Unit4 Financials (formerly Coda Financials) is a cloud-based accounting and financial management solution for public sectors, real estate, education, professional service, financial services and wholesale providers. It includes general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, fixed assets, budgeting, project accounting and spend management. The solution is multi-lingual and multi-currency.

Unit4 Financials enables organizations to automate financial processes and manage compliance as well as corporate governance. The solution uses real-time data to provide visibility into company’s financial position which further helps in decision making. It also offers revenue analysis, account reconciliation and statement processing.

Unit4 Financials enables businesses to integrate the solution with their existing system and allows them to view financial data through a web browser. It also allows users to create a personalized portal, system layout and dashboard to meet the specific requirements. Support is offered to all the customers through an online support portal.

A good universal accounting system

Pros:

We like the development of new and added features over the years. It is also a fairly easy system to teach someone how to use and users can explore things on their own.

Cons:

It can be hard to get reports out of the system sometimes.

Pros:

Unit 4 Financials gives Finance users and Administrators an edge on other systems based on features and system design . It is well written and designed and their support in A-1

Cons:

Some old features like maintaining Hierarchies need updating and may not be needed in today's design. Also the Client Server piece was removed in version 14 and many AP users prefer that to the web and it does have functionality that the web version does not . Terrible Customer service and Greed

The software itself when it is working is user friendly and quick to pick up. Queries are easily run and results easy to manipulate once exported

Cons:

There are so many! If you want automated payments you need to pay for a consultant to install that for you and pay for this as an additional. This comes standard with most software. The customer service is abysmal! We have received quotes that were miles off and then once you sign up, you are informed that the cost is twice as much and so we decided to cancel the contract as it was no longer affordable. This lead to retaliation I would say from Unit 4, they no longer assisting with our queries and demanding payment for almost every little task even installing their own licenses!! Getting a response is nearly impossible, delays of 2 months are normal!

Reasons for switching to Unit4 Financials by Coda

The service and cost of unit 4 was not worth the money!

Unit4 is great for travel expenses - especially the app!

Overall, I'm a fan on Unit4. Their upgrade changed things for my workload and allowed me to be more efficient, timely, and error-free. Their upload process changes how I work with my supervisor's requests for travel expenses.

Pros:

We use Unit4 Financials for our expense reporting. They got a significant upgrade a year or so ago which made dramatic improvements to their app and web functioning. It is now very easy to use the app to take pictures of your expenses and upload them. Since I do expenses for my supervisor who travels A TON, she is able to upload her receipts and add a description. Unless the receipts come in an email, my workload has been significantly cut down. She was sending them to me by mail previously, which made the time on her end and on my financial team longer. The app improvement led to ease across my organization.

Cons:

You have to have someone on your end who is really diligent and skilled in their background processes to run this product on the back end. We have been flooded with errors and downtime when updates come out or when new employees come on board. I have been using it for years so I understand how it works but new employees don't necessarily like the functionality and have seen easier to use products.

Pros:

I love the element structure, and the ability to receive imports from our Insurance system. It gives us the ability to sub-analyze and report in all the ways that are necessary and valuable to our company.

Cons:

We are currently stuck in Version 12. For the past couple of months, we have been attempting to upgrade to Version 14. However, that version of Unit 4 Financials is not compatible with the IBM system we are on. It is concerning that this wasn't thoroughly tested and resolved before release, and the amount of time it is taking to remedy the situation is disappointing.

Pros:

CODA Excel is great to use. You can create your own reports for virtually any purpose or format. We now do our journal entries at month-end using CODA Excel, and it has saved a good amount of time. Also, CODA is quick to respond to any issues or questions we may have.

Cons:

Most everything works great, but one thing that would be nice to have is the ability to see all error messages when posting a journal entry. We could have a 200 line entry full of errors, but we have to address each one line by line. Being able to see all errors at once would greatly improve productivity when dealing with these kinds of entries.

I like that this software is easy to use. It is best suited for a small business. You can filter out the pieces that you need quite easily.

Cons:

You do have to know accounting as everything is not just "ill in the blank, like you would on a tax program.

Pros:

It is fairly intuitive and easy to use. They genuinely seem to care about customer feedback recently, but the last few years, that seemed to go away.

Cons:

I believe that the product is getting very complicated, especially on the back end, and CODA support themselves are having a hard time keeping up with it, particularly in the web version. Also, CODA seems to be charging for everything that is extra outside of the core product.
