Pros:

Tia portal is a software where we can carry out programming projects for PLC's, motors, HMI, etc. It has tools that will help you and facilitate the programming work at your convenience, everything is done with a programmed language. If you like automation from experience, I recommend this software that will be useful to get started in this world of PLC programming.

Cons:

Tia portal is a very good software, which receives constant updates, so it does not pose any inconvenience when programming. As a recommendation, it is better to install the software on a high-end PC for a better experience.

I love how you can edit the graphic. It is a complete suite and it is very intuitive. It is completely different from Siemens previous tools.

Cons:

In some occasion, it can be difficult to use the suite if you don't have an informatic background. Sometimes it crashes.

Pros:

Very good software. Since the Multiuser environment is released, we can simultaneaously as a team in one project. Of course we don't have choice in the software, because the selected hardware forces us to use Tia Portal, but we're happy.

Cons:

In very rare cases the software crashes.. lets say monthly. And thats still frustrating :)

tia is the best

i am an industrial automation engineer and i started to use it six years ago at first i used it in simple application like (operation of pumps or make a communication with drives)and then i used it in complex projects like operation of slurry pump 750kw

i think one of the most helpful things in tia is that to make a troubleshooting i think day by day not only the engineer can do it but also the forman

Cons:

sure the thing i like least at tia is the time of opening the program, it take more than two minutes to open i think this is not only for a small ram memory but the program mayby tamke more time to open
