About Point of Rental Software

Rental Essentials is a cloud-based rental and inventory management software, which assists businesses of all sizes with online bookings and preventive maintenance. Its key features include accounting, customer information, reporting and rate management.

Rental Essentials comes with a mobile application, which enables users to access delivery and pickup information, scan items via barcodes and process payments. Teams can use this system to set billing intervals and generate invoices as per schedule. The solution lets managers maintain logs to track intervals for time or meter-based preventive maintenance. Additionally, staff can take pictures of rental equipment and monitor damages.

Rental Essentials allows supervisors to create contracts, generate quotations and collect digital signatures. It is available on a monthly subscription and support is provided via phone and email.

    Best software we have used.

    The ease of new employees learning of the software is a great bonus, and the level of detail and constant improvement provided is great. Our old system was hard to learn on and did not provide same level of reporting as point of rental does.

    Easy to use, very helpful staff and the level of detail within the product is what we like most. I love that they listen to their users and provide updates based on that feedback.
    Cons:
    Reporting options can be challenging to learn, but usually there are multiple ways to get to same report, just takes some time to figure it out.

    It's very comprehensive. The Elite system has a wide range of functionality and customization to fit your use case. The team is diligent about asking about your business, how it operates, and how its current processes so that they can fit POR to match your specific needs. They walk you through different processes and show you how to use the software for your needs, as opposed to just a general overview of how to do something, they customize all aspects to your company. Very personable onboarding and team. They are thorough and helpful and overall easy to work with.
    Cons:
    Most notably, the cost. However, it is a very valuable investment. You get A LOT in the software, and it's not doubt worth the expense. There is a lot to learn, so be prepared for it to take some time to get used to, and to train others to use the system.

    Ultimately, POR had a lot more features and functionality and was more equipped to handle the complexity of our business structure and needs.

    Do yourself a favour, don't

    Terrible. It is difficult to get someone on the phone. When issues are reported, the standard response seems to be either 'I don't know' (if speaking to someone) or 'we may look into it for future development' (if the error is reported online). This is the case even if the issue reported actively prevents work to be done and is detrimental to the company and its customers. We recently moved to Syrinx365. We met a representative to present the latest version ahead. Most of the presentation was focused on the addition of a weather widget and any questions about issues already present in the previous issue were ignored. The training videos are incomplete and contain errors.

    The system is based on Access so the data is relatively easy to interrogate. Manages hire quite well.
    Cons:
    The system was initially developed as a hiring management system and does this well. Unfortunately, any extra function (purchasing, stock management, sales, etc) seems to have been implemented without consulting professionals of the area to understand their needs. This resulted in critical functions missing or not working properly. A few examples: - The demand of spare parts generated by jobs is based on the job status but doesn't coincide with reality (certain status generate demand when they shouldn't and vice versa) - No quarantine - No possibility to have delivery dates by order line, only one date per order. Considering how frequent it is to have multiple deliveries planned on a single order, this is an unforgivable oversight. - Impossible to manage lead time for products - Impossible to flag a product hazardous or to manage MSDS - No manual - The integrated help doesn't cover a lot of important elements or does it superficially The list goes on.

    POR is much easier to use than Party Track!

    We have had some glitches lately that have impacted our business - mostly from credit card issues. Most of the issues prior to that have been easy to fix and your representatives are always pleasant.

    I love that it is an easy system to use. I have used Party Track before and I love POR way more!
    Cons:
    I wish the sorting was easier to use so that items that go together always show up on the contract without having to physically sort each contract. I also wish some of the reports were easier to figure out. I hate the updates all the time since we have had to physically do them. However, we are moving to the cloud in July, so I'm excited for that to happen!

    Great software with lots of innvovation but lacks some customization and support

    POR is the main component in our business and without it we cannot conduct our operations. We have been with the system for over 20 years, seen lots of innovative features, and every version keeps getting better and better. Need more support on their staff and implementations are not smooth but its a great product.

    Integrations, ease of use, many features, constantly evolving
    Cons:
    Support is not good. Long hold times, inconsistent training on support, after hours support almost non-existent for a 24 hour business. Many times front line support is unaware of features and fixes and it is tough to speak to an experienced support person. Takes too long to get through, get calls back, and get support in the event of a catastrophic failure.

    Rental Man was owned by United Rentals at the team which made it a non-starter.

    We switched 22 years ago from green screen rental software. Evolution was necessary.

    Always loved their support staff, quick to respond and most often fixed the issue or could show you how it happened, rarely had to contact them as the system ran pretty smoothly, the updates install themselves so no need to get everyone out of the system for upgrades. In the last year, they have changed so much, and often switch it back, and it no longer works properly, updates have to be done manually, screens have changed, support is non-existent, email and wait a week for a reply, if that. Been working on an issue now since last August, just gets worse instead of fixed and no reason why it is happening.

    Resale parts handling, reporting, receiving, pricing, inventory counting.

    Overall a good product but better customer support / liaison could be given

    Once the install was completed, the product is user friendly and easy to use. Any issues directed to the helpdesk are usually solved in a timely manner

    Took a while to get the installation process done, but now we have been using Syrinx for 2 years without any major issues. Driver app and scheduler are great.
    Cons:
    Stock checks, both sales stock and fleet on mobile device would be very useful.When we signed up we were promised an account manager who would be in contact with us throughout our time with POR, we do not know who our account manager is and they have not made contact in just over 2 years.

    Reasons for switching to Point of Rental Software

    InspHire became unusable with may crashes and no real explanation from them as to why and were not mobile friendly, they did have an app but it was clunky. We were trying to become less reliant on paper and inspHire couldn't support this at the time.

    It did not work for us

    It was really not great. we work with many companies. There is a bit of give and take in each business relationship. With Point of Rental there were many promises and no quality follow-up. The process took many times longer, in the end, the software was not workable for us, the money was taken and not refunded. Their contract in fine lines guarantees that so please read carefully all fine print.

    Point of Rental Software was presented to us as a Caddilac of rental software. It has many features and it seemed as it was capable of meeting and exceeding our needs.
    Cons:
    The promises made during the steps leading to signing the contract and then implementing the software for us were not. The communications with us were sparse and low quality, not prepared. The structure of the whole process was to get to scheduling the training at which point it was obvious that the software does NOT work for us but several thousands of dollars were paid but not refunded.

    Sirius software was a capable program but quite involved with its own poblems.

    It is easy to use and pretty easy to build the environment needed for our company and team and I love the reports.
    Cons:
    I wish that it was more affordable. We have not yet upgraded to new versions and tiers of the software due to the high costs. Also, to reach out for assistance from their customer care we are charged $150!
