About TestGorilla

TestGorilla is a human resource (HR) management software designed to help businesses improve hiring processes by conducting pre-employment tests for potential candidates. Professionals can create personalized assessments by adding the applicant's name and job role and automatically receive recommendations about relevant tests.

Using TestGorilla, managers can add long-form or multiple-choice questions in assessments and send invitation links to multiple candidates via email. Administrators can track the real-time progress of applicants and sort them based on ratings, alphabetical order, latest activity or custom responses. Additionally, it lets users review candidates' test scores, add private notes and generate detailed performance reports.

Pros:

TestGorilla has a vide variety of tests and based on scientifical approach combined with strong practical expertise of TG team. TG reduces your time for screening and preliminary interviewing of employees. Once the test passed you can go to screening of portfolio [technical staff] or references list [management] not using time for more interviews of more you actually need to judge the choice to hire.

Cons:

Some tests, especially for soft skills have a lot of questions - it splits focus and some can be not clear answered. Technical - needed Prospective June level for rising stars to be choosen cause some programming level tests are hard to pass, it makes reliability but does not help to employer to save costs. There is lack of integration with platforms for remote hire of contractors: UpWork, Glassdoor, Toptal. I wish TestGorilla will cooperate with large institution it make it more popular.

No-brainer

I am happy with my choice, I think TG covers my specific needs and I won´t be searching for another platform. Also, they have great support!

Very user friendly, super easy to find the correct assessments. Plus, they offer templates and automated responses.

Cons:

I wanted to create an assessment with 5 different test, but this was not possible, as 4 is the maximum per assessment.

Reasons for choosing TestGorilla

Pricing was very similar to Testlify, however, I liked much better TG´s branding and feel.

Limited Trial Access Despite Quick Sales Rep feedback

We engaged with TestGorilla hoping for a full trial of both personality and technical assessments as an alternative to Predictive Index. Although their UI looked great and responses were fast, we never received trial access to the complete suite. That limited visibility into core features left us feeling undervalued and unable to properly evaluate the product.

TestGorilla has a modern, intuitive interface that’s easy to navigate. Their pricing is competitive, and their support team was quick to respond to emails.

Cons:

The free trial is very limited—we never got full access to the personality or technical assessments we needed. The core tools felt too basic, and despite frequent emails, the sales rep couldn’t unlock the features we requested.

It was a trial. We were testing user experience, collaboration tools, gathered feedback from managers and HRs.

We’d recently tightened our HR tools budget and needed a more cost-effective solution than what we were paying with Predictive Index. TestGorilla’s lower per-user and pay-as-you-go pricing initially looked like a better fit for our lean hiring budget—so we decided to switch to keep costs in line without a long-term commitment.

Functionality that they offer is quite available and needed, and it seems like they have everything I need.

Cons:

It seems like they have everything I need, but they only offer contracts that are quite pricey. If you're hiring your first employee, and you actually don't need this service for a year, customer support is quite disappointed too. It takes them so long to answer, and they just don't get you. One more thing: when I spoke to their salesperson during the demo call, he didn't even know about all options they offer. For example, in my case, he didn't know that they offer some special terms to VC-based startups.

Good but subscription model is ver misleading

Dissapointing. We should have used other tools. Or we should have designed our test in house. We are a start up with less than 20 people.

The tool worked, the tests are good and features are well developed. Easy to use. Good cheating detection. Good process, good performance of the app.

Cons:

As a team of <20 people, We're shocked when we completed 1 hire and asked for cancellation. The subscription model was misleading — we thought it was monthly, but only afterward learned it was a locked 12-month contract. We finished our hire and emailed support almost 20 times begging for cancellation or a fair solution, but were only offered a rigid 3-month pause. Now we’re stuck paying for a service we don’t use. For a platform calling itself startup-friendly, this feels deeply misaligned. Clearer communication and flexible options are badly needed.

The availability of tests and ability to personalize tests as needed for our organization. It is nice to monitor tests from dashboard.

Cons:

That you had to commit to an annual agreement, could not delete only archive applicants that you gave tests to (if using TEST applicants - still had to see them on dashboard).

Eases the complicated procedure of skills verification

With objective and fair skill-testing, TestGorilla simplifies the process of skill-testing, but saving options and the process of playing back should be improved.

TestGorilla offers a practical and suitable method to measure the working skills, not leaving impressions. The fairness of evaluation is appreciated on the platform and it has always helped me spot good candidates.

The playback pace settings were also slightly awkward in reviewing the responses of several candidates.

Disappointing experience

We used the platform for technical recruitments. One of the main reasons we chose Test Gorilla was to create tasks for technical roles. However, over time, we’ve realized that the tasks on the platform don’t quite meet our expectations and are unable to fully assess our candidate's technical skills. They are either too simple or too difficult, and some of our candidates also find technical tasks irrelevant for assessing their skills and are unwilling to complete them. Considering all of this, we have decided not to use the platform in our hiring process in 2025 and to return to our own assessment methods. Since we didn’t cancel the subscription, the annual package was renewed. After contacting them within 1-2 hours to say that we didn’t wish to use the product, we requested a refund for the subscription fee. However, our refund request was rejected. Despite repeatedly stating that we will not be using their platform, they are refusing to refund our payment. Customer representatives are not helpful at all and keep dismissing the issue by saying it's company policy. We had a very bad experience with this. It is truly disappointing that we have made a payment for a platform we are dissatisfied with and will not be using.
