About Loom

Loom is a video recording and screen sharing solution that allows teams to communicate with ease, without wasting hours of productivity from non-productive meetings. Loom includes fast recording, screen sharing, link sharing, video editing, emoji reactions and comments, access controls, and advanced reporting.

Users are able to use Loom to record their screen or a specific application in addition to live recording for any video session. Loom generates a custom URL for every video session, which allows video owners to share links to other users. Loom's editing tools allow users to edit, trim, and add CTAs and custom thumbnails. Video owners can use access controls to set privacy filters for videos to restrict visibility for users who don't have a password or URL link.

Loom is available for Apple mobile devices via an iOS app. Loom offers a free version with limited capabilities and also offers pricing plans for three different tiers, billed per user, per month.

Great Reliable screen recorder, but low free limits and an ever increasing paid version price.

Great product for ease of use and for just getting a quick video to a client, but it really has gotten pricey in the last few years.

Pros:
Loom has great resolution and it is extremely easy to use. It just works whenever you need to make client videos. Simpler than OBS studio to use and send to clients.
Cons:
The 5 minute max video recording limit on the free plan makes it much harder to tell others to use it. It has also now gone up for the free plan from $8 to $18 which really is almost unaffordable for just a quick 10 minute video. I am totally fine with the 25 recording max amount of videos, but the 5 minutes is really not usable so you are almost required to go to a paid plan.

Thanks, Loom!

I haven't had any issues, and find it very helpful in my role as an educator. I've used it since 2020, and when covid caused so much of my work to be online it was a great asset to my work!

Pros:
As an University adjunct instructor teaching online courses, I find Loom so helpful in conveying information to my students so easy. And allows for some of the "intricacies" of certain procedures (such as graphing or completing certain forms and procedures) to be demonstrated outside of our limited synchronous time together each week. I've also been able to edit some parts of a video, when student inquiries led me to realize some additional clarity was needed - without having to re-do the whole thing. I can edit right inside Loom. I'm also able to put videos in folders, so they can be organized by the course I teach. Though I can also share links to share from all folders with different groups. It's definitely a great value for the money it costs! I can set the links to different permissions, allowing for some confidentiality and secure sharing.
Cons:
I haven't found much to be a problem with Loom. I use it for the basics, and it can do so much more than I use it for. But it's easy and pretty intuitive!

Pros:
Its free FOREVER for educators. BUT its not an inferior product. Its an amazing product that we would probably pay for if it wasn't free.
Cons:
Out of all my tools on my Mac, I feel like this updates all the time. Not bad by any means, outside of a very slight inconvenience.

Nicer than Teams

5

Overall I must say that I really like Loom. Is convenient, is well integrated with Chrome and very simple to use. It also has a quick explanation tool for users when Loom is introducing new features, making the UX pleasant. The audio works very well, and when I had to create video presentation, I was very happy that I could even edit the speed of the audio.

Pros:
Loom is very simple to use. You can access it on the fly from your screen and start to quickly do a recording. I like the design features it has.
Cons:
I've used loom for video presentations several times and a couple of times for a teams presentation. In both cases, resolution of the avatar window is not the best; specially when using a background, my image flickers weirdly like if there was an aura.

Pros:
Loom is a fantastic asynchronous work tool. I like the interface, the AI-powered features, the easy sharing and editing options, and the embedding in email, Docs and various other tools.
Cons:
I feel like Loom is a bit aggressive when it comes to pushing its premium features. Those growth hacks, or whatever you call them, are visible everywhere and often interfere with the interface.

Great for a free tool

4

Overall, Loom has been a very useful tool for quick communication and explaining complex ideas visually. It saves time by reducing unnecessary meetings and helps keep remote teams connected. While it’s not meant for high-end video editing, it excels at what it’s designed for—fast, clear, and personal communication through short videos. I’d definitely recommend it for teams that collaborate remotely or want to improve internal communication efficiency.

Pros:
Loom makes it incredibly easy to record and share videos in seconds. The ability to capture both your screen and webcam is great for tutorials, walkthroughs, or quick updates. It’s intuitive, lightweight, and perfect for asynchronous communication—no need to schedule a meeting. I also like how easily it integrates with tools like Slack, Gmail, and Google Workspace, and how simple it is to share a video link with just one click.
Cons:
The free plan is pretty limited, with short video length caps and restricted storage. Editing options are also basic, so it’s not ideal if you need polished, professional video production. Occasionally, the app can glitch with audio or camera feeds, and since everything is stored in the cloud, privacy settings require attention when sharing sensitive content.

Being able to video record answers is an amazing feature and concept. I love using this to confirm meeting recordings and get simple updates from others outside of my time zone.
Cons:
There's not a lot of ability to edit the recordings as this feature is basic only. This also requires a strong internet connection to make sure it uploads correctly.
