About Uranium Backup

A complete and versatile tool for backup of physical PCs, Virtual Machines (VMware ESX, ESXi, vSphere/Hyper-V), Servers, SQL, and Exchange databases. Using Uranium Backup you can run drive image backup, FTP backup, cloud backup, backup to NAS devices, and to Tape (DAT, LTO, etc, and LTFS mode).

It also allows zip compression and encryption, e-mail notifications, Shadow Copy (VSS) for hot backup, differential/incremental backup, service, integrated scheduler for automatic backups, File Synchronization, Blu-Ray/DVD burning.

Price starts on a one-time payment with lifetime licenses, free updates, and technical support included. Uranium Backup offers a 21-days free trial and has a free version.

Uranium Backup - un must!

Con Uranium Backup abbiamo risolto notevoli problematiche rilevate con altri software e ad oggi lo installiamo con frequenza praticamente giornaliera presso i ns. clienti. I vantaggi ottenuti sono molteplici, dalla facilità di manutenzione/aggiornamento, alla semplicità d'uso - possibilità di spiegare brevemente al cliente il suo funzionamento in modo tale da poter personalizzare i task di backup in totale autonomia.

Pros:

Facilità di implementazione, di manutenzione e di aggiornamento. L'integrazione con i sistemi di lavoro risulta molto semplice, veloce ed efficace.

Cons:

La funzionalità "copia diretta" è un vero peccato che sia attivabile solamente nella versione a pagamento. Dopo ogni modifica / cambio di schermata è necessario cliccare su Applica per rendere efficaci le modifiche, lo trovo un po' scomodo, anche se comprendo bene la motivazione di questa scelta. La visione dei log, a volte, risulta essere abbastanza lenta, anche nel caricamento iniziale (al click del tab "Log" nel task selezionato). L'alert via mail è veramente scomodo impostarlo ogni volta tramite la configurazione dei parametri server mail (SMTP, autenticazione, ...), altri software ad esempio consentono solamente di impostare solo la/e mail sulla/e quale/i ricevere le varie notifiche (non c'è la necessità di impostare alcun parametro perchè vengono utilizzati dei mail server proprietari del fornitore di tale software).

Kind of ok, but you can do the same stuff easier with Acronis

Used it for a while and dropped it because i had the impression that acronis has a simplier user interface and you can do the same basic stuff with it

It's not bad really. Just the feel that such an important and basic need should be a bit more linear

Pros:

E' un software per pc e server molto facile da usare e completo anche nella sua versione gratuita. Interessanti le possibilità dei backup di macchine virtuali (ESXi e Hyper-V), dei più diffusi database (SQL Server, MySql etc) e la creazione di immagini di intere unità (Drive Image) oltre all'utilizzo di servizi di cloud storage. Il costo della versione a pagamento è davvero ottimo rispetto ad altri prodotti similari presenti sul mercato.

Cons:

Non è disponibile una versione per Linux; il processo di backup non è velocissimo.

Programma molto ben fatto

Il software fa il backup di ogni cosa, dai semplici file e cartelle a database a macchine virtuali. Ho avuto la necessità di reinstallare l'immagine di un server a cui si era rotto il disco, con 3 macchine virtuali create con l'hypervisor VMWare ESXi ed in appena una mattina, considerando la fuga a comprare i dischi nuovi e l'installazione fisica, ho ripristinato tutte e 3 le macchine virtuali, facilmente e senza alcun problema.

Cons:

Solo uno ma parliamo di parecchi anni fa: non permetteva di creare immagini delle macchine virtuali dell'ultima, del tempo, versione di VMWare ESXi ma al successivo aggiornamento si è risolto. Ma ripeto è stata una cosa di parecchi anni fa e ad oggi non si è mai ripresentato.

Il prodotto si configura facilmente e risulta adatto ad una ampia gamma di necessità di backup. Ottima possibilità di scelta sia di fonte che di destinazione dei backup. Noi lo usiamo per backuppare quotidianamente file e DB mysql su numerosi impianti, con destinazione cartelle remote su NAS

Cons:

Con il backup dei DB mysql non è possibile realizzarne una storicizzazione ma viene sovrascritto sempre un unico file
